Rural Ukrainians stay put despite daily shelling
Residents of small rural villages outside the big cities in Ukraine continue to face daily shelling but choose not to be evacuated, insisting they want to stay and live and work there while they can, despite their ongoing trauma.

00:00It's actually quite difficult to get outside of Sumy, to try to get to some of the smaller villages in the remote areas.
00:09It's difficult because there are obviously checkpoints and there is an exclusion zone on the Ukrainian side.
00:16But also, even though the Ukrainian army have moved in to one section of the Kursk area,
00:24it's actually quite hard to get to other areas because they are still within shelling and bombing range of Russian forces.
00:34We've just been to one village where people were telling us that there is daily shelling, there is constant shelling.
00:42Nothing that will make the news, but still, for people who live in that village, it's still being targeted.
00:49And yet, surprisingly, people choose not to be evacuated for the time being.
00:56They still say that they want to stay and live and work there while they can.
01:02It is, for many people, as we saw in an evacuation centre in Sumy earlier, it's traumatic for them to leave their homes, leave their land, leave their work.
01:14And they have no idea when they will be able to return, if they have a home to return to.
01:20And that's the dilemma facing so many people in these small rural villages, outside the big towns and cities in northern Ukraine.
01:30Do they stay and face the consequences, perhaps?
01:34Or do they actually leave for the comparative safety of other towns and cities in Ukraine?
