Merrick Plater shares his experience after hitting a goat on his motorcycle.

00:00Didn't even see it. Yeah. It was just a flash. So the goat just came out of nowhere? Yeah.

00:07I know it came from my right-hand side. Yeah. I didn't see it. It was smack in front of me.

00:13I think it was just the impact. Didn't see it again. Yeah. Remember the impact. Tunneling down the road.

00:19I remember thinking, when's this going to stop? So how far do you think you went?

00:2420 plus metres. Judged by the slide marks. Yeah. It was on the road. Yeah.

00:32Because I stopped. The bike stopped a couple of metres past me.

00:35I was just accelerating and it was just bang. Just went instantly down.

00:40Yeah. And so was it just a feral goat? I'm assuming so. Yeah. Yeah. I remember it was big and fat.

00:46What colour was it? Brown and white. Yeah, right.

01:05Where else was he? Quite a lot of damage. And the saddest part about it, he's been working on it for the last couple of months.

01:13Here. All down here. Here. Ouch. That's sharp. And here. Yeah.

01:25Because this belonged to his friend who passed at our house in January.

01:30So he's been working on it for months. Cleaning it up and getting new parts and painting it and everything like that.

01:37Goes out on Saturday for the first time and this happens. So, it wasn't good.

01:43Really need to do something about these goats. Yeah. Because they're just running amok.

01:47Too many people are now breeding them because they can make money out of them.

01:51Nobody's doing anything about their fences because the goats will just go straight through a normal fence.

01:56And they're just breeding out of control. Ages ago, we used to go out and shoot them because they were considered feral pests.

02:04And now people can sell them to the abattoirs and even rent them to farmers to eat all their weeds.

02:10So, I know some people who've got 60 to 100 goats on their properties. They're just letting them to go.

02:18And nobody's doing anything to keep them secure.
