00:00You
00:15Hi kids, welcome to veggie town, I'm Bob the tomato and this is
00:21Larry
00:22Larry, where are you? Here? I am Bob
00:26What's with the outfit? I'm ready to learn how to take a vacation
00:32Vacation you can't go on vacation. We need to introduce these kids to veggie town. I
00:38Thought you said we were gonna go to vacation school to learn how to take a vacation
00:43This isn't vacation school. This is where kids come to have fun while learning about God
00:50That sounds a lot like vacation Bible school Bob. It is vacation Bible school Larry. Oh
00:56It's time for
01:05That's right Bob big idea productions is back with an all-new adventure in vacation Bible school veggie town values for the family
01:14building God's citizens generation to generation
01:17I'm Scottie Mae one of the creative team members for this year's program
01:22Family relationships are the foundation for promoting positive values for generations to come and veggie town values for the family creates an
01:30Environment that encourages kids to develop great relationships in their families as well as in the entire family of God
01:37What better way to strengthen families and pass on a strong faith year after year? Oh, is that right?
01:44Best part of veggie town for kids is a lot of the activities the crafts the games
01:50They really like to keep moving
01:51There's always something to do the kids are always engaged in the lesson good information that they can apply to their life
01:56But they have a lot of fun activities all these kids loved it
01:59They enjoyed it tremendously and God's Word is weaved in there
02:02so all the family values are in there they learn it together and they're teaching each other and
02:07They get to have fun doing it
02:10following Colossians 3 12 through 14
02:13Participants explore meaningful values like how to be compassionate kind
02:18Humble loving forgiving gentle and patient
02:22Hey, Bob, if we're going to VBS, well, I still need to wear a suntan lotion. It makes me smell like a coconut
02:30Bob Bob Bob is already on his way to veggie town Larry. So you better run along and try to catch up
02:38Kids love seeing their favorite characters and veggie tale videos
02:42These fun and lovable friends start each day with an all-new puppet greeting to prepare them for veggie town values for the family
02:49this year everyone gathers together in family-friendly sites like a home a
02:55restaurant a beach a church and a retirement center
03:00Each of these sites help participants discover a meaningful value that builds God's citizens from generation to generation
03:07What's really exciting about this year's veggie town values is an additional learning track offered inside the kid along with the first one
03:14It's an all-new approach to enhance the traditional VBS learning experience
03:19Veggie family spans the generations to involve people of all ages in this program
03:26parents kids
03:27seniors teens
03:29Singles everyone is invited to take part, you know
03:32Sometimes differences can be good if we just take the time to get to know each other
03:37That means you actually get 20 great Bible sessions in one kit
03:42Now you're probably wondering how veggie town values works
03:46Everyone gathers together in veggie town square where they're celebrating family week kids and adults alike
03:52They're fun skits greetings from Bob and Larry great stories of faith and they sing veggie town song
04:02And
04:16Then participants are sent off to one of the five new sites this year
04:25Site leaders only prepare one lesson which they repeat to the neighborhood of family clusters that are rotating through that site
04:33Means that site leaders only prepare one lesson, which they repeat throughout the week
04:42This helps prevent burnout and keeps leaders fresh and
04:46Enthusiastic for the entire program and they get better and better at the session each time they do it
04:51This is going to be easier than we thought
04:54These leaders present interactive Bible stories and review activities. Plus they offer crafts games
05:02Snacks and life application opportunities that strengthen the message and help everyone personalize the veggie town value from that site
05:11Now, let's take a look at some of the crafts
05:14Each craft has been designed to correlate with a family value that is being taught
05:19there are at least three different crafts for the leaders to choose from this gives you a great deal of
05:25Flexibility depending upon your budget the needs of your group and your specific goals for craft time
05:32Every craft is made from easy-to-find materials and many crafts are interactive and that helps encourage learning after the children go home
05:41Whether you offer a traditional approach to doing DBS or you want to incorporate a new learning experience that crosses generations
05:49Veggie town values for the family provides an opportunity for everyone
05:54This learning experience for people of all ages can be done during the summer or as a monthly family learning event all year long
06:03This year veggie town offers a section called veggie directors. It's found inside veggie kids
06:09This informative leaders section is designed specifically for the directors use
06:15Included in these materials are separate sections for leaders of small groups
06:19crafts games and snacks
06:22You know, sometimes I think I could eat a whole bus. Yeah. Well, sometimes I think I could eat a whole spaceship. Oh, yeah
06:34We get the point and
06:36Accompanying the directors materials is a new CD-ROM filled with clipart and other promotional materials
06:42So that leaders will have everything they need right at their fingertips
06:46Everything you could possibly need to offer a successful and meaningful Bible learning experience comes in one complete kit
06:53Really? Oh, I don't need a spaceship. No, you don't
06:58Inside this kit you'll find reproducible leaders guides for children of all ages in veggie tots a book designed for preschool
07:06children and non readers
07:08veggie kids a book crafted for children at the elementary level from kindergarten through grade 5
07:14And veggie teens a book put together for youth in middle school and senior high
07:21There is a colorful site poster that you can hang at each of the five veggie town locations
07:26And there are also five promotional posters that will help you invite others to enjoy a great experience, too
07:32What we've mentioned are only just some of the wonderful things yet to come
07:40Plus you'll find a new leaders guide to help you build a learning experience for people of all ages in veggie family
07:47You'll also find three great tools in this year's kit
07:50The first tool is the greeting soundtrack from Bob and Larry
07:54These entertaining clips will help you to produce a puppet show that will make the kids laugh and feel welcome as they begin each day
08:01The next tool is a video called welcome to veggie town
08:05This video takes you on a tour of veggie town in two different churches and provides training and instructions for all your leaders in veggie
08:13Town whether you're offering a traditional program or a learning experience for participants of all ages
08:21And of course there's veggie stories the video filled with your favorite veggie tales
08:26Condensed to 12 to 16 minute segments that will help enforce the godly values taught in the veggie town values for the family VBS
08:34Veggie town values for the family is a fun new innovative approach to doing vacation Bible school
08:40It involves participants in the program each step of the way the materials are Bible based
08:47relevant and meaningful
08:49Plus they're easy to use and understandable for the leaders, too
08:52But best of all leaders will find the materials for veggie town values for the family
08:57Flexible and adaptable to any setting that means that you can offer a quality learning experience for people of all ages
09:05In any learning environment that you choose
09:09There's something for everyone when it comes to veggie town
09:28Oh
09:48Vote for me
09:49Vote for me my favorite veggie tale character need. I say more Bob the tomato yes
09:56Junior's fair I guess because he always makes me laugh from the Greek. That's better goes
10:03He's a real thinker vote for me
10:05Oh, you'll be sorry cuz I'll put mustard in your oatmeal make noises like a sick cat while you try to sleep
10:10Forget the song Larry well
10:12It's to the peas Philippe and John because I like their accent, and they're really fun
10:17It was nice to meet you now go away. Yeah
10:22My favorite character is Larry boy
10:26Ouch it's Alfred
10:29What do you think that funny?
10:44I think we're forgetting something Larry Larry Larry Larry because he's goofy
10:56Oh
11:03Hey enough talk
11:05Let's go out on location where Cindy Kenny
11:08Managing editor of this innovative program is showing a new leader two different approaches to presenting veggie town. Hi Cindy
11:16Hi, Scotty. We're here at Christ Community Church in st. Charles, Illinois
11:20They've pulled out all the stops here as they put together the program with all sorts of fun decorations
11:26Aren't you guys excited about this year's program? I know I sure am I'm here today with Kathy can she's a new leader in Christian
11:33Education and she wants to figure out what kind of VBS to do this year and how to do it
11:37I'm so excited to be here, and I love all the decorations. They're great, but I do have a few questions
11:44I'm not really sure where to get started. Could you maybe tell me a little bit about the program, okay?
11:48Well veggie town values for the family is all about families
11:52So kids are going to learn ten different values that they can use every day in their lives in their families at home
11:58And also with the whole family of God veggie town values is based on Colossians 3 12 to 14
12:05Which is filled with ten godly values that are essential for everyday use
12:10Kids and families can focus on things like patience love
12:14compassion kindness
12:16Humility gentleness holiness forgiveness and being a friend
12:21Each of these godly values is taught in veggie town a fun and familiar place where participants can laugh and learn together at the same
12:29Time maybe Bob and Larry can tell us a little bit about veggie town, too
12:34Imagine if you will another dimension a dimension of cucumber tomatoes and cabbage a dimension where nothing is as it seems
12:42You are entering the veggie zone Larry will you stop that oh?
12:46That's right Larry. You're giving the kids the wrong idea about veggie town
12:51This is a place full of fun a place where we talk about following God in our everyday lives
12:57That's right Bob looks like they're getting ready to get started here at Christ community. We'll get all your questions answered. I think so
13:12Higher than the heavens above
13:14It's the glory of this wonderful love
13:16I'm lost in the mystery of your everlasting love
13:18Your everlasting love
13:20Each day kids of all ages gather together to see brand-new puppet greetings with Bob and Larry and they'll meet fun people like aunt Ruth who will be the master of ceremonies guiding everyone through the program
13:50Well hello boys and girls in veggie town
13:52You are a loud group of children. I like you
14:05Aunt Ruth will welcome the kids to veggie town talk about the family values and encourage kids to dig into each day's activities
14:12Veggie tale fans will remember her from several silly songs with Larry
14:17Larry tell me about your childhood
14:20On the day I got my tooth I had to kiss my great-aunt Ruth. She had a beard and it felt weird
14:25My my she had a beard and it felt weird
14:27She had a beard
14:29Oh
14:31That is just flour
14:33And once little Larry came into the kitchen
14:35While I was mixing up some cookies
14:37And he saw I had flour on my face
14:39He thought I had a beard
14:41She sounds like a great lady
14:43And I love that beard she's got
14:45Oh yeah
14:47That's kind of flour because she loves to bake
14:49Bread cookies all sorts of fun things
14:51Ah so the mystery has been solved then
14:53Can I stay?
14:55I don't know kids what do you think can she stay?
14:57YAY
14:59You may be wondering where we get all these great ideas
15:03Everything you need can be found right in this guide called Veggie Kids
15:07Veggie Kids comes with 10 complete sessions for elementary children
15:11It's also filled with instructions for directors
15:15And has sections designed for leaders of crafts, games, snacks and small groups
15:19If you choose to offer those separately
15:23Veggie Kids has lots of ideas for decorations
15:25Along with some great clip art
15:27Plus the directors materials
15:29Provide leaders with information for how to get started
15:31How to manage the program
15:33How to involve volunteers
15:35And how to adapt the program to your needs
15:39The options in the Veggie Town curriculum are awesome
15:41There are just a lot of different things to pick from
15:43I found that the options were really limitless
15:45I mean you could kind of mix and match
15:47So many of the games and the crafts and everything
15:49They've got a nice layout of things to do
15:51And how to work through all of the questions
15:53And things that come up
15:55It's just very well laid out
15:57There's plenty to do
15:59What's nice about it is you can use anything that you want out of it
16:01And so whatever you're most comfortable using
16:03That's what you used
16:05Just phenomenal there's just a ton of them
16:07You can go to a biblical application
16:09You can go to a craft
16:11You can go to a game
16:13And it really kept the kids very interested and excited about what was going on
16:15In fact the room was like buzzing
16:17Big Idea Productions is committed to helping your staff work efficiently
16:19And providing leaders with resources
16:21That will make the best use of their time
16:23If I'm not mistaken you're quite busy too
16:25Because of this
16:27The program has been designed to divide your entire group
16:29Into five neighborhoods
16:31Each neighborhood rotates through Veggie Town
16:33Visiting just one site per day
16:35Then the neighborhoods are split up
16:37Into five different neighborhoods
16:39Each neighborhood rotates through Veggie Town
16:41Visiting just one site per day
16:43Then the neighborhoods rotate to a new site
16:45Upon their next visit to Veggie Town
16:47So kids don't have to worry
16:49They get to see it all
16:51I'll come back tomorrow
16:53Because of the emphasis on family this year
16:55Each neighborhood is compiled of family clusters
16:57Which are small groups of six to ten participants
16:59Family clusters remain the same
17:01During the entire program
17:03So everyone can build relationships
17:05And be mentored by someone who holds these values
17:07Alright
17:09Kristen
17:11Now Maureen
17:13What is your responsibility here in Veggie Town
17:15I'm a family cluster leader
17:17A family cluster leader is someone
17:19Who actually is not a lesson preparer
17:21But instead what we do is
17:23We work with the same group of kids everyday
17:25We travel with them from site to site
17:27We develop relationships with them
17:29We shepherd them
17:31We mentor them
17:33In other words this is not a lot of work on your part
17:35There's no lesson preparation
17:37You're just building relationships
17:39It's super for volunteers who don't have a lot of time
17:41Because there's not a lot of preparation at all
17:43It's basically coming in
17:45Getting to know the kids
17:47Developing relationships with them
17:49Without having all the preparation that's involved in being a teacher
17:51Sounds like a fun job
17:53It's fantastic
17:55If you have lots of people in the program
17:57You'll have many family clusters
17:59But if you have a smaller group of participants
18:01You may only have a few family clusters
18:03Veggie Town values for the family
18:05Will work regardless of the number of people you have
18:07Boy, I sure am glad they got that straightened out
18:09Yep
18:11All the leaders in Veggie Town
18:13Are encouraged to be involved in the activities
18:15They feel comfortable with
18:17Which keeps enthusiasm levels high
18:19And helps to avoid burnout
18:21Teacher Mike
18:23Teacher Donna
18:25Teacher Dawn
18:27Everybody seems to be going someplace
18:29Where are they all headed?
18:31Well it looks like they're done in Veggie Town Square
18:33That means they're being dismissed to the five different sites
18:35Let's go take a look
18:37I'm Bob the Tomato
18:39And I'm Larry the Cucumber
18:41And I'll be taking your order today
18:43Taking your what?
18:45Larry, what are you up to?
18:47I have a new job, Bob
18:49I'm opening up my own fast food restaurant
18:51Do you know anything about fast food?
18:53Sure I do
18:55And my restaurant will be unique
18:57How's that?
18:59We'll be the only ones selling Larry's special deep fried peanut butter and jellyfish sandwiches
19:01Peanut butter and jellyfish?
19:03Hold that thought Larry
19:05Here we are at the Veggie Town restaurant
19:07Where they've put together a pizza place
19:09What should we get on our pizza?
19:11I was thinking maybe some cheese sausage
19:13And how about some extra cucumber?
19:17I may need to rethink my menu
19:19While he does that
19:21You have a good time in Veggie Town
19:23See you soon
19:25Oh we will Bob
19:27Because Veggie Town has five family friendly sites
19:29That encourage kids to build family values
19:31These include Veggie Town Restaurant
19:33Home, Beach, Church
19:35And Retirement Center
19:37Kids will encounter all kinds of activities
19:39To learn new godly values
19:41As they visit each of these locations
19:43One of the things we've done
19:45Is try to give churches
19:47Lots of ideas for decorations
19:49I like how this church made the door sizes
19:51Just right for kids
19:53The adults have to bend a little
19:55But the kids just love it
19:57It's recommended to have two leaders
19:59At each site
20:01These leaders are representatives
20:03Of the area they are in
20:05For example at the beach
20:07There is a lifeguard and a swimmer
20:09And at the Veggie Town restaurant
20:11There is a waitress and a cook
20:13I'm a cook
20:15A cook?
20:17Oven mitts are very important in the kitchen
20:19Safety first
20:21Yeah but you don't wear an oven mitt on your head
20:23You wear oven mitts on your hands
20:25I don't have any hands
20:27Morning boys and girls
20:29Morning
20:33These leaders welcome children
20:35Present the bible story
20:37The life application activities
20:39Games, crafts
20:41And even offer refreshments
20:43I hear it's flowing
20:45Wet milk and honey
20:49Sounds sticky
20:51Okay so golfing with lemons
20:53It's going to be harder than regular golf balls
20:55So we need to show compassion to one another
20:57Okay can you do that?
20:59Yeah
21:01Alright
21:03Right in there
21:05Keep going you can get it
21:07Yeah
21:15The start of each session
21:17Begins with some opening fun
21:19Where the leaders introduce the value that kids will learn
21:21And encourage some relationship building
21:23In their family clusters
21:25That part of the lesson is called
21:27Planting the seed for each generation
21:29Or
21:31In other words
21:33Family is a mushroom
21:35Do muscle arms
21:37Yeah look at them
21:41Wow are these guys incredible or what?
21:43Yeah I'd say so
21:47But they aren't exactly humble
21:49Well it has to be hard to be humble
21:51When you've got muscles like they do
21:53That's true I suppose
21:55But that doesn't mean we should brag
21:57Or show off that special part of us does it?
21:59Hey guys maybe we should try
22:01To be a little more humble about those muscles
22:03Yeah
22:05And don't you forget it
22:07That was great
22:09What just took place in here?
22:11Well this was one of the fun openings
22:13Found at all the sites in Veggie Town
22:15Each site is designed to have an interactive activity
22:17That introduces the family theme
22:19That they're going to be learning about
22:21And also teaches the kids a little bit about God
22:23And they're all filled with all sorts of fun
22:25Did you build your muscles?
22:27I built my muscles
22:29Let's see what's next
22:31I'm ready let's go
22:33The second part of each session is called
22:35Discovering our generational roots
22:37Or
22:43One more time please
22:45Discovering our annunciation
22:47Sharing the Bible story
22:49Oh I see
22:51Now the salt represents
22:53Compassion that's what Jesus wants us to
22:55Keep on other people
22:57So I'm going to pour the salt
22:59Here around this egg
23:01Stir it around
23:03You guys can see
23:05The egg's at the surface now
23:07Wow
23:09Beautiful
23:11Wow I thought we were going to get to eat that egg
23:13What did they have to do with the program?
23:15That was the introduction to the Bible story
23:17That's offered at each of the different sites
23:19There's an interactive activity
23:21That engages kids and gets them involved
23:23In thinking about what they're going to learn
23:25In the upcoming Bible story
23:27In this case it was all about compassion
23:29I think they're starting the story now
23:31Maybe we should join them
23:33Sounds like fun
23:35I still can't believe that someone
23:37Couldn't do something for him
23:39I couldn't stop crying
23:41Jesus died for you and me
23:43Jesus loved everyone so much
23:45That he was willing to
23:47Die for us to show us
23:49How deep that love is
23:51Jesus loves me
23:53This is the main Bible presentation
23:55Where everyone gets involved
23:57In an interactive story
23:59Each story illustrates how Jesus
24:01Wants us to incorporate the value
24:03That's being learned into our lives
24:05And family experiences
24:07These creative presentations involve kids
24:09Trying to keep their attention
24:11Yet they don't get so wrapped up
24:13With creativity that the message
24:15Gets lost along the way
24:17We think that's really important
24:19Are each of the stories Bible-based?
24:21Oh, absolutely
24:23We've made every effort to make sure
24:25That kids understand that the story
24:27Is from their Bibles
24:29That's great, I really want to make sure
24:31That they're taking that element
24:33Home with them of using the Bible
24:35A friend loves it all times
24:37One way I can show love to a friend
24:39Is by being honest with them
24:43A friend loves it all times
24:45Proverbs 17, 17
24:47I can show love to a friend
24:49By sharing my things with them
24:51Every lesson has a Bible verse
24:53That helps to enforce the lesson
24:55Taught by Jesus
24:57Along with an application activity
24:59That helps kids to remember it
25:01Because Bartimaeus was blind
25:03What did he have to do?
25:05Let's find out and see if that's right
25:07Ben, you're right
25:09Excellent job
25:11After participants explore the Bible story
25:13They move on to the next portion
25:15Of the session called
25:17Branching out in this generation
25:19Or
25:21This portion of each session
25:23Offers a variety of options
25:25To explore what has been learned
25:27You're going to glue the eyes
25:29On the styrofoam ball
25:31The mouth
25:33Glue the feet underneath the box
25:35What are you supposed to do
25:37With this when you go home?
25:39When I go home
25:41I'm going to put prayer requests in here
25:43And then what do you do
25:45After the prayer requests are inside?
25:47I keep them there until
25:49I'm ready to get them out and pray
25:51Okay, so like maybe once a week
25:53You might take them out
25:55And then your whole family
25:57Prays for whatever you put
25:59Inside the box
26:01So maybe to have patience
26:03Until my mom
26:05Either lets us get it
26:07Or lets us get a different pet
26:09That's a very good one
26:11Each leader's guide has been specifically
26:13Designed for every age group of children
26:15Veggie Tots is for preschoolers
26:17And non-readers
26:19Veggie Kids is for elementary age children
26:21And Veggie Teens
26:23Is for youth
26:25These guides have tons of options
26:27For leaders to pick and choose from
26:29That way churches can put together
26:31A program that meets their specific needs
26:33There are activities
26:35That incorporate different learning styles
26:37Various budgets
26:39A variety of personality types
26:41There is something for everyone
26:43The best part of Veggie Town
26:45For leaders I think is
26:47It has a step by step
26:49Curriculum where it lays everything out
26:51So you're not searching for a lot of different things
26:53To fill your time
26:55So here are all your options
26:57Here's the materials that you'll need
26:59Here's about the time it'll take
27:01They can come in, they can see familiar faces
27:03They know Bob, they know Larry
27:05They know all the characters
27:07And they are using those characters
27:09To be able to teach their lessons
27:11One of the best things for leaders
27:13Is being able to share the gospel with kids
27:15It's really about having a great time
27:17Learning about God's word
27:19The kids got excited about it, and that's fun
27:21When the kids are having fun, we have fun
27:23Jesus said let the children come
27:25We're teaching them to God and to God's word
27:27And I think the best part is watching them grow
27:29And watching the excitement on their faces
27:31One of the options in Veggie Town
27:33Is for kids to visit the Veggie Town TV studio
27:35This is the place where kids see
27:37A specially adapted segment
27:39Of one of their favorite VeggieTale videos
27:41I think I've seen that one
27:43Doesn't it have Jerry Lewis in it?
27:45No, be quiet and watch the film
27:47These segments have been edited
27:49To enhance the family value
27:51That is being learned
27:53Now this may surprise you
27:55But VeggieTown values for the family
27:57Is not a video based curriculum
27:59Instead, the video segment
28:01Is just one of many options
28:03To help you reinforce the aim
28:05Other options include
28:07A variety of crafts
28:09Games, snacks
28:11And exploring the meaning of each value
28:13Let's take a look at some of them
28:15What we need to do is take a little picture
28:17Like that
28:19Hide it
28:21And give it a little twist
28:23Here at the VeggieTown Retirement Center
28:25Where we're making boo-boo bunnies
28:27And Rebecca here is showing me how
28:29Now we have to roll up the washcloth
28:31And then we fold it in half
28:33And twist it
28:35And the ears pop up
28:37And then we have a bunny
28:39And these boo-boo bunnies help
28:41To teach us about compassion
28:43Isn't that right?
28:45So that when somebody's feeling hurt
28:47They can put ice inside the bunny
28:49And then you can give it to them
28:51To help them feel better, right?
28:53Each of the different crafts in VeggieTown
28:55Are related to the specific family value
28:57That's being taught at that session
28:59How are you doing over here, Kathy?
29:01Are the kids having fun?
29:03We're having a great time, Laura and Sullivan
29:05We made our boo-boo bunnies
29:07They turned out wonderful
29:09We had a great time making those
29:11Hey, it's a big stage!
29:13I need a napkin, right?
29:19Cut!
29:21Larry!
29:23One reason I was patient
29:25Was when I was waiting to get my cat
29:27One reason that I'm patient
29:29Is that I always have to wait for my birthday
29:31I'm patient when I'm waiting
29:33For the school bus to arrive
29:35I'm patient in lines for food
29:37Wow, the kids sure are having a lot of fun
29:39But how do they take all these values
29:41And apply them to their life's experiences?
29:43Oh, that's the life application part of the program
29:45In fact, they're doing that right now
29:47In the VeggieTown church
29:49Kids always have lots of questions
29:51On how this applies to them
29:53Ooh, questions
29:55I'm good at questions
29:57Bearing fruit for every generation
29:59Is the next part of the session
30:01This is basically...
30:03Party!
30:05This part of the session
30:07Helps kids to personalize what they've learned
30:09While they're discovering ways
30:11To use these values
30:13In their families at home
30:15And in God's world
30:17Everybody gets six slices of pie
30:19And each different slice
30:21Writes in different things
30:23To talk to God about
30:25The kids look really involved here
30:27Can you tell me what that's about?
30:29Well, this is one of the life application projects
30:31That they're doing
30:33The leaders have three different projects
30:35To pick and choose from
30:37And say, what does this have to do with me?
30:39This is a prayer circle
30:41That they use to pray to God
30:43And when they get home
30:45It will help them to remember
30:47What it means to be holy
30:49And it's something that they can actually take with them
30:51Absolutely, I like that
30:53Life application is an essential element
30:55To VeggieTown values
30:57Every lesson encourages participants
30:59To process what they've learned
31:01So that they can leave VeggieTown
31:03And use the values they discovered each day
31:05There are plenty of ways
31:07Like getting involved in pickle pot dilemmas
31:09Oh, what a pickle!
31:11You know, Bob, over here, Larry
31:13You know, Bob
31:15These are life application problems
31:17Similar to life experiences
31:19Problems are picked out of a pickle pot
31:21And then decisions have to be made
31:23On how to solve the problem
31:25Based on what has been learned
31:27Oh, hey, I just remembered
31:29I got an email from a kid named Ezio Vieri
31:31In Hackensack, New Jersey
31:33You know, Bob, email
31:35Aren't you wired? Online, surfing the web
31:37HTML, good buddy
31:39Kids also have the opportunity
31:41To join their families at home
31:43Or at their local library
31:45And log on to VeggieTown.com
31:47It provides families with more games
31:49And reflection activities
31:51That provide opportunities for learning
31:53Even after kids have left VeggieTown
31:55Ready? Here we go!
31:57I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy
31:59I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy
32:01I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy
32:03I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy
32:05I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy
32:07One, two, three, four
32:09Down in my heart, down in my heart
32:11Down in my heart to stay
32:13Down in my heart to stay
32:15Down in my heart to stay
32:17Down in my heart to stay
32:19Down in my heart to stay
32:21At the close of each day
32:23Kids gather once more
32:25In the VeggieTown Square
32:27There they sing a fun VeggieTown song
32:29Pose with a prayer
32:31And receive an invitation
32:33To come back for more
32:35Wow, I had a great time today
32:37But I do have one more question for you
32:39Since it's a family-based program
32:41How can we get moms and dads involved?
32:43That's a really good question
32:45Big Idea Productions is doing something
32:47All new this year
32:49It's an intergenerational approach
32:51Called VeggieFamily
32:53That's a wonderful program
32:55That involves participants of all ages
32:57So moms and dads will get involved
32:59It's very different from what you saw today
33:01This year, VeggieTown Values
33:03Offers a new and innovative approach to learning
33:05It's an intergenerational experience
33:07For people of all ages
33:09Everybody can learn
33:11At the same time
33:13Not only are mom and dad invited to take part
33:15But everyone is included
33:17Seniors, singles
33:19Couples without children
33:21Everyone can be involved
33:23Who knows, you might like it
33:25Yeah, that sounds fun
33:27Cindy and Kathy are visiting
33:29The Glen Ellen Evangelical Covenant Church
33:31In Illinois
33:33Where that program is being offered
33:45As you can see
33:47People come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes
33:49And all different ages
33:51Here in VeggieFamily
33:53Yes, I notice the kids just like at Christ Community
33:55But I also notice the families, the moms and dads
33:57That's because VeggieFamily
33:59Is for people of all ages
34:03Hey Qwerty
34:05Can you help us?
34:07This is Qwerty
34:09From some of the VeggieTale videos
34:11Do you recognize it?
34:13Yeah, they did a great job
34:15How about the theme song?
34:17How about it Bob?
34:19And so what we have learned
34:21Applies to our lives today
34:23God has a lot to say
34:25In his
34:27Come on in
34:29It's Aunt Ruth
34:31I'm glad you're here
34:33Are you glad you're here today?
34:35Yeah
34:37I'm glad you're here too
34:39As you can see
34:41Aunt Ruth is a very special part of VeggieTown
34:43She's just like Christ Community
34:45And she's just as fun here as she was at Christ Community
34:47No kidding, everyone's having a great time
34:49And what's your name?
34:51You're just as cute as a button
34:53In VeggieFamily
34:55People still gather in family clusters
34:57In VeggieTown Square
34:59They visit the same sites
35:01They have the same four-part lessons
35:03And these are incorporated
35:05Into every one of the sessions
35:07But every lesson
35:09Is different in VeggieFamily
35:11While participants learn
35:13The same godly values
35:15Each story is told in a new and unique way
35:17All the life application
35:19And learning activities are different too
35:21Each one is designed
35:23For intergenerational learning experiences
35:25In other words
35:27These activities are created for people of all ages
35:29To do at the same time
35:31Learning together
35:33Are you serious?
35:35We might even learn from them too
35:37We can learn a lot from people who are different than us
35:41There's never a person
35:43All ages
35:45Each time for
35:47VeggieFace
35:55How can people of all ages
35:57Learn in just one siting?
35:59That's a good question
36:01Actually Jesus encouraged people
36:03To share their faith with people of all ages
36:05That's why this program
36:07Builds God's citizens
36:09Oh it was wonderful looking out
36:11And seeing the families together
36:13That's something that you don't normally experience
36:15Through a vacation Bible school
36:17We had a time where they all played games together
36:19I really felt like they enjoyed that time
36:21Both interacting
36:23And then talking together
36:25About what the message was
36:27The adults, they behaved themselves fairly well too
36:29We were concerned about them
36:31But they joined right in and had a good time
36:33Families worked real well together
36:35Most everyone tended to get involved
36:37The adults and the children alike
36:39Were willing to do that
36:41In veggie families
36:43The activities encourage everyone
36:45To empathize with people of different age groups
36:47Which can sometimes be an eye-opening experience
36:51Okay now when I put these sunglasses on
36:53I can hardly see anything
36:55So this is supposed to be what it's like
36:57When you get older and you have trouble seeing
36:59Yes
37:01And what do you have?
37:03I have this taped to my finger
37:05Right
37:07And here comes my hearing problems
37:09Right here
37:11What? We can't hear you
37:13What?
37:15What?
37:17Hello, hello
37:19Testing 1, 2, 3
37:21It makes it harder to hear
37:23This is real hard
37:25And now I'm supposed to play a game
37:27Each of the activities
37:29Is designed so that adults
37:31Don't feel like they're involved in teaching
37:33Or babysitting
37:35And the kids don't feel like information
37:37Is going over their heads either
37:39Well thank you Mr. Elfrid
37:41Wasn't that a great story kids?
37:45It's unique learning experiences
37:47That engage and involve a variety of people
37:49In a variety of kinds of learning
37:51There are many options
37:53Provided to the leaders that suggest different activities
37:55These accommodate different circumstances
37:57And age groups
37:59Can I teach the kids how to chew without moving your jaw?
38:01Larry!
38:03How about how to use a fork to eat soup?
38:05Have a fun time at VeggieTown kids
38:07Or maybe how to suck spaghetti through a straw
38:09Oh brother
38:11Oh don't worry Bob
38:13Larry's just trying to be creative
38:15And that's what participants will find in VeggieFamily
38:17Let's see how
38:19Here we go
38:21Go
38:23Alright
38:33Here we go
38:35Throw it
38:37In planting the seeds for each generation
38:39Family clusters encourage one another
38:41And develop relationships across the ages
38:43They'll have opportunities
38:45To think about how their actions
38:47Affect people in various walks of life
38:49This also encourages members
38:51To break down some of the age boundaries
38:53And remember that we are all part
38:55Of the same family of God
38:59Doesn't it just warm your heart?
39:01During discovering
39:03Our generational roots
39:05The responsibility for Bible presentation
39:07Often falls on the participants themselves
39:09Where's that stupid waitress?
39:11My coffee's cold
39:13There she is
39:15Hey can't I get some service here?
39:17Sorry we're really busy
39:19I twisted my ankle yesterday
39:21Listen here
39:23We're trying to have a Bible study
39:25Right now
39:27And you're not helping
39:29The service is poor
39:31And those kids are making too much noise
39:33They are so aggressive
39:37The Bible stories encourage everyone
39:39To get involved in one way or another
39:41Both young and old alike
39:43How do you guys feel in there?
39:45Do you feel good?
39:47Well that's great
39:49How long do you think they're going to make you stay in there?
39:51I don't know
39:53I don't know either
39:55You're hot
39:57Frankie
39:59Gracie
40:01Oh I didn't see Frankie
40:03It's two of them
40:05What's your name?
40:07My name is Gracie
40:09And I'm going to put some over here
40:11What's your name?
40:13I'm Lazarus
40:15Well of course you're Lazarus
40:17We have a grown up Lazarus here
40:19Somebody called me to come forth
40:21So I didn't know what else to do
40:23But just jump out of where I was
40:25Oh
40:39Thank you Jesus
40:41During Discovering Our Generational Roots
40:43You'll still find plenty of options
40:45For leaders to pick and choose from
40:47But the activities encourage people
40:49Of all ages to take part
40:51For example, some of these activities
40:53May be better suited to older members of your group
40:55But there are lots of suggestions
40:57For how to keep younger children involved as well
40:59Members who feel comfortable in leadership positions
41:01Often jump into various roles
41:03Kids are invited to participate
41:05Through VIME
41:07Or specific responses to the stories
41:09And these lessons still have great introductions
41:11And review activities
41:13That encourage the family clusters
41:15To work together in processing
41:17What Jesus taught in the story
41:19Now let's look
41:21Oh
41:23Larry's a star
41:25Yeah, Larry's a star
41:27Wow, I love all these supplies
41:29The colorful stickers
41:31And the Bob and Larry paper
41:33I don't remember this craft yet
41:35Grace Kennedy though
41:37Oh they didn't do it there
41:39That's because they're making placemats
41:41All the activities here in Veggie Family
41:43Are designed to be family friendly
41:45So that everyone can participate of all ages
41:47They can use Bob the tomato here
41:49Kids can have all sorts of fun
41:51With whatever they put together
41:53Sounds great
41:59Now Kathy you have to remember
42:01That crafts is just one way
42:03That kids can learn
42:05During branching out in this generation
42:07Families learn
42:09During all sorts of different activities
42:11Not just discussion and lecture
42:13We can play something out of play
42:15That they can guess what our word is
42:17What is it?
42:19It's a family
42:21It's a mom and a dad and the kids
42:27Oh this looks like they're having
42:29Such a great time
42:31And I notice all the space here
42:33At both churches that we've seen
42:35But what happens when there's only
42:37A couple of rooms available
42:39Well you can do an activity like this
42:41In a small group setting
42:43Or if you need additional ideas
42:45Hey let's grab a crab and try this out
42:47Sounds good
42:49All right
42:51Let's pull a little problem
42:53Out of the pickle jar
42:55If you ask Jed he'd tell you
42:57That he's a good Christian
42:59He'd say that just like Jesus
43:01He's trying to bring out the best in people
43:03Is Jed right? Is that what Christians do?
43:05I see they're doing pickle pot dilemmas here
43:07That's right it's part of a life application activity
43:09And bearing fruit for each generation
43:11It's nice for individual families
43:13To have pickle pots as well
43:15Because they can process the questions
43:17And answer it how they would actually answer it
43:19Right in their own families at home
43:21And I'll just say well you can do whatever you want
43:23Except tell me to do a fib
43:25And then I'll just walk away
43:27That's good, that's good Zach
43:29Life application activities are a must in Veggie Family
43:31Everyone gets involved in family meetings
43:33To process what they learn
43:35And decide how to take it into the real world
43:37Both these programs look great
43:39But I don't know which one to offer at my church
43:41Well you can offer both
43:43And how do I do that?
43:45Well I have my favorite way
43:47And that's to do the VBS program for children
43:49During the summer months
43:51Then offer Veggie Family once a month
43:53As a family fun event all year long
43:55You'll find a variety of suggestions
43:57For how to incorporate both Veggie Kids
43:59And Veggie Family in the director's materials
44:01Along with instructions
44:03For how to do these programs
44:05Let's go
44:07Alright, good job
44:09Tell me
44:11So tell me about
44:13These family fun events
44:15Well family fun events can be whatever you want to make them
44:17As you can see everybody here
44:19Is having a fabulous time
44:21They've offered a dinner to go with theirs
44:23Um, do you guys have any fried chicken?
44:25I've got a real hankering
44:27For fried chicken
44:29Yeah, me too
44:31The director's materials provide leaders
44:33And alternatives for how to set up VeggieTown
44:35We don't want churches to feel pressured
44:37To set up their program in any particular way
44:39Remember
44:41It's God at work through His people
44:43That makes any program work
44:45Now in case you feel
44:47A little overwhelmed
44:49Both churches started with very plain
44:51Basic rooms
44:53They found ideas for how to create fun
44:55Inviting sites in VeggieTown in the materials
44:57Then they used the clip art
44:59Which you can find in the book
45:01The CD-ROM
45:03And they also used the site descriptions
45:05Found at the beginning of each of the sessions
45:07As Cindy explained to Kathy
45:09There are a variety of ways to go about doing this
45:11It can be done by transferring the art
45:13Onto styrofoam, cardboard
45:15Or any number of other ways
45:17They're really not that hard to make
45:19They're a lot simpler than they look
45:21You get all the patterns
45:23And you can make a transparency
45:25Blow them up and then cut them out of any kind of material
45:27That you want to
45:29Oh absolutely
45:31Excellent
45:33That's how they created the wonderful settings
45:35You've seen here today
45:37Churches are encouraged to put a little creativity
45:39Into making each VeggieTown
45:41Their very own
45:43They've done a great job
45:45And so will you
45:47I'm so glad I got the opportunity
45:49To witness both programs at both different churches
45:51I can't wait to get back to my own church
45:53And put this into action
45:55Well as you can see
