Cycling - La Vuelta 2024 - Eddie Dunbar : "Moments like this don’t come around too often"

00:00Congrats guys.
00:10Again mate.
00:13Holy f**k.
00:16F**k.
00:19Yeah, um.
00:29This one definitely feels a bit more sweeter.
00:32I said to a few people after the stage win last week that it was never a way I expected to win a Grand Tour stage.
00:40I always imagined winning on top of a climb, whether it was from a breakaway or GC group.
00:46Yeah, I just felt good that second part today.
00:52I just backed myself in that climb and paced myself really well.
00:57I knew this climb from a few years ago. We did it in Burgos in 2020.
01:02I knew there was parts where it was steep and it leveled out.
01:05It was a bit different to what it showed on the profile.
01:08I just paced it. I rode the steep parts pretty hard and I rode the flat bits really conservative just to make sure I had enough left in the tank.
01:16Tactically, how did you deal with the GC contenders?
01:20Well, at first when Sivakov went on the climb, no one reacted.
01:25Then I tried to follow and I noticed Borat kind of chased him.
01:30So then I just thought, right, there's no point in wasting bullets on a climb like this when you've Picon Blanco to come.
01:36I'm 12 minutes down on GC. I knew I'd get a bit of leeway.
01:40I think they gave me that.
01:43But I'm just super happy that I could hold on today.
01:47The guys did a super job the last few days keeping me out of trouble.
01:51They really backed me.
01:54We only have five guys here finishing the Vuelta, but they all rode superbly.
02:00Is this Vuelta the real beginning of your career?
02:04No, I don't want to say that.
02:07I've had good times and I've had bad times.
02:11This is all part of the process, I think.
02:15There's going to be more ups and there's going to be more downs.
02:18That's just the way life is and I've learned that throughout my career.
02:22But moments like this don't come around too often.
02:25I've had two of them now in the last two weeks.
02:28I'm just looking forward to sharing these moments and celebrating them with friends and family.
02:35Congratulations.
