00:00Mary was buried with the same respect and admiration that she was showed while she was alive.
00:08And we all took time to say goodbye to her.
00:15All my life I was taught to treat my animals and people the way I'd want to be treated.
00:23So Wes and I caught Mary out of the bush.
00:26So it was Wes and I who dig the hole to bury her in her territory right next to her favourite nest site.
00:38We thought that would be the most fitting place for such a special girl.
00:43It doesn't get any harder, nor heart-wrenching, than this.
00:55Still, to this day, I can't believe we were able to dig a hole,
01:01seven people were able to walk in there and put her in there,
01:06and Agro did nothing.
01:09Just watched.
01:11I can't believe we were able to dig a hole,
01:14seven people were able to walk in there and put her in there,
01:19and Agro did nothing.
01:22Just watched.
01:28Good girl.
01:37And now for a burial ceremony from the heart.
01:42I need to share in this moment for our very special friend, Mary,
01:49who came to Australia Zoo when she was already over 100 years of age.
01:54She has been the greatest gift to crocodile conservation in this world,
02:01and it is with great pride and honour that I share this moment with you and her.
02:08Wes and I made a huge decision to bring her in here with her friends and her family.
02:15So every single time we come in to Agro's territory,
02:21we can share a space with this very important girl.
02:27She will continue to educate people about conservation,
02:31when I'm in that hole over there.
02:35And it's a very sad moment,
02:38a very sad moment,
02:42because I love her so much.
02:46I just love every single one of you,
02:49and I know you love our Mary.
02:57I want to grab a handful of dirt and throw it on,
02:59because it's the last time you're going to see it like this.
03:05Good luck, sweetheart.
03:21Thanks very much.
03:24You can be sure of one thing, we're all going to get on,
03:27and we're all going this way,
03:29and it's a beautiful thing.
03:31I'm just really, really sad, and I'm sorry about my tears,
03:34but it's just the way it is. We're here.
03:39We'll all miss Mary, but her legacy lives on.
03:44Thousands of baby crocodiles,
03:47some of them growing up at Australia Zoo,
03:50will continue to educate people
03:52about the importance and the plight of the saltwater crocodile.
04:09I am so sincerely sorry for being so sad,
04:15but anyone that has had a pet
04:18or an animal they've loved for years
04:21knows this pain.
