00:00Why does a married woman decide to cheat a woman who has a good home, a loving husband,
00:05and two wonderful children after 15 years of a happy marriage?
00:09Why I kept asking myself this as I read the private investigator's report and looked
00:13through the photos included in it.
00:16Why I kept asking myself.
00:18And the only thing I could come up with was that she had some kind of mental breakdown.
00:21Did she love him?
00:23According to the report they met only for sex.
00:25No sane woman would risk everything she has for a few minutes of sinful pleasure, mental
00:29illness.
00:30That's the only explanation I could give as the tears streamed down my face.
00:35The detective left me alone in the empty office to read the report, knowing I would need privacy
00:40to process what was written and deal with the emotions it would inevitably stir.
00:44I went through the photos and noticed how shamelessly she was indulging in sex with
00:48her lover.
00:49I recognized him as Chad Wilkins, an employee at the real estate agency where she worked
00:54as an agent.
00:56They met a couple of times a week at Motel 6 by the interstate and sometimes in our home
01:00in the guest bedroom.
01:02That's where he got the pictures so there would be no issues with privacy when it came
01:05to the divorce court.
01:07When the detective first saw them entering our house, he installed many cameras and audio
01:11APs in various rooms.
01:14Now I had to figure out how and when to handle it.
01:16I was firmly resolved that I would have to divorce her.
01:19I could not bear the thought of her cheating on me and expecting me to turn the other cheek.
01:24My name is Frank Noland, I'm 43 years old and I manage a supermarket.
01:29The job sometimes requires long hours away from my family and perhaps that contributed
01:33to my wife losing her way.
01:35I thought but damn it.
01:37That wasn't a reason I could accept.
01:39My wife's name is Joan, she's 42.
01:42We met in college and from our first date no other woman existed for me.
01:46I loved her and trusted her throughout our married life.
01:50As I mentioned, she works as a real estate agent and spends a lot of time out of the
01:53office.
01:55As does Chad and I think that's what gave them the opportunity to carry on their affair.
02:00Chad is around our age and is married to Mona, a very nice pleasant woman and they also have
02:04two children about the same age as ours.
02:07I met them at various family events hosted by the real estate company and always thought
02:11they were a good family.
02:14I thought the divorce could be handled very amicably, citing irreconcilable differences
02:18is the reason.
02:20If she agreed to cooperate we earned about the same so there shouldn't be any alimony.
02:25And if our 14 year old son Jeremy moved in with me while our 12 year old daughter Kim
02:29stayed with her mother, there wouldn't be any child support either.
02:33The house would have to be sold and all the assets divided equally.
02:37If she didn't agree to this, I would threaten her with a divorce for infidelity.
02:42In the report, with all the photos, audio recordings and videos would be made public,
02:46I thought about Chad and how this would affect his family, but I didn't know yet how to deal
02:50with that issue.
02:51I figured when the time was right.
02:54I would take the evidence I had and give it to his wife, leaving her to decide what to
02:58do.
02:59I knew it would devastate her as much as it had devastated me, but she deserved to know
03:03the truth about the man she was married to and I wanted revenge for what he had done
03:07to my family.
03:09At that moment there was a knock on the door and the detective walked in.
03:13How are you doing Mr. Newland?
03:15Do you have any questions about the material?
03:17No probably not.
03:19Everything here is just as I expected.
03:21I replied sadly, would you like to watch the videos or listen to the audio recordings?
03:26It might give you a better idea of how things unfolded.
03:30No thank you.
03:32I don't want to see anything more than what's already shown in the photos.
03:35I replied I really couldn't accept what I had seen as she had completely given herself
03:39to another man, so I stood up and prepared to leave, on my way out.
03:44I wrote the detective a check for the remaining balance and taking his report with the photos,
03:48audio and video recordings, walked out of the office.
03:52Stopping in a park not far from our home, I reflected on the events that led me to uncover
03:56my soon to be ex-wife's infidelity.
03:59I didn't want to enter the house we once called home because I could no longer think of it
04:02as our home.
04:04It was just a place where we ate and slept.
04:06I decided I would try to keep the family together as long as possible for the sake of the kids
04:10as they needed its stability.
04:13Joan is an attractive woman and stays in shape through exercise and activities related to
04:18her job.
04:19She's by no means slim after having children, but I noticed she had lost a little weight
04:23and seemed very tired lately, which I attributed to a new diet.
04:27She still seemed very sweet to me.
04:29Our sex life had been frequent until a few weeks ago and very loving, though mostly gentle,
04:34sticking to the missionary position and rarely or never exploring other kinds of sex.
04:39I had thought about talking to her about splicing up our sex life, but always feared how she
04:43might react to some of my fantasies.
04:46I didn't immediately realize that the frequency of our sex had decreased.
04:50But looking back I can see that she didn't want to have sex with me on the day she was
04:53with Chad, but the rest of the time our lovemaking continued as usual.
04:58It wasn't until I accidentally saw the bank statement for her personal card and noticed
05:01charges at our local Motel 6 that I became suspicious and decided to investigate.
05:06The result was the private detective's report.
05:10Maybe I should have confronted her about it right away.
05:12But if she was cheating, I wanted it documented it was very expensive and I had to dip into
05:18our retirement savings to pay for it.
05:21I figured that if what I suspected turned out to be true, I wouldn't need to worry about
05:25growing old together.
05:27What bothered me the most was that she never seemed to change her loving attitude toward
05:31me.
05:32Even while she was having an affair, I wondered how she could be so two-faced, acting as if
05:36nothing in her life had changed.
05:39She must be a good actress, I thought from what she did with Chad.
05:42It was clear she had lost her love and respect for me as a husband and lover, and she had
05:47to be punished for her deceitful behavior.
05:50As I sat in the park, the same one we had taken our children to so many times as they
05:54grew up, I felt my eyes fill with tears again and my thoughts drifted back to the 15 years
05:59I had believed were a perfect marriage.
06:02How could she have given up so easily?
06:04I quietly sobbed, leaning my head back on the park bench, until I finally pulled myself
06:08together.
06:10Another thought came to mind, if she truly has a mental illness, could I stay with her?
06:14Our wedding vows included the words in sickness and in health.
06:18Mental illness is a sickness.
06:20Could I stay in the marriage to honor that vow if she ended her affair?
06:23But the wedding vows also included the words in forsaking all others, and she certainly
06:27hadn't done that.
06:29I decided that I could never trust her again, and if I couldn't trust her even if it was
06:33caused by illness, I couldn't live with her.
06:36How could I keep an eye on her while also working?
06:39So divorce was the only solution.
06:42Then I considered how to handle the divorce with minimal impact on the children and without
06:46a serious confrontation with her.
06:49But first I needed to find and talk to a divorce lawyer using my cell phone.
06:53I called our attorney to get a recommendation.
06:56Jerry was surprised when I told him what I needed, but he gave me a name Ron Jenkins
07:00and a phone number.
07:02Before hanging up, I asked him to rewrite my will, excluding Joan and naming our children
07:06as the sole beneficiaries.
07:08I immediately called and scheduled a meeting with the divorce lawyer for the next morning.
07:12I then decided to return home and try to act normal for a few more days.
07:17When I got home, Joan hadn't arrived yet, but the kids were already back from school
07:23and doing their homework.
07:24I was proud that they had trained themselves with a little help to start on it as soon
07:28as they got home from school.
07:31Dad Kim asked, what are you doing home so early?
07:34I had some errands to run and after that I just came home to check on you guys.
07:38Oh dad, you know how hard working we are.
07:41She replied with a mischievous smile as we hugged she was a wonderful daughter and I
07:45knew I would miss her when I parted ways with her mother.
07:48All right has your mom come home yet?
07:50No she called and said she had a showing and would be a little late.
07:54She's bringing home Chinese for dinner.
07:56Sounds good is Jeremy upstairs in his room?
07:58Yep, as I went upstairs and knocked on Jeremy's door, I wondered if Joan had met with Chad
08:02that afternoon at Motel 6.
08:05I had all the information I needed for the divorce so I was no longer tracking her affair.
08:10Jeremy opened the door and I ruffled his hair and hugged him.
08:13What's up, dad?
08:16Nothing Ja just letting you know I'm home how school, good no complaints.
08:19We chatted for a few more minutes and then I went downstairs and made myself my favorite
08:23drink whiskey on the rocks while waiting for Joan to come home.
08:27She arrived about half an hour later, looking a little tired and pale, even slightly greater
08:32and due to her recent weight loss, her dress hung loosely on her.
08:36She went upstairs and called Jeremy for dinner before turning to me with a smile that lit
08:39up her whole face.
08:41How was my dear husband's day, she asked kissing me on the cheek.
08:46Great I replied.
08:48Kissing her back, are we grumbling about something today?
08:51She asked with a questioning look on her face.
08:53No I'm fine honey, just a stressful day, I answered, trying to sound a bit more cheerful.
08:59She looked at me with a strange expression, almost guilty or so it seemed to me, then
09:03turned and walked back to the kitchen.
09:06I finished my whiskey and went to the kitchen to help her set the table while Kim was pouring
09:10water into the glasses.
09:12Joan seemed to love me just as much as ever and it really puzzled me why she suddenly
09:16felt the need for extra sex and the risk of destroying our marriage.
09:20We enjoyed dinner together while Joan told us about this showing that had delayed her.
09:25It seemed like it was a pretty big deal and her commission could be significant.
09:29I didn't know and I didn't care whether it was a real showing or if she had just been
09:32fooling around with her lover instead.
09:35I was past caring but I tried not to reveal my inner feelings for the kid's sake.
09:39While we ate afterward, the kids cleaned up the kitchen and while Joan was upstairs changing
09:44into something more comfortable.
09:46I went to the living room to watch the news.
09:49I heard the shower running upstairs and wondered if she was washing off her lover's scent,
09:53preparing to have guilty sex with me tonight.
09:55I was starting to go crazy over her affair and thinking about the right way to get revenge.
10:01That night she tried to initiate sex but I pushed her away and turned my back.
10:05I pretended to be asleep and heard her sigh as she turned away.
10:09The next morning I got up early and left the house before everyone else.
10:12I left a note explaining that I had an important project to finish today and needed to start
10:17early.
10:18It was really difficult for me to function normally around Joan and I needed some time
10:21to myself.
10:23I finally started working and managed to get some things done before I had to head to my
10:26meeting with the divorce lawyer.
10:28When I arrived at his office I had a copy of the private investigator's report with
10:31me.
10:33His secretary immediately showed me to his office and after introducing myself I explained
10:37my situation.
10:39He looked through the photos, read the report and agreed that it was a reasonable plan and
10:43could be handled easily if she agreed.
10:46If not, the report, photos and other evidence would be laid out on the table.
10:51I asked him when he would be ready to serve her with a divorce notice and he replied that
10:55it would take a couple of days.
10:57That's how long it would take to prepare the paperwork, file it with the court and then
11:01prepare copies for service.
11:03I asked if he could include one of the photos of her in chat with the divorce papers so
11:06she would immediately know the reason.
11:09He promised he would do that and would call me as soon as the papers were ready.
11:12I left and headed home.
11:15Now I had to decide how to break the news to Jeremy and Kim.
11:18I was certain that the sudden breakup of the family without any warning would devastate
11:22them.
11:23I couldn't warn them in advance, as Joan would find out before she was served, and part of
11:27my revenge was for her to be served right at work.
11:30I think the fact that I knew about her affair would be a complete shock to her.
11:35The divorce notice combined with that knowledge who would force her to suddenly realize what
11:38she had lost it might also signal to Chad that his marriage could be in jeopardy too,
11:43if he's there or hears about it.
11:45The kids were my biggest concern and I needed to figure out how to gently explain our separation
11:49to them.
11:50I spent the rest of the day looking for a furnished apartment that I could temporarily
11:54call home until I found something more permanent.
11:58Finally, I found a place and put down a deposit to hold it for a few days, then headed home.
12:04When I arrived, Joan was already there cooking dinner.
12:07She smiled and kissed me warmly.
12:09God, I thought this woman can act this way and if she can do it, so can I.
12:14I returned her kiss with some passion.
12:16Easy, big boy, wait until tonight and I'll give you what you're looking for.
12:22Kim, who was doing her homework at the dining table, groaned and disgusted mom, that's gross.
12:27Sorry honey mom got carried away for a moment.
12:29Joan laughed.
12:30I wondered if I could stomach making love to her, but she might start to get suspicious
12:34if I didn't respond to her sexual advances.
12:37I had put her off last night, but I couldn't postpone it for two nights without an explanation.
12:43It's for dinner, I asked, still holding her by the waist.
12:46It'll be burnt chicken and biscuits if you don't let go of me.
12:50She replied with a smile as she returned to cooking that night as we were getting ready
12:53for bed.
12:54I was afraid to have sex with her.
12:57I really didn't want to, but for the success of my plan, I had to try.
13:02She slid into bed naked, anticipating our lovemaking, and her body aroused me as it
13:06always did, but I noticed that she looked thinner.
13:09I was about to ask her why she was dieting when she grabbed me and brought her mouth
13:12to mine.
13:14What followed was much more passionate sex than we had ever had before, and nothing like
13:18what I had seen in the photos with Chad, though it wasn't as wild as what I saw in the pictures.
13:23When we finished, she relaxed in my arms.
13:26Oh Frank, I really do love you.
13:30You'll never know how much she whispered kissing me back.
13:33This was too much.
13:35I thought she's cheating on me, and at the same time confessing her love, I'm the most
13:39love chuckled ever.
13:41What kind of glorious horns can you get well soon she'll find out how much she loves me.
13:45It's a shame though because she has such a nice ass.
13:47I love you too, honey.
13:50She snuggled up to me and we fell asleep together.
13:53The next day and night were a repeat of that night, and I knew it would be the last sex
13:57she would ever get from me, so I did my best to please her.
14:00I even added a few things I'd seen in the photos.
14:03When I finished, she collapsed in my arms.
14:06Oh Frank, oh my dear, that was amazing.
14:08You are my greatest love, and I want to tell you that you're the best lover in the world.
14:12I couldn't let that slide.
14:14I love you too, honey, but how do you know I'm the best lover in the world?
14:17How many guys have you slept with?
14:19She hesitated for a moment before answering, and I could almost hear the gears turning
14:23as she tried to come up with the right response.
14:26You're the only one, my dear.
14:28I said that because I can't imagine making love any better.
14:31Good answer, quick thinking, well tomorrow you'll get my response.
14:34Adolres.
14:35I thought just before I fell asleep, she asked me a question.
14:39Frank.
14:40Yeah, can we have some time alone on Saturday morning?
14:43I need to tell you something.
14:45I'll take the kids to my parents' place and we can sit and talk for a bit.
14:49What the hell is she going to confess?
14:52Well too late for that, sweetheart.
14:54Of course I'm fine.
14:55What's going on?
14:56I'll tell you on Saturday.
14:57Al.
14:58Right.
14:59After that I had a hard time falling asleep thinking about what was likely going to happen
15:02tomorrow and how I was going to handle it.
15:05I wondered how she was going to frame her confession.
15:08She would probably make it all my fault.
15:10Damn, I was the best lover in the world and she loved me.
15:14So how could it be my fault?
15:16The next morning I got up early again and went to a diner for breakfast because I didn't
15:20want to see or talk to her anymore.
15:22It was over now.
15:24Later when I got to work, I called the lawyer to check on the status of the divorce papers
15:28and he told me they had been prepared the day before and were ready to be served.
15:32I arranged for them to be served to Joan at 3pm, giving me time to take care of necessary
15:37things.
15:38Then I took the whole day off.
15:40Before leaving I told my secretary that if my wife called, I was out on business.
15:44When I got home, Joan had already left for work and the kids were at school, so I changed
15:49into my work clothes and then rented a small truck from You Hey.
15:53When I got back home I started loading my personal belongings, clothes, computer, etc.
15:58I even hauled my favorite chair into the truck and got ready to head to the apartment I had
16:03rented.
16:04Just as I was getting into the taxi, the neighbor came over to see what was going on.
16:09Frank she asked, are you guys moving?
16:11No just me, what's going on, are you having problems?
16:14Joan found other interests so I guess it's time for me to move on.
16:17Oh that's awful.
16:20But I can't imagine Joan doing anything to ruin your marriage.
16:24Well you can talk to her when she gets home tonight, I'm not sticking around.
16:27See you.
16:28Alice.
16:29I drove off, leaving her with a puzzled expression on her face.
16:33I knew that by the end of the day, most of the neighbors would have heard that Joan had
16:37cheated on me and I had left her.
16:40Alice was the neighborhood gossip.
16:43After unloading the truck at my new place, I returned it and picked up my car.
16:48When I got back to the apartment, I tidied up, took a shower and changed clothes.
16:53After lunch, I went to our bank, withdrew half the money from our joint account and
16:56transferred it to my own account.
16:59Then I spent a couple of hours taking care of insurance and other things that needed
17:02to be updated.
17:03At 230, I drove to the middle school where the kids studied and waited for them to come
17:07out.
17:09It took a few minutes to pick up the kids before they got on the school bus and both
17:13of them were puzzled by my presence as we headed home.
17:16Why did you pick us up?
17:17Dad, what's going on?
17:18Kim asked.
17:20I'll tell you in a minute, sweetheart, I said as I pulled into the park near our house
17:23and parked the car.
17:25Kim was sitting in the front seat next to me and Jeremy was in the back when I turned
17:28to face them.
17:29Both looked very confused.
17:30Kim, it's very hard for me to tell you this, but I've left your mother.
17:35You'll be staying with her until we figure out custody.
17:38But I have my own apartment now and I won't be living at home anymore.
17:41Why?
17:42Dad, Kim exclaimed.
17:45Tears in her eyes.
17:47Why can't you be with us anymore?
17:48Jeremy just muttered oh damn and turned away so we couldn't see his tears.
17:52I'm really sorry guys and I can't explain the reason but you need to remember that we
17:55both love you and will always be there for you.
17:58You'll both need to support your mom and be there for her but our marriage is broken and
18:02I don't think it can be fixed.
18:03We'll still be your mom and dad but we won't be together.
18:07Now Kim was openly crying and I reached out and tried to hug her over the console.
18:11It was unbearable to see my little girl cry.
18:14Why did Joan do this to us?
18:15I asked myself, look at what she's doing to our kids.
18:19Finally a bit of calm returned and I drove them back to the house where I no longer lived.
18:24Before leaving them there, I hugged them.
18:26Both tears were still running down their faces and mine too.
18:29You guys go and do your homework and try to keep your minds busy.
18:33Mom will be home soon and I don't think she'll be too happy so be ready to support her.
18:37If you need anything, you can call me on my cell and I'll call you on yours to check on
18:40how you're doing.
18:42I'm really sorry about this, but sometimes things happen that we have no control over
18:46and this is one of those times.
18:48I left them and headed to my place.
18:50Glancing at the clock I saw it was already past 3.
18:54She only should have received the bad news by now.
18:56It was around 5pm that same day when my cell phone rang.
19:00I checked the caller ID and saw it was a relative calling with some hesitation.
19:04I picked up the phone.
19:06Hello.
19:07Um.
19:08Frank.
19:09Frank.
19:10I heard my father-in-law Sam speaking.
19:11Yes.
19:12Sam what can I do for you?
19:13I liked Sam.
19:14We had always gotten along.
19:16Well Frank Joan is in the hospital.
19:17In the hospital?
19:18Yes, they brought her in from work.
19:21She collapsed there a couple of hours ago, right after she was served the divorce papers.
19:25She asked us to call you what the hell is going on Frank.
19:28Sam, she was cheating on me and I found out.
19:30Oh damn, are you sure that doesn't sound like her?
19:33I have a private investigator's report photos, videos and audio.
19:37It's all clear.
19:38Oh damn, this is going to destroy her mother.
19:41How is Joan?
19:42She was in severe shock.
19:44But I also found out something else.
19:46She's dying.
19:48The word she's dying seemed to stun me for a moment before I responded, asking for clarification.
19:53What do you mean?
19:55She's dying.
19:57She has terminal pancreatic cancer.
19:59She only has a few weeks left to live.
20:01My god I didn't know that.
20:03Sam, she never told me how long has she known.
20:06She's pretty sedated.
20:07But she managed to say about three months, she's really distraught.
20:11Can you come to the hospital?
20:13I think she wants to see you.
20:14My mind was in turmoil.
20:16Joan in a terminal stage.
20:18What was I about to do?
20:19Damn.
20:20I already told the kids I was leaving her.
20:23The kids, oh damn they're home alone.
20:26I'll come as soon as I can.
20:28But I need to take care of the kids.
20:29They're home by themselves.
20:31Where are you?
20:32I'm at my apartment.
20:33You planned this in advance.
20:35Yes, I wanted her to feel the same pain she caused me.
20:38I loved that woman and trusted her.
20:41There's no excuse for breaking the vows we made before God.
20:45I think I can understand that.
20:48Now I need to get home.
20:50How long are they going to keep her there, at least overnight?
20:53They want to monitor her.
20:54Is it okay if I bring the kids tonight?
20:56I think she'd prefer they stay away.
20:58She'll be going home tomorrow and she'll be able to handle it better.
21:02Then are you coming here tonight?
21:04It's a mess.
21:05I don't know what to do now.
21:06I'll have to stay with the kids tonight.
21:09Tell her we'll talk tomorrow.
21:10I'll take the kids to school and then I'll come to see her.
21:14Okay Frank, I'll tell her we'll stay with her until she falls asleep.
21:18After hanging up, I got into the car and headed home.
21:21While I was driving, my phone rang.
21:23It was Kim calling Hi Kim Dad.
21:25Mom isn't home yet.
21:26Did something happen to her?
21:29I'm on my way home now.
21:30Sweetheart, I'll explain everything when I get there.
21:33It'll just take a few minutes.
21:35Okay, see you soon.
21:38God, what am I going to tell the kids this was such a mess?
21:42Why didn't she tell me she was terminally ill?
21:44Maybe that somehow explains why she had the affair.
21:46She must have started it after she got the diagnosis.
21:50No wonder she was losing weight and always feeling tired.
21:54As I pulled up to the house, Kim ran out to greet me.
21:57Jeremy stood in the doorway watching Dad, where's Mom?
22:01She's in the hospital sweetie.
22:03She fainted and they took her in for some tests.
22:06Grandpa Sam called and she's fine.
22:08So don't worry we'll see her tomorrow when she comes home, they're just keeping her overnight
22:11to make sure she's okay.
22:13I took her hand and we went inside.
22:16I put my arm around Jeremy's shoulders to comfort him.
22:19He seemed to appreciate the gesture.
22:21How about we go out to eat somewhere guys after dinner at our favorite pizzeria?
22:24We came back home.
22:26I called Sam to check on Joan and he said she was sleeping peacefully and that they
22:30were getting ready to head home.
22:32I told him again that I would come by in the morning and bring her home.
22:36We had things to talk about.
22:38He agreed with me.
22:39Before the kids went to bed, Jeremy asked,
22:42Are you coming back home, Dad?
22:45I thought for a moment before answering.
22:48It looks like I'll have to you guys plan on going to school tomorrow and then I'll probably
22:51bring your mom home tomorrow evening.
22:53We'll have a family talk.
22:55Okay.
22:56Yeah, everything's fine.
22:59Continuing to hold my hand.
23:00I didn't pull away from her.
23:02The meeting with the kids took place shortly after they got home from school.
23:06Kim expressed her joy at her mother's return, while Jeremy was less demonstrative but seemed
23:10relieved to see her again.
23:12They both wanted to know if we were still angry with each other and if we were back
23:16together for good.
23:17We reassured them that mom was home for good, but that there were still some issues in our
23:21relationship that needed to be worked out and she would be sleeping in the guest room
23:24for a while.
23:26I assured them that the issues would be resolved soon and they seemed satisfied with that.
23:30I knew it was my responsibility to lead the family discussion, which wasn't going to be
23:34pleasant but it was something we had to go through and leave behind in order to move
23:37forward.
23:38You know guys, there are a few more changes we need to talk about.
23:42Your mom won't be going back to work, she'll be staying home and we'll all need to help
23:45her as much as we can soon.
23:48We'll hire someone to come and help while I'm at work and you're at school so mom will
23:51be alone Kim, initially confused, was the first to speak.
23:55Are you sick?
23:56Mom?
23:57Joan, sitting next to Kim, wrapped her arm around her shoulders.
24:00Yes, sweetheart, I'm sick and it's going to get worse.
24:05Kim's eyes widened as she realized what her mother was, telling her.
24:08What is it?
24:09Mom, it's cancer and it can't be cured.
24:11You're not going to get better.
24:13Her realization dawned on Kim's face and I heard Jeremy mutter, oh damn.
24:19Tears welled up in Kim's eyes and began streaming down her cheeks.
24:23Are you going to die?
24:24Mom?
24:25That's right, we all die someday and my time has come early.
24:28God is calling me home to be with him.
24:30Kim turned, buried her face in Joan's shoulder and hugged her around the neck, crying.
24:35I don't want you to die.
24:37You can't die.
24:38I won't let you.
24:39Joe held Kim.
24:41As I turned to Jeremy, tears ran down his cheeks as I pulled him into a hug.
24:45What's wrong with mom?
24:46He choked out cancer, gypancreatic cancer.
24:49There's nothing they can do.
24:51Needless to say, there was a lot of crying and praying over the next hour before any
24:55sort of reluctant acceptance was reached.
24:57Kim still refused to believe that her mother was going to leave her, and I knew she would
25:01need strong support from another woman when Joan was gone.
25:04Finally, in an attempt to restore some semblance of normal family life, I called and ordered
25:12pizza.
25:13Kim sat on her mother's lap, hugging her tightly and sobbing while Joan tried to comfort
25:16her.
25:18As we waited for the pizza to arrive, I was amazed at how well Joan was holding it together,
25:23but I knew she was a good mother and would be there for her kids as long as she could.
25:27Tears were running down my cheeks as well.
25:29After a couple of days we had somewhat come to terms with our situation.
25:33Our parents, brothers and sisters had been informed and they gathered to offer support.
25:38Joan's mother, Marge, moved in with us and took over the household duties, naturally.
25:44Joan had to give up the guest room to her mother and I was glad about that.
25:48I missed having her in our bed and realized that making her stay in the guest room was
25:51just petty revenge on a terminally ill woman, and I couldn't justify that to myself.
25:57The first night we spent together was unforgettable.
26:00There were no longer any boundaries that had haunted us throughout our married life and
26:03Joan was deeply remorseful and wanted to make it special for me.
26:07My emotions were conflicted because she had done some of these things first with another
26:10man during our marriage.
26:12Still, I thought about how little time she had left knowing her love for me and our fifteen
26:16years of marriage.
26:18I decided to give her the intimacy, both in lust and in love that she craved.
26:22Her body was thinner, but she was still beautiful when she came to bed.
26:26What started as a soft kiss soon turned into something much more passionate.
26:30We shared an intense and deep connection, something new between us.
26:34It was one of the most exciting experiences we'd ever had together.
26:37She was catching her breath, tears in her eyes and I became concerned.
26:42Are you okay love?
26:43Should I stop?
26:44Oh no!
26:45Don't stop.
26:46I feel so happy, please keep going.
26:49A soft sound escaped her as we continued and she looked at me with such adoration that
26:52was wonderful, so wonderful.
26:54We said things we had never spoken before completely free in that moment and it felt
26:58like nothing was holding us back.
27:00Our connection reached a new height and I felt an overwhelming sense of joy.
27:05As we relaxed, I gently kissed her lips and she began to cry.
27:09Oh my dear husband, I've never felt anything like that before.
27:13I was so foolish not to come to you sooner.
27:16I'm so sorry she said through tears, my love.
27:18I also should have shared my thoughts with you.
27:21If I had, maybe things would have been different.
27:23Let's just focus on the time we have left together.
27:26We had a few more moments like this but after a couple of weeks, her energy started to fade
27:31as the illness progressed.
27:32I held her close as she rested, regretting the time we had lost by not opening up to
27:36each other sooner.
27:38I forgave her for the past, understanding that, in her situation, anyone might have
27:42made similar choices.
27:44I too.
27:45I had my own dreams that I wished I had explored before.
27:48It was too late.
27:50Joan lived for another month and eventually they gave her such strong sedatives that she
27:54simply slipped away from us.
27:56I was there holding her hand as she passed.
27:59Even though her death was expected, I was still heartbroken for quite some time.
28:03Fortunately, Mamart stayed with us for a while after the funeral but eventually she had to
28:07go home to take care of Sam.
28:10I hired a housekeeper to come and cook dinner and clean the kids.
28:13And I learned how to do laundry, so we've managed to get by before she died.
28:17Joan told me to find another wife because Kim needed another woman she could trust and
28:21who would guide her, and I needed a companion too.
28:24I'm still looking and I'm still thinking about whether or not to ruin Chad's happy home.
28:28I'll let him sweat a little longer.
28:31Thank you for listening until the end.
28:34See you in the next episode of Cheating Secrets.
28:36Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
28:38Goodbye.
28:39Kim, who had been listening asked you still love.
28:42Mom dad.
28:43I've always loved your mom sweetheart.
28:45It's just that something happened that made it so I couldn't live here anymore.
28:48But I might have to come back to help your mom for a while.
28:52I hugged them both before they went off to their rooms.
28:55After they left, I poured myself a drink and sat in front of the TV for a while, staring
28:59at the empty screen.
29:01Yes, I would have to come back home if she's dying.
29:05She won't be able to take care of the house and the kids.
29:08We would need to talk tomorrow before the kids came home to sort out the living arrangements.
29:12I thought there had to be a connection between her affair and the news that her life was
29:15coming to an end.
29:17Maybe I would finally learn the why I had an endless list of things to do, including
29:21canceling the divorce proceedings.
29:24There was no point in divorcing someone who was terminally ill.
29:27I would also have to give up the apartment.
29:28God, why didn't she tell me?
29:32Why keep this a secret?
29:33We could have figured something out thinking about her about our 15 years together and
29:37the fact that I might lose her.
29:39I felt a deep sadness.
29:41Maybe it was the alcohol, but it was as if a wave of grief suddenly washed over me.
29:46It had been such a stressful day and the way it ended must have been too much, because
29:49I felt tears running down my cheeks in my rush for revenge.
29:53I had pushed forward without talking to her or facing her directly.
29:57Now I would have to take the time to find out why there was nowhere else for us to go
30:00if she only had a few weeks left to live her actions breaking our wedding vows meant I
30:04didn't have to uphold my commitments to our marriage, but I couldn't abandon her.
30:08Now I still had responsibilities as a person and a parent.
30:12The next morning I got up early and got the kids ready for school.
30:15Kim was excited about seeing her mom when she got home from school.
30:18Do you know how mom's feeling this morning?
30:21Dad?
30:22I haven't had time to call yet, sweetheart, but I'm sure if there were a problem they
30:25would have called us.
30:27Are you all set for school?
30:28Yeah, my backpack is ready.
30:30Good.
30:31The bus will be here in a few minutes.
30:33Are you all set, Jay?
30:35Yeah, I'm ready, alright.
30:37See you later, have a good day.
30:39When they left, I stood on the porch watching as the bus pulled up and then went back into
30:43the house before picking up Joan.
30:45I needed to bring my things back home, so I called the truck rental and booked the same
30:49truck.
30:50They promised to have it ready.
30:52When I arrived, I called the hospital and asked for Joan Room.
30:55She was having breakfast when I called, but she started crying as soon as she heard my
30:59voice.
31:00Oh, Frank, I'm so sorry, can we talk?
31:02I'll pick you up around noon.
31:05Joan I have something to take care of first, and when we get home we can talk.
31:09Oh, yes.
31:11The doctor said I can go home this morning, I'm so sore.
31:15Save it until we're home.
31:16Joan I'll see you later.
31:18I gently interrupted alright, I heard in a faint, tearful voice, I put on my work clothes
31:22and headed to U-Ha to get the truck.
31:25It took me just under two hours to move my things back home.
31:28Then I took a shower, changed clothes again, and returned the truck.
31:32After that, I took my car and drove to the hospital.
31:36Joan was waiting for me, dressed and sitting in a wheelchair in the hospital lobby.
31:40Her parents were with her and I was shocked by her appearance.
31:44Since I had seen her the morning before, she looked as if she had aged ten years.
31:48Her eyes were red and swollen from crying, and her complexion had turned almost a greyish
31:52yell.
31:53However, I made myself refrain from hugging her.
31:58Are you ready to go?
32:00Yes.
32:01They discharged me just a little while ago.
32:03I was just waiting for you, she sobbed.
32:06Then, let's go, I said, with some kindness in my voice, as I didn't want her to start
32:11a scene in the hospital lobby.
32:13Let's go home.
32:14At that moment.
32:16Sam spoke up she's our daughter but she's your wife and we gave her to you in marriage.
32:20If your marriage is over we'd like her to come back to us.
32:23I hear you.
32:24Sam and I acknowledge my responsibilities as a husband, even though your daughter broke
32:28our marital contract.
32:30We'll talk when we get home, and I'll let you know all right.
32:33Frank, if you go get your car I'll bring Joan out.
32:36When you get back, thank you, I replied, running outside to get my car later.
32:42As we were driving home, Joe started speaking.
32:45Frank, I'm so sorry, I know there's nothing I can say to show you how much I regret this.
32:50Joan, why don't you wait until we get home, we'll have time to talk before the kids get
32:54back.
32:56Are you going to throw me out?
32:58Frank, no.
33:00If you're as sick as your father says we'll stay together.
33:03This is going to be very hard for Jeremy and Kim.
33:06I've already told them we're separating but I didn't explain why.
33:09I rented an apartment and moved out yesterday.
33:12But this morning I came back home.
33:14I think the most important thing you'll need to explain to me is why, why did you do this?
33:19And why did you do things with Chad that you never did with me?
33:22I think I deserve an answer and when we get home, I want you to tell me why.
33:27If your father didn't tell you, I hired a private detective and I have his report with
33:31photos, videos and audio recordings of you meeting with Chad in our guest room so you
33:35can't say anything to deny the affair.
33:38Joan just sat in the passenger seat, her head down, quietly crying.
33:42Alright Frank, I'll try to explain.
33:45We drove in silence except for her sobbing until we got home.
33:48I helped her inside and up to our bedroom, where she said she wanted to take a shower
33:52and change before we sat down to talk.
33:55While she did that, I prepared us some soup and sandwiches for lunch after.
34:00Lunch we sat at the kitchen table facing each other.
34:03Go ahead, Joan, I want to hear it now before the kids get home.
34:07Alright I don't know if you remember, but about three months ago I started having stomach
34:11pains which I thought were indigestion or heartburn.
34:15Well...
34:17After a couple of weeks when the pain didn't stop and I couldn't relieve it with antacids,
34:21I went to our family doctor and he sent me for tests and a CT scan.
34:25I did all of this without telling you because I didn't want to worry you or the kids unnecessarily.
34:31My job allows me to leave the office during work hours and I took advantage of that.
34:35When he got the results he arranged for me to see a specialist.
34:38The specialist ran more tests and eventually told me that I had pancreatic cancer and that
34:42there wasn't much they could do for me.
34:44He said it was caught too late for treatment to be effective and that I only had a few
34:48weeks left to live.
34:50I was finally going to tell you this Saturday.
34:52It killed me to think that I would be leaving you Jeremy and Kim.
34:56I didn't know what to do or how to tell you or the kids.
34:59One thing that kept running through my mind was that I was still so young and hadn't truly
35:03lived yet, sometimes.
35:06When you weren't around I would go on adult websites and watch some of the sexual activities
35:10that really turned me on.
35:12I always wanted to try some of them but I never told you because I was afraid you would
35:15lose respect for me.
35:17I wanted your memory of me to remain untarnished by thoughts that I was some kind of pervert,
35:22so.
35:24I was in a terrible dilemma and my judgment was clouded by the thought that my time was
35:28running out fast.
35:30I wanted to experience being in adulterous rest before I died and I should have talked
35:33to you, but I didn't want you to remember me that way.
35:37I knew Chad was into adult films because I once overheard him talking with a couple of
35:40other guys in the office when they didn't know I could hear them.
35:43One day I worked up the courage and asked him about it and he admitted that he had a
35:46bunch of videos.
35:48He could show me so.
35:50One afternoon we went to his place and he played some X-rated videos.
35:54They aroused me so much that we ended up doing it.
35:57It wasn't as good as I had hoped and not nearly as good as when we were together.
36:01But I kept hoping it would get better.
36:03We even did it in our guest room a couple of times.
36:06As you know, I would never let him in our bed.
36:09The last time we did it in the guest room.
36:12I tried to make it as good as what I had seen in the videos, but I couldn't enjoy it and
36:16I finally realized it would never get better.
36:18So I ended things with him.
36:20I know I acted terribly selfishly, not thinking about you or our children, my only.
36:26Excuse is that when I found out I only had a few weeks or months to live, my mind went
36:30blank and I could only think about myself.
36:33Now I want to sincerely apologize and ask for the chance to return home and spend the
36:36rest of my time with my family.
36:39I will never be able to make up for what I've done and I have no right to expect you to
36:42forgive me, but I still hope that one day you might.
36:45I know the respect you had for me, which I tried so hard to preserve, is completely
36:50gone because of my actions.
36:52When I started the affair, I hoped I could act like an adulterers and keep it a secret
36:57because I knew if you found out you would leave.
36:59I'm ready to accept any punishment you deem fit because I need to cleanse my soul of the
37:04sins I've committed.
37:05You are the only one I love and respect more than anything in the world and I need your
37:09punishment as my absolution.
37:11I sat there for a few minutes looking at her.
37:14After she finished, she lowered her head staring at the table waiting for my response.
37:19Finally, I decided what I had to say in response to her confession.
37:25Joan I'm so disappointed by what you did and by the fact that you didn't come to me completely
37:29shutting me out of your thoughts and your life.
37:31I can.
37:34Understand the shock of being told about your impending death, but cutting me off completely
37:38because you wanted to do something you were afraid I would find offensive is beyond my
37:42understanding.
37:43I would have agreed to anything you wanted, my love for.
37:46You would have outweighed any thoughts of holding back from anything you needed.
37:49I'm your husband and when we married we became one with love as the binding force holding
37:53us together.
37:54I should have been there to support you in everything you wanted to do.
37:58It seems almost funny now, but during our marriage I wanted to try different kinds of
38:01sex with you but I was afraid you would reject me and lose respect for me.
38:06Now I know we had the same desires, but we never told each other and this is where it
38:09has led us as they say that's all water under the bridge now.
38:13And yes, I want you to stay here at home with us for as long as possible.
38:17You made a terrible mistake what I'm struggling to forgive.
38:20But now I understand the reason behind your actions a little better and maybe that will
38:24help me cope with it.
38:25Perhaps you should sleep in the guest room until the dust settles a bit.
38:28I'll probably.
38:29I need to hire someone to come in and do the laundry, cooking, cleaning and so on.
38:35We might eventually have to convert the dining room into a bedroom for you when you're no
38:38longer able to climb the stairs, but I'll take care of that later.
38:43Frank, I appreciate being here with my family and I'll try not to be a burden.
38:49I don't want you to think that you'll be a burden.
38:52This is our responsibility and we will do everything necessary to support you.
38:56You're my wife and you're their mother and nothing, neither time nor money will be wasted.
39:02Thank you dear, she said gently reaching across the table to take my hand.
39:05When the kids find out about your condition, it will be hard for them.
