On the Trail of Bigfoot: The Ancients follows Seth Breedlove and company deep into the Smoky Mountains as well as the director’s family tree, prompting surprising revelations on both fronts. Through eyewitness interviews, on the ground exploration, and Breedlove’s personal journey, viewers are taken on the trail of the Ancients like never before. Members of the Breedlove clan, long-time locals, provide deep historical and cultural insight, while expert researchers such as Micah Hanks, Jakeli Swimmer, Adam Davies, and Jeff Carpenter bring a wealth of knowledge to the Ancients roster.

00:00I talked to someone the other day and I said, what are some of the things in your family
00:05history that was passed down to you whistling?
00:10We never go in the woods and whistle.
00:12I wasn't allowed to.
00:14And then she said, we closed, always closed our window blinds because we didn't want the
00:21boogeyman or to come in.
00:25So there are some local native traditions that connect with the modern idea of a relict
00:33hominoid or Sasquatch.
00:35But we do have a lot of our elders that believe Bigfoot, he's our protector.
00:39I think if you're talking about what the Smokies would be most known for, it would be the disappearances.
00:45When I went through the report database, there was an inordinate amount of sightings in this
00:50area compared to almost any other area in Appalachia.
00:54We drove up, I stopped because there were two of them.
00:58I always felt like it was a mom and a kid.
01:02We were driving by, she goes, hey, did you see that?
01:06I go, what?
01:07And again, I'm going to say it's Bigfoot, jumped from the embankment up to the road
01:11and stood there and started watching us.
01:13He was absolutely massive.
01:16I felt very intimidated by that one.
01:20If you were going to take somebody, I think the easiest explanation would be that you're hungry.
