Philippine fugitive ex-mayor Alice Guo arrives in Manila after deportation from Indonesia

A fugitive former mayor accused of ties to Chinese criminal syndicates and money-laundering to the tune of more than 100 million pesos ($1.8 million), arrived in Manila on Sept. 6, 2024 after being caught by authorities and deported from Indonesia. During a press briefing upon her arrival, Alice Guo said she has 'received death threats' and was asking for help from authorities.
Guo, also known as Chinese national Guo Hua Ping, is wanted by the Philippine Senate for refusing to appear before a congressional investigation into the alleged criminal ties. Removed from office as mayor of Bamban town in the province of Tarlac, Guo fled the country in July, traveling on her Philippine passport to neighboring Malaysia and Singapore, before heading to Indonesia in August, according to the National Bureau of Investigation.
