00:00Live from the Twin Peak Studios, Sports Radio 610 presents In The Loop with John Lopez and Reggie Attitula.
00:10All the talk, is done.
00:14B. Scott from High Run Club. B. Scott from High Run Club. B. Scott from High Run Club. B. Scott from High Run Club. B. Scott from High Run Club.
00:22That's right. It's time for B. Scott's Thoughts here in The Loop, Sports Radio 610.
00:28John Lopez, Figgy Fig, I'm Reggie with Attitula.
00:30Now how you spellin' that?
00:31That?
00:32Yeah.
00:33We can spell it with proper spelling.
00:36I didn't even realize that.
00:37I saw what...
00:38My bad, dog.
00:39I picked up what...
00:40Don't want to get you in trouble with your label.
00:42I wasn't trying to do none of that.
00:43No, I'm good. I'm good. I just picked up what Lopez was putting down there, but we can do common spelling on B. Scott's Thoughts.
00:49Look, if you look...
00:50There's nothing wrong with common spelling.
00:52You can look at the run sheet, and I wrote it as just like the synonym for ideas, right? B. Scott's Thoughts.
00:59What Lopez is talking about is a different segment, and possibly even a different show.
01:04That's 11 p.m. as opposed to 11 a.m. here on Sports Radio 610.
01:08But no, B. Scott, our Texans insider, one of the best dudes to talk about all of these things with, and so I'm very happy, and we're so pleased that we have the opportunity to do this every week.
01:18But I kind of want to dig into some of the things that you're thinking about right now, and it seems like with it being game week, it's starting to be.
01:25What are some of the things we can learn from week one?
01:27Yeah, so immediately for me, it's going to be like this is a big test for the Texans.
01:33Not just like the excitement and the anticipation and, you know, the over and under on their win total and all that,
01:39but just this game specifically I think is super important and really just a big test to find out where this Texans team is in certain areas.
01:47And I really like some of the things that Lowe talked about in that opening segment, five things that they need to get better at,
01:52and I think you can tie that into what's important about this week.
01:56The thing that I would say concerns me the most right now is that Anthony Richardson-Jonathan Taylor combination in the backfield,
02:06obviously the dynamic sort of element that they bring to the table as far as running the football.
02:14But then also I think that Anthony Richardson has a lot of feast or famine, boom or bust potential,
02:20and there is a tendency to focus a lot on the negative with Anthony Richardson and the inaccuracies and all of the pitfalls in his game,
02:30which I think are important to point out, but he's got a little game too.
02:34Like he's got some things that he can actually do to beat you both with his legs and with his arms.
02:40He's got some special ability.
02:41So I am really concerned with how they deal with that combination both in the run game,
02:46because look, they're missing one of, I think, one of their biggest pieces on the defensive line,
02:52and Danico Autry for the first several games with that suspension.
02:55And obviously Christian Harris is somebody who you would depend on to be able to defend sideline to sideline,
03:02which I think is something you're going to have to do with an Anthony Richardson,
03:04the same way you had to do with Lamar Jackson in the playoffs or twice last year when they played the Ravens.
03:09Like you need those elements.
03:11And so I am starting to be concerned about them not having those two specific players
03:15that I think are important to what they need to do defensively,
03:18and especially against a team that has these elements to it.
03:21Look, all the things that we're going to be talking about this week about this game,
03:24that's the most important one, how they roll with Anthony Richardson,
03:27but especially with Jonathan Taylor and how the Texans can cover that,
03:32because you're right on Anthony Richardson.
03:35Nobody knows yet, but he's a weapon.
03:39I mean, he is an absolute weapon when things are going right.
03:43So, no, I think that is the story, Christian Harris, Danico Autry versus those two dudes.
03:48Yeah, I think they could obviously use those two players against this team.
03:53And with Anthony Richardson, it's just a matter of he's got to put it all together one way or another.
03:59Like if he is a superstar or if he's a flat-out bust or somewhere in between,
04:03we don't know because we've only got the four games and some preseason action.
04:08Like literally less than 30 games between high school, college, and pro
04:12to decide whether or not this guy is good.
04:15It's hard to say one way or another without having the evidence out there.
04:18So I think this is going to be another interesting data point.
04:21Yeah, and look, D'Amico Ryans, I was very interested in the last day or two
04:26when it comes to Texans, D'Amico Ryans and then Casario,
04:29both kind of talked about Anthony Richardson.
04:31And I think it's interesting because while, like you said,
04:34a lot of folks focus on the negative and what he can't do,
04:37it's very evident that other teams have to focus on what is the possibility.
04:41And so D'Amico was asked about Anthony Richardson yesterday in his availability,
04:45and I found what he said a little bit interesting.
04:47It's been a really great matchup for us to start off the year.
04:50Anthony Richardson, as he showed with the limited amount of snaps that he's had,
04:54he's shown he can be a dynamic playmaker, running the ball, also throwing the football.
04:59So he's a playmaker, right? You have to account for him every snap
05:03because of his dynamic ability to run the football.
05:06So he poses a really good challenge for us defensively,
05:10and we definitely have our hands full.
05:14Definitely have their hands full.
05:15And you notice he used the word dynamic a whole bunch.
05:17Like, I think that's what makes this tough, right?
05:19I've often said that he's the type of player that can get you fired,
05:22and it's because you have to go in for that dynamic ability,
05:25which is an ability to run the football to where the numbers game is tough on a defense.
05:29Typically, you're guarding 11 on 10, which makes it so that this is a little bit more manageable.
05:33You're 11 on 11, in the fullest sense of the word,
05:36and then you pair that with Shane Steichen and his ability with RPOs and play calling
05:41to make it so that he puts defenders in a bind.
05:44I think this is going to be a real interesting test, as you mentioned,
05:47for the spine of the defense, particularly Henry Toto,
05:49who's going to probably get some real snaps in playing time.
05:53How disciplined are you now?
05:54How good are your eyes?
05:55And when you come up and tackle, are you going to make sure to bring down who is a solid body?
05:59It's a couple of dudes who have really solid bodies in Anthony Richardson and Jonathan Taylor.
06:03Yeah, I'm glad you mentioned the RPO,
06:05because I thought Seth Payne did a real good job of breaking down not only some of the nuances
06:11in Anthony Richardson's game as a passer,
06:13like both the things that would concern you or make you doubt him,
06:19and also the things that would scare the bleep out of you
06:21if you are an opponent or the fan of an opposing team.
06:24He gives you a pretty good sense for both of those things,
06:27but also this simple fact that Anthony Richardson is not a project when it comes to the RPO game.
06:33He's obviously a dynamic athlete and can burn you in that way,
06:38but also very savvy with it.
06:41That's the one thing that there doesn't need to be much of a learning curve for him
06:45going from what he's been doing before in college and the limited snaps last year.
06:50He is well-versed in the RPO and obviously well-equipped to beat you in that.
06:55And not only that, but an integral part of it figures to be Jonathan Taylor.
06:59Well, that's what I'm saying.
07:00Now you've got the combination.
07:02Which one of these guys do you want to match up against?
07:04And I'm not talking old school option.
07:06You might see him in one or two of those plays,
07:09because who are you going to pick your poison kind of thing,
07:11but I'm talking about even just in the RPO.
07:13Between the two of them and that offensive line,
07:15neither of them is really an ideal or favorable matchup for you.
07:19I think that's going to be a fun thing to watch,
07:23and you definitely highlighted it to start in the right way.
07:26This would be a challenge regardless,
07:28but without one of your preferred linebackers,
07:33your preferred defensive tackle, Denico Autry,
07:36it's going to be really incumbent upon Mario Edwards,
07:39incumbent upon To'o To'o,
07:40and the other guys that are going to filter in in those places
07:43to make sure that that middle of the field is well-contained and played properly.
07:47And also, I would just point out,
07:49these are also questions that we've had, like position groups,
07:52that we've had questions about for the entire offseason.
07:56Now we feel good about Christian Harris.
07:58Did Denico Autry sign, and I think everybody would give that a favorable mark.
08:03But then when we talk about the depth,
08:05and this is something I've been hitting on for a long time,
08:07when you talk about the depth of the team, specifically the defense,
08:10okay, you lose those guys.
08:12You lose those guys, and now what?
08:13Now what does it look like?
08:15This has been an ongoing question for me in the offseason and the preseason,
08:19and it's one that's going to rear its head, I think, in week one.
08:22How do they respond?
08:23I'm not saying it's the end of the world, but I do want to see how it works out.
08:26Sure, and I think that that's an interesting thing, kind of balance the strike.
08:30I know that earlier in the segment that you mentioned earlier,
08:33the start of the show at 10 a.m.,
08:35we brought up Lopez's five things that the Texans need to do better
08:38if they want to be that team that, ultimately,
08:40a lot of people believe them to be able to be.
08:43And I think someone on the text line took that as,
08:45oh, well, you know, all the optimism's gone.
08:47No, the optimism is still there,
08:49but this is getting into the nitty-gritty of it is these are the things
08:52that you need to see in order for that optimism to be validated.
08:56This is more intrigue than pessimism, right?
08:59It's good to great.
09:01You were good.
09:02You surprised a lot of people.
09:03Now you're talking about being great.
09:04You've got to get better at these things.
09:06Yeah, and to your, like,
09:08the first thing that you talked about, Lopez,
09:10about getting better at taking the ball away.
09:12Well, as dynamic as Anthony Richardson is,
09:15we've seen that they will give you some gifts,
09:19or there is potential there to force a fumble.
09:23You know, he can be careless with the ball at times.
09:25He'll throw it right to you.
09:26Because of some of his superhuman abilities,
09:28sometimes he might believe in it too much or miscalculate it, if you will.
09:33So forcing fumbles is a possibility.
09:35Intercepting it is a possibility.
09:37Seth talked about this as well, being on the same page with the receivers.
09:41Yes.
09:42Where are they in terms of that?
09:43Have they made a jump from,
09:45look like we're in the preseason going up against Bengals backups
09:48and it didn't look great,
09:49versus going up against most of pretty much the Texans first-stringers,
09:53say, for Christian Harris?
09:54Yeah.
09:55It's going to be good.
09:56It's going to be good stuff.
09:57Yeah, and along those lines, just to wrap this up,
10:01I think you asked an interesting question
10:03in one of your thoughts here,
10:05and it has to do with one of the rookies
10:07who got his number changed on this defense.
10:09Yeah, so I want to see the Kamari Lassiter,
10:13A.D. Mitchell matchup.
10:15Like, I feel like there's a game within the game,
10:17kind of like the game within the game
10:19that D'Amico Ryans didn't want to speak of
10:21between him and Shane Steichen.
10:22We know that's there.
10:23We know that's true.
10:24Oh, yeah.
10:25I think that there is one, maybe even to a greater level,
10:27to a greater degree,
10:28with these two guys being former teammates at Georgia,
10:30winning national titles together,
10:32and then also, like, I wonder who, you know,
10:35Mo City Mitch.
10:36You know, like, hey, look, man, I know you Mo City Mitch,
10:38but everybody from the town going to be rooting
10:40for Kamari Lassiter for your former teammate
10:43who is now representing the hometown team,
10:45and you, the hometown kid,
10:47is playing for the division rival up there
10:49behind enemy lines, dog.
10:51So I'm interested to see how that goes,
10:53if they get to match up against each other,
10:55the rookies, and what that looks like.
10:57Plus, I think that that could possibly serve,
10:59and y'all tell me if I'm wild in here,
11:01if I'm stretching here.
11:03I think that that could serve as a little bit of
11:05a easier entry point into the starting outside
11:09cornerback role that Kamari Lassiter is going to have
11:11in the entirety of the season.
11:12100%. Familiarity, you played him,
11:14you know his game, absolutely.
11:17Yeah, no, I love it.
11:19And with Kamari Lassiter, I think another thing was
11:21we didn't feel like we saw a whole bunch,
11:24for whatever reason, in the preseason.
11:26Possibly it was just because he was doing his job,
11:28but for whatever reason, we remember Daniel Jones
11:30was targeting Derrick Stingley.
11:32You know what I mean?
11:33We want to see more, like we're confident
11:35in Kamari Lassiter, but we want to see more of him,
11:38and I think that A.D. Mitchell is going to be
11:40a big part of their game plan.
11:42Obviously, they have Michael Pittman Jr. as well,
11:43so we'll see how that shakes.
11:45Okay, B. Scott's thoughts.
11:46T-H-O-U-G-H-T-S.
11:49Common spelling, baby. Common spelling.
11:51Y'all don't say nothing about my man.
11:52That's a good, wholesome family man, Brandon Scott.
11:55Yeah, it is.
11:56Need y'all to understand that.
