00:00Hey everyone, in this video we're going to take a look at a hidden gem in Photoshop,
00:10a feature that's present in the application, but usually overlooked by most users.
00:15We're going to be taking a look at the straighten feature, which is hidden within the ruler
00:18tool.
00:19To the average user, straightening out a photo isn't as simple as it seems.
00:23You have to drag out a guide to define where your horizon should be, enter free transform
00:27mode, oh no, before you do that, you have to convert your background into a layer.
00:31Now you can enter free transform mode and rotate your image until you think it's straight.
00:36Once it's sort of straightened, you need to fiddle with the crop tool in order to remove
00:39the transparent areas.
00:40What a mess.
00:41Let me make it that much easier for you.
00:43This method works from the second you open your image.
00:46In the tools bar, find your ruler tool.
00:48It's probably hidden with the eyedropper tool.
00:50Once the ruler is active, draw a line across the object that should be straight, in this
00:54case the horizon.
00:55No need to guess like you were before.
00:57Once the ruler is drawn out, there's a wonderful straighten button on your options bar.
01:01Boom.
01:02No need to rotate.
01:03No need to crop.
01:04Photoshop does it all for you.
01:06So the next time you take a beautiful but crooked picture of a sunrise, remember that
01:09the ruler tool is your best friend.
01:11Take care.
