00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel. In this video, I will explain the ending of This Is Me Now.

00:04So, let's begin.

00:07Directed by Dave Myers, This Is Me Now is an ambitious project that could be said to

00:10be inspired by Jennifer Lopez's experiences with romantic relationships.

00:15Jennifer Lopez navigates through life and tries to understand if words like love and

00:19a soulmate actually exist in real life or if they are figments of the imagination of

00:23writers and philosophers.

00:25The character of Lopez wants to believe that there is one special person waiting for everyone

00:29in this life, but she gets disheartened after she faces multiple obstacles on her way, loses

00:33faith in the concept of love, and starts thinking that whatever she believed up until then was

00:37not true.

00:38So, let's find out if our protagonist is able to find somebody who makes her believe in

00:42love once again, please be aware the video contains spoilers, viewer discretion advised.

00:48This Is Me Now starts with Jennifer Lopez, who is referred to as the artist, narrating

00:52the story of Alita and Taru to her therapist.

00:55As the artist puts it, Alita and Taru were star-crossed lovers who, according to the

00:59famous Puerto Rican folktale, belonged to the Taino tribes.

01:02They knew that the world wouldn't let them be together, but the thought of leaving each

01:05other was too painful.

01:07Alita's father found out about her romance with the man of the enemy tribe, and he decided

01:11to get her married to the boy of his choice.

01:13Alita turned to God and asked them to help her cause.

01:17The gods turned her into a rose, and Taru, who was unaware of this development, became

01:21restless as he didn't know what to do or how to find his beloved partner.

01:25Taru, too, asked the gods for help, and that's when he was transformed into a hummingbird.

01:30So from that day on, it was believed that when a hummingbird flew from one flower to

01:34another, it was actually Taru searching for the love of his life.

01:38The artist told her therapist that she had been having these nightmares where, in a futuristic

01:42setup, she was trying to grow roses, but some mishap happened, and each and every flower

01:46got destroyed.

01:48She told the therapist that she couldn't get rid of those dreams, no matter what she

01:51did.

01:53Through a flashback sequence, we got to know that the artist loved somebody dearly, but

01:57probably she lost him in an accident or maybe made up that scenario as she started believing

02:00that not everyone found their soulmates in this lifetime.

02:04The part of the biker was played by Ben Affleck, and no matter how much the artist tried moving

02:08on with her life, it seemed as if the past pulled her into a deep and dark abyss, and

02:12she was forever stuck in a loop.

02:14So, it could be said that Jennifer Lopez, aka the artist, symbolically represented Alita,

02:19whereas Ben Affleck, aka Reckstone, was her Taru.

02:23The artist believed that they were meant to be with each other, but somehow, the forces

02:26of nature just didn't want their worlds to collide.

02:29What did the gods want for the artist?

02:32The Zodiacal Council looked from above, and though they wanted the best for the artist,

02:35they knew that she would have to make her own mistakes, learn from them, and then figure

02:39out a sustainable way for herself.

02:41The most fascinating thing about the film is the all-star Zodiacal Council, where each

02:45god represents one Zodiac sign.

02:47The Zodiacal Council consisted of popular real-life celebrities where each of them represented

02:51a particular Zodiac sign.

02:54They looked from above, and a lot of times, they didn't know what she was doing with

02:57her life.

02:59They put their trust in her, but in the end, she ended up getting married three times,

03:03but to her dismay, none of them worked out for her.

03:05The Zodiacal Council also lost its patience, and that's when they found a loophole in

03:09the laws they had to follow.

03:11They couldn't intervene themselves, but obviously, they could make the artist's friends ask

03:15her what she was up to and why she was doing what she did.

03:18Her friends believed that she was incapable of living alone, and she was too scared of

03:22the thoughts that came to her mind when she had nobody around.

03:26This was the artist's coping mechanism, as instead of dealing with her own emotions,

03:29she was running away from them, and probably, in the process, she lost herself.

03:34She didn't know what she was doing, and we saw in the latter half of This Is Me Now that

03:37her life was a mess.

03:40Around this time, the artist went to a support group called the Love Addicts Anonymous, where

03:44she expressed her feelings and told others what was going on inside her.

03:48Was the artist able to find love?

03:50During This Is Me Now's ending, we saw that the artist had another dream where she met

03:53her younger self.

03:55It was then that she got an epiphany of sorts, and she realized how negative her unfulfilled

03:59romantic encounters had left her from within.

04:02She had become a pessimistic person, and there was a lot of anger and frustration inside

04:06her.

04:07She got really mad when she got to know that Mike, one of her friends, was getting married,

04:11but then when she saw her younger self, all that anger subsided.

04:15Because of her multiple failed marriages, she started to entertain the idea that love

04:19only existed in folktales, and in the real world, there was no space for it.

04:23But after the encounter with her younger self, she realized how wrong she was.

04:28The artist realized that she had stopped loving herself in the process, and it was important

04:32to not take anything for granted in her life.

04:34She was glad that she had such dependable friends who had always been there for her,

04:38no matter what.

04:40The artist decided that she wouldn't give up on love and would continue her quest to

04:43find that one person with whom she could share her entire life.

04:46Finally, in the end, she spotted a hummingbird after a long time, and it led her to the man,

04:51Ben Affleck, of her dreams.

04:54It was the same man with whom she was riding at the beginning of the film, but this time,

04:57it felt like she wouldn't lose him.

04:59The artist finally found that one man with whom she could get old, with whom she could

05:03spend the rest of her life, and with whom she could once again experience how beautiful

05:06being in love could be.
