Transcript
00:00I know John Michael who was so excited at the launch he was running around with
00:03one leg in the air but do you feel the same way? I mean such a popular artist it
00:08should be a goer shouldn't it? Ah look I'm so excited about it the workshop was
00:12fabulous to do it was experimental it was exciting
00:16Tamsin was wonderful and there was a magic about it right from the beginning
00:21the music is wonderful it's very much a book show the songs advance the plot of
00:28the show yeah so it's very much a book show the songs aren't just stuck in
00:31there you know they really do have some numbers yourself I'll be singing my
00:34coloring book it'll be tweaked a bit yeah but I'll be singing my coloring
00:39book yeah well you've been a very busy mother haven't you? Because you were the
00:43mother of Johnny O'Keefe a friend of yours you're the mother of Dusty now
00:48what sort of a woman was she Dusty's mum? I must just tell you one funny little
00:51thing John Michael has I've been the mother in so many rock musicals now he
00:56calls me the Queen Mother of rock musicals that's his line yeah he used to
01:01be so there you go you've taken over the mantle was she a nice person? No well
01:08they had a bizarre kind of family life they actually used to throw food and
01:12crockery around a lot in the kitchen things like that just for fun yeah dad
01:18was a genial buffoon mum was showbiz mad she wasn't actually in show business but
01:24unfortunately she found it very hard to give Dusty love and support yeah she
01:30didn't think she had really any talent she would not admit that she could sing
01:33and she withheld a lot of love from Dusty and I think that's very much what
01:40made Dusty who she was when she grew up this great need for acceptance and love
01:45Mrs. O'Keefe conversely was a lovely mum wasn't she she she loved Johnny oh she
01:49adored Johnny she she didn't give the daughter-in-law a very good time at
01:53Thames and said you didn't give me a very good time in Shout you're not going
01:56to give me a very good time in Dusty yeah of course you would have known
02:01John's mum would you a little I didn't actually know I had to create Thelma
02:05just from my own imagination and from some things I read about her well this
02:10is how the new one is from the team who gave you the the wonderful Shout the
02:15Johnny O'Keefe story and I suppose that when you when you look back on Dusty
02:19Springfield's career there aren't too many female artists anyway with a number
02:23of number one hits and so forth and popularity worldwide considering that
02:28she basically started as part of a group didn't she yes she was enormously
02:31popular her music is still played on so many radio stations it and I think that
02:37to come into a theater and know all the songs yeah it's just fabulous we were
02:41fan I was a big fan yes I worked with Dusty obviously a few times in London
02:46because you would meet on promo shows or variety bills yeah and you'd share a
02:51dressing room or whatever she was very shy the quiet quiet person tiny little
02:56thing she was a tiny little thing do does the show by John Michael and the
03:01other writers does it touch upon her sexual life it does it does it's very
03:08subtly done beautifully done Denny Hines is playing the conglomerate sort of the
03:13character of her lover yes and it's it's touched on of course it has to be
03:18it's Dusty's life but it's beautifully done right I worked with her once with
03:23with Don Lane on a charity show at the Hilton in Melbourne I think I told the
03:27story the the other week maybe when Tamsin was in that at rehearsal she was
03:31quite charming very shy as you very shy yes and and we got to a nice
03:36conversation she'd you must meet my fiancee tonight I said I'd love to so
03:40that night she introduced me to Barbara you know and it was a bit of a shock
03:45first up because I was expecting Marilyn what's up no but everything was just
03:51cool yes absolutely yes you may have thought that Don and I were married too
03:55I don't know going back to your career it's interesting does Patsy Ann Noble
04:01seem like another person to you now very much so I feel a bit like a like a cat
04:08that's had nine lives you know I've had almost all of them I think yes it's
04:12another lifetime it's very hard for me to associate do you know that I was only
04:16on Australian television for under under two years I did Australian television
04:21but I yeah but you've got to admit though in those two years on Bandstand
04:25and the various other adult shows that you did it was a big time I mean if
04:30there was no bigger name in pop music than yourself back then well thank you
04:33but it is a long time ago and it was just under two years and the other
04:38careers I've had since then oh it's a bit bizarre for me to even look at her
04:42and go oh yes that's me as a kid yeah you know she was trying really hard but
04:47it was always going to be show business of course because she came from a
04:49wonderful show business family with your mum and Buster Noble of course wonderful
04:53comedian that's right did you ever want to do anything else yes I wanted to be a
04:57vet at one point did you yes I was always bringing home little injured
05:00animals and strays and yeah but when I found out that you had to not only
05:04finish school but go on to university how was it yeah well as I say it's gonna
05:09be a wonderful show in Thames and she worked on GMA with us and did a dusty
05:14number and she's fabulous well she's ever I mean she's a good singer apart
05:18from any of the others but she is a wonderful actress too and I was telling
05:21a couple people from the producers the show the producers which they hadn't
05:24seen her do the the bit on GMA it's from within too isn't it I mean it's she's
05:29using her acting ability oh yes not just a mime type job she's a wonderful
05:33actress who can sing marvelously and she's going to be fantastic as Dusty
05:37well the thing is book early for a dusty it opens at the State Theatre in in
05:42January my tour I guess and I play four roles oh I forgot to tell you that oh I
05:50play a busty bimbo who compares the San Remo Song Festival and only speaks
05:55Italian and she's lovely and wonderful and very yes I play society columnist
06:02yeah gossip columnist and I play a doctor so I'm a lady of many parts in
06:08this show. Well four that we know of and as John Michael Howes would say it's huge to us to do the whole four
06:15you'll kill a minute it's lovely seeing you Trisha. It's lovely to see you too Bill, thanks again.
06:19Cathy sends her love by the way. Trisha Noble one of the stars together with with Denny and a whole range of people naturally in
06:27including the lady herself Tamsyn Carroll it should be a ripper of a show
