00:21week, after receiving news that her mother, Janelle, has suddenly died.

00:26Nicole Kidman was supposed to be receiving the Best Actress award for her new film Baby

00:33The film's director, Helena Rehn, instead accepted the honour on her behalf, while reading

00:38aloud a prepared statement from the Academy Award-winning actress.

00:42As seen in footage from the ceremony shared to ex-formerly Twitter, Rehn held out a piece

00:48of paper while reading Kidman's words as she wrote,

00:52Today I arrived in Venice only to find out shortly after that my beautiful, brave mother,

00:58Janelle Kidman, has just passed.

01:01I'm in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her.

01:06Kidman's statement continued,

01:08She shaped me.

01:09She guided me.

01:11And she made me.

01:12I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Helena.

01:17The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken, the solemn statement

01:23concluded.

01:24French actress Isabelle Hoppert, president of the Venice Film Festival jury this year,

01:30also spoke out to send her condolences to Kidman, stating,
