00:00Hello from the North Coast 500. I made it to Tung late last night and just on a
00:07campsite here and it's very busy and this morning I heard two guys, Ash and
00:13Dale, talking about how they're walking the NC500 for a charity. I've not met
00:20anyone walking the route so far since I set off about two weeks ago from
00:25Inverness so yeah naturally I was just quite curious to go and see how they're
00:29finding it and more importantly just to hear about the charities that they're
00:34walking for. So yeah here's just a little interview that I did with them this
00:37morning in Tung. Hi so my name's Ash. I'm Dale. We're walking the entire North
00:45Coast 500. We're doing it for a charity called Little Lady Locks and we hope to
00:50do it in 13 days. So how much are you walking a day then roughly? So on average it's a
00:56marathon and a half a day so around 60 kilometres is the average. I think our
01:03biggest day that we've got planned is 77 kilometres. And how are you feeling? Yeah so okay.
01:09Yesterday and the day before were really bad so we had to go to A&E on Thursday
01:15on Wednesday. Dale's got a fractured foot. I've got inflamed tendons which
01:22prevented me from bending my ankle but we feel better today and we're hoping we
01:26can get some mileage in. So back to the injuries, I mean how was it just walking with those? Yeah so I think we first noticed my foot on Tuesday so it was
01:39probably about three or four hours into the day and it just started throbbing on the
01:43outside of my foot so took a lot of codeine that day to get through the day.
01:46Finished in Jono Groats. You having issues with your shin? Yes I had on Monday so it was day two. I felt my bottom of my
01:55shin hurting. I think we've done 80 kilometres on it and we got to a point
01:59on Tuesday when I just couldn't walk so A&E advised us not to not to carry on
02:05but we decided not to listen. Manage the pain. So we're strapped up, we're
02:11medicated up, bandaged up. I'm just gonna see what we can do. I think we feel good today though.
02:17We feel good today. Positive. I think we'll get some good distance. And have you got people kind of alongside with you
02:22that are helping just with the supplies? Yes so we've got my partner Kelly and Sophie who works with us, they're our support vehicle so
02:31basically they're packing our tent, pitching the tent, bringing food, supplies
02:37and on call. They could do with them being a bit quicker sometimes but they're doing a good job.
02:45Yeah so a mixture of camping, B&Bs, obviously a hostel last night with an amazing
02:51setting so it's been alright. Obviously a bit of trepidation about the camping at first but it's been quite good. I love it. I enjoyed it.
02:59I love camping. I never thought I would like it but it's amazing.
03:03And how have you found the North Coast 500 so far? It's been stunning.
03:07Yes so from obviously Inverness to John O'Groats was great we thought wow but
03:13then yesterday getting here was just like the views were brilliant and we
03:18can't wait to get to the West Coast because we've heard that's even better.
03:21So how many miles in total is it? It's 515 miles in total. We've got 407 left to do.
03:30407 left to do. Yeah we've also obviously with our injuries we're around I think
03:35we're 100 kilometres or 170 kilometres behind so we've got on our Instagram
03:40page a lot of people are doing like their own runs and walks so we've asked
03:44them to make up the mileage we missed and we're gonna donate a pound for every
03:49kilometre that we get to the charity. Can you tell me a little bit more about the charity and how much you've raised so far?
03:56Yes so the charity is Little Lady Locks. They're a charity that provide hair care systems for children under 18 so
04:03whether they're suffering from alopecia, cancer or any form of hair loss.
04:08So they're not funded by the government. So so far I mean we set out to raise ┬г5,150 pounds hence the mission 500 and the 515 miles.
04:22We've hit our target so we're hoping to get to ten grand. Our next target is going to be seven and a half.
04:28So it's an amazing charity and yeah it's just I think for us it was just being able to do it for
04:37children just putting confidence back into a child when they you know are down on confidence.
04:43Especially for a young girl. Hair is so important to a young girl isn't it?
04:46So when you're battling something like that just to be able to give any kind of confidence and joy back to them is just a big thing isn't it?
04:53I think just got a live update on the total so at the minute we're on ┬г5,393.
04:58┬г5,393 yes.
05:00It's going well. It's good.
