Boomerang cardiff has been helping people around the city for years, and they have a hand in so many different areas, its hard to keep up. They help the homeless get back into housing, have period poverty projects, community outreach, plan trips for poorer families, and even have plans to expand in the near future.

00:00Obviously, the charity predominantly started off as a homeless charity, helping people
00:06on the streets. There's a lot of resources out there now, so then we moved on to the
00:11homeless to homes, so anyone moving from their hostel into their home. So that's predominantly
00:16the main thing that we do, and all the furniture side. But then as the charity's grown, the
00:21community aspects has come in, and we do loads of activities in the centre. We do the peer
00:25poverty campaign with sanitary products for schools.
00:28Emma-Jane says that the charity is like one big family, and she loves being a part of
00:32the organisation. She says the boomerang puts a note of emphasis on what families need from
00:38the service, and they'll always listen to those needs.
00:41Oh, I love my job. Everyone that knows me knows I live and breathe boomerang. But yeah,
00:46it's great, because when we have an activity, when we're chatting to the parents who are
00:49having a couple of other kids who are doing boxing, they sometimes tell us their stresses,
00:53their worries, that they can't afford uniform. We can step in and say, you know, we've got
00:57no uniform here, come and have a look. Or, you know, my little boy's bed's just broken,
01:01I don't know what I'm going to do. We've got a furniture place just across there that we
01:05can support them with. Or they've broken their telly, or their washing machine's broken.
01:08So when we're speaking to families who use our centre for the activity side of it, we
01:14can do so much more for those families.
01:16Despite what they already do in the community, boomerang have big plans for the future, and
01:20have already begun the plans for a new building on the site made entirely of shipping containers,
01:26which will house workshops, a cafe and a community area for people to use to their benefit.
01:32So yeah, we're going to be getting lots of like life skills. We'll be having loads of
01:36workshops to teach people basic carpentry skills, plumbing, electrical. We'll have a
01:42cafe there. We'll have a couple of shops there where people can sell from other charities
01:46to make themselves sustainable. There'll be loads of mindful classes, there'll be some
01:51IT sessions, do some CVs and workshops. There's going to be a lot of things going on.
