00:00A weight off the shoulders of student teachers in a cost of living crisis.
00:07It's been really hard to do that. I'm working at the same time as well, so I'm at school
00:14all week and then I'm working on the weekends just to kind of get through.
00:17The state government has unveiled new incentives to encourage more teachers into the profession.
00:22We will be providing $5,000 to any teachers who are in their final semester of training.
00:30That's on top of $5,000 already on offer for student teachers who take their placement in regional schools.
00:36We are finding it incredibly tough to continually find the right people to come into our school.
00:42It's hoped the scheme will give young teachers a taste of what life can be like away from urban areas.
00:47If you've been a city person, if you've come from the southeast corner and you've never been to those areas,
00:53you don't know how amazing it could be to go there.
00:56For us to be able to bring a pre-service teacher in for six weeks and for them to see it, live it,
01:02and be able to make the choice that it's a good fit for them and also it's a good fit for us is really important.
01:09There's a further incentive for students who decide to stay in regional parts of the state once they graduate.
01:14If you wish to start your teaching career in one of those priority areas, then you can receive up to $20,000.
01:22That $20,000 regional teaching incentive will be spread over four years.
01:27$4,000 in the first year, $5,000 in the second and third years and $6,000 in the fourth.
01:33An enticing offer for a young couple embarking on their careers.
01:36Overall it would be a really big boost for us to get the ground running.
01:41We're thinking about going rural just for the community feel as well, so the incentives definitely help.
