00:00Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers, lovely to
00:06speak to Lucy Noble, Artistic Director at AEG, about a fabulous sounding project. Blade
00:12Runner is going to be performed in, well, screened, but performed in concert with the
00:17music live in front of you, and you'll be able to see the musicians, and it's going
00:21to be at the Brighton Centre on September 23rd. Lucy, what is it that the music live
00:26before your very eyes, and before your very ears, adds to it, do you think?
00:31I think, well, firstly, you're seeing a film that hopefully, if you're coming along to
00:36see, love this film already, but you're seeing a film that you know well, but in a different
00:41way, because the music, as you say, will be played there, live in front of you, and the
00:46musicians are completely visible on the stage, below a huge screen, you know, the screens
00:52are used in some of the biggest, kind of, cinematic screens in Europe, so it's just
00:57a whole new experience, a whole new way of watching the film, in a spectacular way, really.
01:04Absolutely, and tell me a bit more about the music.
01:07Well, the music is written by Vangelis, so a great kind of 80s vibe score, and there's
01:16about 40 musicians in the band, so smaller than other films that have been done in this
01:21kind of context before, and there are synthesizers, of course, because it's that kind of 80s score,
01:27and then all the string instruments are electric string instruments, so to just recreate,
01:34obviously, the original sound, so, and they will, as I say, will be there for everyone
01:40to see on stage.
01:41And you've done this live music experience for lots of other films, but you're saying
01:44this one's slightly different insofar with, you've got a smaller orchestra, it's going
01:49to be much more intimate, isn't it?
01:51Yeah, I think, yeah, it is definitely more intimate, because it's smaller, and because
01:55there's fewer instruments, you'll be able to hear the music in a different way, when
02:00you have an orchestra that can be very loud, you know, you can have a 90-strong orchestra,
02:04but it's very intimate, and different style of music, so kind of a first in this genre,
02:10so I think it would be something really different and really appealing to the audience that
02:16love that kind of music from the 80s, and Van Gellis scores, and the film fans.
02:22Fantastic, and the film itself, it's not bad, is it?
02:26No, lots of exciting moments.
02:29Have you always been a fan of that film?
02:32I am a fan of the film, I'm a fan of Harrison Ford as well, so quite excited to see it all
02:39come together, so, you know, really looking forward to it personally as well.
02:44Fantastic, so that's Blade Runner in concert, Brighton Centre,
02:48September the 23rd. Lucy, lovely to speak to you, thank you.
