00:29Life was made up by people who are no smarter than you.
00:33If you decide to close out this video,
00:34I hope that single statement stays with you
00:37because once you truly understand it,
00:39it will shape your every single decision in life.
00:42Five years ago, I was unhappy, I was sick,
00:46and I thought this is how life had to be.
00:48The crazy thing is, I was just about ready to accept it,
00:51to let life pass by me as I sat there,
00:54alone and isolated in my little cubicle.
00:56This moment in my life was the worst and best thing
00:59that ever happened to me.
01:01It taught me the most powerful life lesson
01:03that no school and no university ever could.
01:06This is not a sponsored video,
01:08and I'm not gonna try to sell you something.
01:10This is the video that I needed in my darkest days
01:13when I was working a nine-to-five
01:14that took the joy out of my day-to-day.
01:16And my only goal today is to share that lesson
01:18and how you can do the same too.
01:20But first, I need to share a piece of my story
01:23that, frankly, I've avoided sharing in the past.
01:26In 2015, I started working
01:27with one of the big four accounting firms,
01:29and for the first time in my life,
01:31I experienced my own form of depression.
01:34I went from being a highly driven and healthy young adult
01:37to seeing all of that change
01:38in a matter of just a few short months.
01:40I lost my drive, my ambition,
01:42to the point where getting out of bed every day
01:44became a battle.
01:45I saw the health that I had taken for granted
01:47my whole life take a complete 180 on me.
01:50I started experiencing short-term memory loss,
01:53random muscle spasms, and a twitchy eye.
01:56These weird conditions and many more
01:58all started coming on at the same time.
02:00And so, naturally, I had to look for answers.
02:03After a few quick Google searches,
02:04I was convinced that I had early symptoms of MS,
02:08which is another life lesson.
02:10Don't try to diagnose yourself.
02:12So, naturally, I did what everyone would do.
02:14I booked myself a doctor's appointment.
02:16But after a couple sessions of blood and urine samples,
02:19it became very apparent that, on paper,
02:22I was a healthy young adult.
02:23I was strangely devastated by these findings.
02:26I wanted to be told that, oh, your this levels are off,
02:29or you're just not eating enough of that,
02:31or even take these meds,
02:33it'll make all your problems go away.
02:35Instead, my doctor told me
02:36he believed it was all stress-related.
02:38And to be honest, when I heard that,
02:40I felt like that was just a feel-good BS.
02:42I felt deep down inside I had MS.
02:44Sorry, doc.
02:45From losing a loved one, relationship struggles,
02:48or exam season, I've had my fair share of normal stresses.
02:52And in all these times,
02:53it had never impacted my physical health.
02:56So I left the doctor's office,
02:58and I changed absolutely nothing
03:00because I didn't really believe it,
03:02but also I feared the idea of change.
03:05I knew mentally I wasn't in the best place
03:07since starting that new job,
03:08but I feared giving up that prestigious title
03:11and the future opportunities that I would be abandoning.
03:14I feared what my parents and friends would say.
03:16And I especially feared leaving my job only to fail.
03:20And so, I stayed put.
03:22A few weeks went by, and I continued going to work,
03:25feeling miserable, and seeing new health problems spring up.
03:29It became my new normal, and it sucked.
03:31After three months grinding away at the firm
03:33and seeing all my dreams go by the wayside,
03:36I realized in that moment I had to make a decision.
03:39Either go and find a new job
03:40that's more in line with who I was as a person,
03:43or what I really wanted to do,
03:45take the time to wholeheartedly pursue
03:47my own passions and projects.
03:49The problem was, I was broke,
03:51and I didn't know how to make money with my passions,
03:53and I barely even knew what my passions were at the time.
03:56I also didn't have anyone in my life
03:58who encouraged me to do something so bold.
04:01In fact, my parents, my friends,
04:03encouraged me to stay at the firm,
04:04telling me things like, don't worry, it will get better.
04:07Soon you'll be promoted,
04:08and you'll be able to do what you love.
04:10These are the responses we've all heard
04:12to make the most of a shitty situation.
04:14But I asked myself one question
04:16that gave me sudden clarity.
04:17Does anyone in this office have a life
04:19that I aspire to live?
04:22For that matter, does anybody in a nine-to-five lifestyle
04:24have a life that I aspire to live?
04:26And the answer was simply no.
04:29This is when my life changed.
04:31I still had no money, a ton of fear and mental hurdles,
04:34no concrete plans,
04:36but the decision had never become so easy.
04:38On November 15th, 2015, I handed in my resignation.
04:42The moment that I quit,
04:44it was like the flick of a light switch.
04:46My smile came back, my motivation was at an all-time high,
04:51and my health problems disappeared like magic.
04:54Turns out, my doctor was right.
04:55I truly underestimated the importance of mental health.
04:59After handing in my resignation, I called my parents.
05:02They were shocked and a little disappointed.
05:04I called my landlord, and I was super lucky
05:06because he only charged me a small premium
05:08for canceling my contract early.
05:10And my third phone call was to my buddy, Bram,
05:13who at the time was working as a general contractor.
05:15And just like that, he was able to get me
05:18a flexible part-time job that enabled me to set my own hours
05:21and make 17 Canadian dollars an hour.
05:23Almost the following day, I was back to work.
05:26From Monday to Wednesday, I would work 12-hour days,
05:28helping set up a Best Buy as a general laborer.
05:31And from Thursday to Sunday,
05:33that's where the real work happened,
05:34building the early Lost LeBlanc business.
05:37I would spend morning to night
05:38teaching myself how to edit,
05:40researching my upcoming travel plans,
05:42and I even began pitching my humble little channel
05:45to camera brands in hopes they would buy into my story
05:48and loan me the camera gear I could never afford to buy.
05:51I truly discovered my secret power,
05:54and that was determination fueled by passion.
05:56In just 30 days, I was able to buy my one-way ticket
05:59from Vancouver to Bangkok, Thailand.
06:02I was able to take my bank account
06:03from being nearly empty to having 2,500 US on reserve.
06:07And I had landed an agreement with Panasonic,
06:10and they sent me a GH4 and a lens
06:13with basically no strings attached.
06:15And my parents even started to get on board
06:17as they saw how hard I was working
06:19and that this was truly my passion.
06:21But most of all, I had never been happier in my life.
06:25After just three months on the road,
06:26I had my first break-even month,
06:28meaning that my expenses were completely paid off
06:31by my revenue.
06:32In year one, I was able to make a modest profit
06:34of $10,000 by keeping my costs low,
06:37knocking on hostile doors, cold-calling tour operators,
06:40and finding any other way that I could
06:42to make money and save money.
06:44In year number three,
06:45I had my first six-figure annual income.
06:48And in year four, I had achieved
06:50over $1 million in revenue.
06:52And after five years, I went from creating travel content
06:56to now teaching well over 1,000 other creators
06:59how to become their own bosses.
07:01Every door I've ever wanted open has swung open.
07:05Am I just lucky?
07:06Well, here's the reason I really made this video.
07:09Odds are really good you can relate to where I was.
07:12Working a job that you don't love
07:14and knowing that there's so much more to life,
07:16but being pressured into sticking to the status quo.
07:19This is how most people will live their entire lives.
07:22The greatest discovery of my 27 years on this planet
07:25is something that I am so fortunate
07:27to have learned early on in life.
07:29It's something that I wasn't taught,
07:31but it is the number one thing
07:32that I will teach to my children
07:34and anyone I get to know closely.
07:36And that is what you believe is what you will achieve.
07:39In other words, your state of mind
07:41determines your finish line.
07:43Yeah, I spent like 15 minutes coming up with that.
07:45Simply put, we define our own limits by what we believe.
07:49The problem is most of us, including myself,
07:52are not taught how capable we really are.
07:56And so we abandon our dreams
07:57and set boundaries that lack ambition.
07:59We are told to be successful, we have to go to school,
08:02find a stable nine to five, and then in time, retire.
08:05But the crazy thing is,
08:06we're not told to find a career we actually love.
08:09We're told that nine out of 10 businesses fail,
08:11but nobody tells us what it takes to be that one out of 10.
08:15We're told that it takes luck to be successful,
08:17but nobody talks about the fact
08:19that you can make your own luck.
08:20Now, the good news.
08:22We all have that ability to train and unlock a mindset
08:26that makes us truly unstoppable.
08:28A mindset that's so powerful
08:30that failure becomes completely out of the equation.
08:33Now, one thing I need to say
08:34is there's absolutely nothing wrong with working nine to five.
08:37The problem is compromise.
08:39Before building out Lost LeBlanc,
08:41I had maybe worked seven or eight jobs.
08:43And every single time,
08:44it felt like I was sacrificing a piece of me
08:47just to be able to make a bit of money
08:49so that I could get by.
08:50On Mondays, I was constantly thinking about Saturday.
08:53In November, as things got rainy and gloomy,
08:55I was dreaming what I would do with my two weeks off in June.
08:59Constantly looking to the future
09:00and never living in the moment
09:01only exasperated my unhappiness.
09:04My early jobs made me think
09:05that all careers would be like this.
09:07And so I just had to find the one that sucked the least.
09:11But a shocking discovery that I had
09:13was that it was possible to have just as much,
09:15if not even more joy in my days at work
09:18than on my days off.
09:20I want that for you.
09:21You're going to be spending majority of your best years
09:24working in that career, in that field.
09:27So why not make sure it's something that you love?
09:30Something that brings you joy and happiness
09:32and something you would do
09:33even if nobody was paying you to do it.
09:35Your dream career is out there,
09:37but nobody's gonna give it to you.
09:39You have to go out there and take it for yourself.
09:42And to do that, you're going to need an unstoppable mindset.
09:45Being unstoppable means learning to push forward
09:48even when you're dealt a shitty hand.
09:49It means pressing onward
09:51even when the world tells you to turn back.
09:53And it means holding onto your dreams
09:55even when you start to question yourself.
09:58Identifying these passions is crucial
09:59because when you do what you love,
10:01you'll be able to withstand the upcoming challenges
10:03and they're bound to happen.
10:04Today, you might not even know what those passions are.
10:07I didn't know what mine were
10:08until I actually went out there and did them.
10:10So in all honesty, you might start off
10:11by reaching for the wrong thing.
10:13But just remember, that is part of the journey.
10:15Ups and downs and even sometimes taking wrong turns.
10:18But as long as you are moving,
10:20eventually you will be moving in the right direction.
10:22Secondly, you need to reach for a goal that scares you.
10:25If it doesn't scare you,
10:26it's because you're not pushing hard enough.
10:28Your goal is not yet ambitious enough.
10:31Fear is the number one indicator
10:33that what you're reaching for is great.
10:35So lean into the fear
10:36and remember what's waiting on the other side.
10:39And lastly, you must protect your mindset.
10:42So be careful who you spend your time with
10:44and be even more careful who you take your advice from.
10:47Mentors are great,
10:49but information is only as good as the source.
10:51Ask yourself if the advice you seek
10:53is coming from a person who has already achieved
10:56what it is you seek to achieve yourself.
10:58Now, you might be asking yourself, what if I fail?
11:02I remember I used to get asked all the time,
11:04Christian, what are you gonna do
11:06when your channel stops getting watched?
11:08As if that was my only lifeline.
11:10When I started my journey, I had no film experience.
11:13But today, I get contacted to shoot
11:15six-figure campaigns and commercials.
11:17When I first started, I had no idea how e-commerce worked.
11:20But today, I have a thriving content creator academy
11:24and I sell travel guides online
11:25and I could easily make a living
11:27teaching others how to do the same.
11:28When I started, I had no connections
11:31and no idea what I was doing.
11:33But today, I have more promising business ideas
11:35than I know what to do with.
11:37If Lost LeBlanc becomes irrelevant
11:39or if it had never even been relevant in the first place,
11:42I would still have so many avenues
11:44to turn this so-called failure into a wild success.
11:48Your thing might not be travel or content creation,
11:51but whether you wanna open up that yoga studio
11:54or take your personal training online,
11:56embrace the journey.
11:57It might not take you exactly where you think it will,
12:00but that's only because your end destination
12:02will be even greater than you imagined.
12:04Do not feel sentenced to a nine-to-five that you don't want.
12:07It is impossible to fail
12:09when you wholeheartedly commit to the unknown.
12:11And lastly, this is directed at you.
12:14Do not wait for the perfect moment
12:16because the perfect moment simply doesn't exist.
12:19The only thing we have guaranteed is today, make it count.
12:23Life was made up by people who are no smarter than you and I
12:26so let's write our own rules.
