Parents in Darlaston have today celebrated the sight of a brand new Zebra Crossing which has been put in place on Willenhall Road, across from Old Church CE Primary School, where last year two children were struck by a car.

00:00My name's Natasha Maison, I'm from Darlington, I'm 34. All my children have been out of church.
00:07Last October there was two small children that was crossing the road and a car didn't stop and unfortunately ran them over.
00:15Thankfully the Bob made a full recovery but a lot of children and parents seen it and it was absolutely horrendous.
00:23It scared us all and I was like there's something that's got to be done to get the kids to and from school safe.
00:29So a lot of the parents, headteacher, all put their heads together and we put a petition up to try and get some sort of a crossing.
00:37It took quite a while for it to go through but we finally got there after nearly 12 months of October.
00:45So I've spoken to the parents of the children who got run over a few times just to see how they are.
00:53Thankfully the young children are quite resilient and seem to bounce straight back.
00:58They do still struggle to cross roads, they get very scared and very nervous crossing.
01:03When I found out that there was actually going to do a crossing it was absolutely amazing.
01:07I was like oh my god, all the hard work, all the parents are putting and the teachers and everything has really paid off.
01:13To see, obviously the children are just happier going to school, not having to worry about is this car going to be zooming through, is the car going to stop, no they have to stop.
01:23And to see, when I came past on Monday, I drove down the street and to see that they've actually put it in and they've put the railings in to stop the cars crossing over the footpath, it was amazing.
01:34I'm so happy to see it.
01:36The whole of the community and the teachers, the parents, everybody pulled together and it was just nice to see all the parents.
01:42You don't really speak to them on the school ones and they're like, can I sign your petition, can I help in any way?
01:48It was nice to see everybody pull together and finally got a result that everybody needed.
