00:00Hi, welcome back to my channel, in this video, I will explain the ending of Wild Things,
00:04so let's begin.
00:06Helmed by John McNaughton, Wild Things is a crime mystery thriller film that's a roller-coaster
00:10ride of twists and turns whose outcome many may not be able to predict.
00:14McNaughton's previous directorial endeavors have included the likes of crime comedy feature
00:18Mad Dog and Glory in 1993 and his 1986 critically acclaimed biographical crime drama Henry,
00:24Portrait of a Serial Killer.
00:26Over the years, Wild Things has gained cult classic status after initially being undermined
00:30by critics.
00:32It came out during a time when sex crime thrillers were at a pinnacle.
00:36Due to the film's popularity and its many plot twists, viewers may have several unanswered
00:40questions, here is everything you need to know about the same, just to let you know
00:43this video will contain spoilers.
00:45The film follows Sam Lombardo, a guidance counselor at a local Florida Blue Bay Area
00:50school.
00:51In a surprising turn of events, being a well-respected educator in the institution, two students
00:55he regularly interacts with, Kelly Van Ryan and Susie Toler, accuse him of rape.
01:00Assigned to the case is Detective Ray Duquette, who gradually figures out there is something
01:04fishy about the whole situation.
01:06However, as the story unfolds, numerous underlying intentions and treacherous schemes come to
01:11light, involving almost everyone in the proceedings.
01:14The narrative twists and turns, revealing convoluted and unpredictable developments
01:18that one wouldn't expect.
01:21What was Sam's plan to get the money?
01:23As Sam gets accused of rape by Kelly first and then Susie, he seemingly is at his lowest
01:27point, being criticized and threatened for actions he claims he has not done.
01:31He approaches Ken Bowden, a public defender, but the odds are against them as Ken admits
01:35they are up against highly paid seasoned lawyers on Van Ryan's side.
01:39Additionally, Susie's last-minute testimony has further added fire to the flame.
01:44The film here showcases Ken's ingenuity as he figures out that Susie had been in touch
01:48with Sam even after he raped her.
01:50He presents this information during the court hearing when Susie takes the oath with the
01:54logic that no rape victim would get back in contact with the person who raped them.
01:59Accusing her of lying, Ken reveals to the court that Susie was previously sentenced
02:02to six months in a correctional facility for possession of narcotics.
02:06He explains to Susie that if she's not telling the truth, the officials will take her back
02:10into custody.
02:12Susie gets flustered and fearful of the consequences as she can no longer hide the truth.
02:16She admits that the rape allegations were all a ruse planned by Kelly to get back at
02:20Sam and her mother.
02:22The court's reactions erupt into chaos at this new revelation as Kelly gets agitated
02:26and throws a glass in the direction of Susie but is quickly apprehended by the police and
02:30the court.
02:31To Sam's relief, Ken is able to manage the unthinkable as the court dismisses the case
02:35altogether.
02:36A settlement of $8.5 million, which Kelly's mother, Sandra, must now pay, is now agreed
02:42upon between the plaintiff and the defendant.
02:44The settlement is made, which pays off Ken's charges and makes Sam's miserable position
02:48into one of overnight wealth.
02:50However, in a grand twist, it is revealed that Kelly and Susie were both in it for the
02:54money.
02:55They had planned with Sam to create a scenario where Sandra would be forced to pay a large
02:59settlement amount.
03:01In a scene where Kelly and Susie meet up with Sam at a local motel, the trio's real intentions
03:05are revealed.
03:07They were to lie low until the money came into Sam's bank account, and then he would
03:10split the money equally between the two girls.
03:13Kelly, who hates her mother, is to receive a large inheritance from her grandfather but
03:17will only receive it after the passing of her mother.
03:20The fake rape allegation is the only way she can get the money without her mother's death.
03:25Susie's intentions are yet to be revealed, but in a final twist, they are made known.
03:29Sam is neck deep in debt and needs the money to pay off his mortgage, or he will have nowhere
03:33to live.
03:34At this time, Detective Ray Duquette is still not convinced about the court's decisions
03:38and begins doing some digging of his own.
03:41He theorizes that Kelly and Susie have teamed up with Sam in some way to split the money
03:45amongst themselves but doesn't have the proof.
03:48In separate scenes, he confronts both Susie and Kelly, letting each of them know what
03:51he thinks.
03:53Kelly does not budge, but Susie begins to panic.
03:56She goes to Kelly's house, telling her that the detective is on to them.
04:00At this moment, Kelly tries to comfort Susie and calls Sam to tell him about the situation.
04:05In the bushes, Duquette is recording the incident with a camera.
04:09The next day, Duquette presents the footage to his superior, who warns Duquette not to
04:13meddle in a closed case.
04:15In the following sequence, Kelly takes Susie out for drinks, and then they meet Sam at
04:19a hidden beach at night.
04:21Sam uses this opportunity to kill overly intoxicated Susie and cover up the scene by dumping her
04:26body in the marshes.
04:27The next day, Susie is reported missing, and Duquette, who is hot on their trail, obtains
04:32information from one of Sam's students about the location of the hidden beach.
04:36At the beach, he finds traces of blood and teeth and immediately calls for backup.
04:41He sends the blood samples to be traced, and it turns out to be Susie's.
04:45Convinced that Sam killed Susie, he sends his partner, Gloria Perez, to spy on Sam in
04:50his motel room.
04:52Sam catches her and shares some crucial information about Kelly and Susie.
04:56She calls Duquette, who is stationed outside Kelly's house, about the information, but
05:00Duquette is convinced that Sam has something to do with it and barges into Kelly's house.
05:05Kelly, who is armed with a gun, shoots Duquette in self-defense, but Duquette fires back,
05:10killing the girl.
05:11The next scene shows Duquette giving his testimony about the incident, claiming that he went
05:15there to protect Kelly.
05:17Duquette is dismissed from the police force, and his future retirement pension is withdrawn.
05:22During his court hearing, the police commissioner reveals the evidence that led to the conclusion
05:26of Kelly killing Susie.
05:28According to the evidence, Susie's blood was also found in Kelly's car, indicating that
05:32she killed Susie, unbeknownst to the actual truth.
05:35Following these events, Sam travels out of the country to finally enjoy his settlement
05:39money.
05:40Here, we witness another twist when Duquette walks out of Sam's shower and reveals that
05:44he, too, was in on the plan.
05:46Sam confronts Duquette, telling him that he shouldn't have killed Kelly, but Duquette
05:50convinces him that now all loose ends are cut off.
05:53Sam explains to Duquette, who is eagerly awaiting his share of the money and wants to be as
05:57far away from Sam as possible, that the bank will take two working days to make the transfer.
06:02Duquette is now forced to stay with Sam for a couple of days, and the two then head out
06:06on a boat ride to enjoy the sunny weather.
06:08Here, Sam's real intentions are displayed.
06:11He tries to kill Duquette by knocking him off the boat.
06:15When that doesn't work, he tries beating him up, only to be finally shot at with a harpoon
06:18gun by Susie, who emerges from below deck in another shocking twist.
06:23Duquette is then knocked off the boat and drowns to death.
06:26Susie and Sam are left on the boat as they celebrate their exploits over a drink.
06:31Susie hands one to Sam and as he starts drinking it, he realizes the drink has been poisoned.
06:36Choking and losing control of himself, Susie knocks Sam off the boat to his demise.
06:41In the final scene, we understand that although Sam had implemented the plan, Susie was the
06:45mastermind of the entire thing.
06:47The scene is a callback to a previous event when Susie approaches Sam with incriminating
06:51evidence of his sexual affair with Kelly.
06:54Susie presents the pictures to him, confronting him about how he was unavailable when she
06:58needed him the most.
07:00The film here implies that it had actually all begun with Susie.
07:03She had planned to use the fabricated incidents to get to the settlement money and then gradually
07:07get rid of all her accomplices.
07:09In the end, she succeeded.
07:12What happens to Susie?
07:14At the end of the film, Susie is revealed to be the mastermind behind the entire scheme,
07:18involving Kelly, Duquette, and Sam, all in their own capacities.
07:22While Sam was taking care of the operations, Susie pulled the strings and told him what
07:26to do.
07:27In the final sequence, we see Susie finally attain freedom as she sails away.
07:32The film doesn't confirm what happens to Susie, but it is implied that since she is now legally
07:35dead in Florida, she can freely move out elsewhere, which could include another country.
07:40While moving aboard will be her ultimate intention, Susie would need to forge relevant legal documents
07:45to do so.
07:46However, Susie is described as a girl who could do anything if she put her mind to it.
07:51Considering she planned this entire escapade just so she could get money and get rid of
07:54the people she disliked the most, forging documents wouldn't be as difficult for her
07:58as one would imagine.
08:00In all probability, Susie would have moved out of the country under a new identity, restarting
08:04her life elsewhere.
08:06Even if she didn't, she could move to a remote location inside the US and live her life however
08:10she felt fit.
08:11Will the truth ever come to light?
08:13Sam, Susie, Kelly, and later Duquette outfox the police time and again, and the authorities
08:18have little to no idea of what really happened.
08:21While the film depicts Duquette as the one who was somewhat on their trail, he, too,
08:25turns out to be linked to their scheme.
08:27At this point, it is fairly clear that the police will not be able to piece together
08:31this puzzle as Kelly, Duquette, and finally, Sam have all been murdered.
08:35With all accomplices dead, Susie will be the sole keeper of their secret.
08:39Still, things may turn out differently.
08:42If Susie gets caught leaving the country under a different alias, the case will be reopened,
08:46and the search for Sam and Duquette will also begin.
08:49It would take a lot of digging, but their bodies would eventually wash up on the shore
08:52unless consumed by marine wildlife.
08:55In another scenario, Duquette's partner and friend, Gloria Perez, could also be looking
08:59for him when she realizes that he's missing.
09:02It isn't likely that she would just give up on her friend after his termination from the
09:05police department.
09:07Additionally, if Sam has relatives, friends, or loved ones, they, too, would ask the police
09:12about his whereabouts.
09:14Any one of these scenarios could reinstate a follow-up case in search of Sam and Duquette,
09:18whose bodies, if found, would be in relatively close proximity to each other, arousing more
09:22interest in the investigation.
09:25This would lead back to Susie's body, which was never found, hinting that Susie may still
09:28be alive.
09:30Although the film doesn't confirm it, it is assumed that Susie cuts herself and forcefully
09:34removes two of her teeth to fake her death.
09:36The cuts would provide the same blood that was found on the beach and in Kelly's car.
09:41The teeth, if removed forcefully, would have tool marks visible to the naked eye, indicating
09:45that it was done on purpose.
09:47This in itself should have been enough for the investigators to ascertain that Susie
09:50is, in fact, missing and not dead.
09:54It would take them several years to put the pieces together, but there is a slim possibility
09:57that the authorities eventually figure out what really happened to Susie, Sam, Kelly,
10:02and Duquette.
10:03Until then, Susie has nothing to fear and is free to live however she wants.
10:08That's all for now folks, I would appreciate it if you could give the video a super thanks
