00:00If we bring everything we have available to us together, whether that's our talent, our
00:05resources, our energies, can we get even more for the communities that we collectively serve?
00:11And I think this is just a really tangible, brilliant example of what I know has been
00:19a lot of years in the making, most of which I wasn't here for, so I feel slightly fraudulent
00:25having the opportunity to welcome you and thank you, but it's great.
00:30I'm with Theresa, Education Lead in Hartlepool Hospital. This young lady looks very authentic,
00:36she looks very real.
00:37She actually is a real person, Frank. She's modelled from a little girl called Gwen, so
00:44we've named her Gwen after Gwen. She's what's called a low-fidelity model, so we don't
00:54actually do a lot with her, but we can create situations and scenarios that Gwen is in.
01:03She does so many different things and she's so lifelike that she even has little bitten
01:11fingernails because real Gwen actually bites her fingernails, and we're really, really
01:17lucky to have her. And when you come in here sometimes, because she's so lifelike, you
01:24find yourself holding her hand and stroking her.
01:27That's amazing.
01:28Because, yeah, I mean, look at her. She's perfect.
01:32So we get different reactions from her. The majority of people absolutely love her, but
01:37the frightening element of it is actually a good thing for us because it means she does
01:43actually...
01:44Respond.
01:45Yeah, people respond to her in all sorts of different ways. We can actually move her so
01:51she doesn't have to be in here, but we can put her in different scenarios. And what we
01:57do is we have different scenarios that we run from inside the control room where we
02:05can change the surroundings and the atmosphere to absolutely do that, to simulate things
02:13for medical students, but also our role is going to be the community.
02:19How pleased are you to see us here today?
02:22Yeah, really pleased that we're here today. You know, it's been five years in the making
02:26since the Town Deal Board got together. A lot of hard work in that time of getting the
02:31long projects down to a short list of projects and business cases in, so pretty much five
02:35years later on, here we are. And this was the vision for Ward 10 here at the hospital, and
02:40I'm so proud that we've managed to get that investment in to get the work done.
02:43And what do you think of the facilities?
02:45Absolutely superb. They're state-of-the-art. So here we are in Hartlepool, they're hugging
02:49the northeast coast, and we've got a literally world-class facility, state-of-the-art facility
02:53to make sure that the education and skills needs of the health and social care sector
02:57can be met.
02:58And how will the college use this facility?
03:01Yeah, our college and the sixth form college, there'll be opportunities for the students
03:04to come here and obviously use the facility in terms of some of the technology. We've
03:07got state-of-the-art mannequins and state-of-the-art simulators, so that will just enhance the
03:11opportunities for College of FE students.
