00:00This demolition is now underway at the former Harts building at the corner of Bond Street
00:13and Waterloo Road. The building was locally listed but closed in 2019 and in the intervening
00:25years it's badly fallen into dereliction. It actually opened in 1928 as Blackpool's
00:31second Woolworths store but after that closed Harts operated it for 25 years. There are
00:40plans now to redevelop the site. It was originally earmarked for a car park but that was refused
00:49by the council. Now there are plans under consideration still for it to become holiday
00:55accommodation with I think 23 apartments proposed. So that's waiting for planning permission.
01:03But it will need a big change to this area of Blackpool. A lot of people have been concerned
01:10about the building becoming an eyesore including one of the local councillors, Diane Mitchell
01:15who's campaigned for something to be done and she warned it would collapse unless it
01:22was demolished. So work's now underway and hopefully big change is coming to this part
01:28of Blackpool.
01:58Thanks for watching.
