00:53As the afternoon rolled around, guests began to gather in the various lounges and bars of the

00:58hotel where the event was due to take place. However, Emma was still nowhere to be seen.

01:04Meanwhile, Jenna sat down in one of the bars, carefully looking at the people milling around

01:10her. Sol sat next to her and her makeup artist carefully scanned her face to see if she needed

01:16any touch-ups. Perfect! The makeup artist exclaimed, putting the brush she had been

01:23holding back into her bag and leaving the room. Sol slowly looked Jenna over and admired the way

01:31her looks had been softened. She certainly looks angelic, he thought, letting a sly smile creep

01:37across his face. It's a good thing I know better than to be fooled by that face. Remember what I

01:44said? He told her, keep your mouth shut and smile. Sol obviously knew the schedule for the product

01:52launch, and he was well aware that Emma had come up with a novel way to reveal the new perfume.

01:59He planned to use this information to undermine her. He had already paid someone to tamper with

02:05the big reveal. He also assumed that Emma hadn't turned up yet because she was determined to make

02:12a much grander entrance towards the end of the evening. Models don't miss out on opportunities

02:18like this. Sol thought he didn't realize that Emma had no interest in drawing attention to

02:23herself at all. In fact, she had arrived at the hotel early in an effort to avoid drawing attention

02:30to herself to one side of the stage. Emma and Eric sat hidden in the crowd. Eric's position

02:37allowed him to shield her from any onlookers. If anybody did happen to glance at them,

02:42they may have even mistaken them for hotel staff in their nondescript clothes.

02:48You're really not going up there, Eric whispered, nodding toward the stage. This was the jewel in

02:55the crown of Miller Corsier, and his wife had planned most of the event. He knew Emma wasn't

03:01the type of person who sought the limelight just for the sake of it, but he didn't want someone

03:06else to get all the praise for her hard work either. Our baby's more important than this.

03:12Emma gently patted her stomach and grinned at her husband. Eric returned the grin and marveled

03:19at how lucky he was to be married to such a level-headed, talented, and beautiful woman.

03:26Ever since, Jenna and Jeff had talked about splitting the family assets.

03:31Jenna had suddenly transformed into the model granddaughter. However, her grandfather was well

03:37aware that something was up. In fact, he was beginning to suspect that someone else was

03:43pulling her strings behind the scenes. It wouldn't be the first time, Jeff thought,

03:49thinking back to all the scheming she had done with Linda in the past. I wonder who's controlling

03:55her now. Soon enough, famous people from a variety of industries arrived at the hotel

04:01for the product launch, including several celebrities. After walking the red carpet

04:08and engaging with the fans who had turned up to see them, they made their way to their seats.

04:14Of course, the majority of fans were there to see Emma and Pete McMillan. Many of them marveled at

04:20how handsome he was and screamed their appreciation. Others wondered where Emma was,

04:27as they huddled under the shelter that she had arranged for them when rain looked likely.

04:32Reassurances that she wouldn't miss such an important family event fluttered around the

04:38crowds. As it was a family affair, both Peter and Olivia had put aside their work commitments to

04:44attend. Much to everyone's surprise, Emma was still nowhere to be seen. The host soon appeared

04:51on the grand stage and started introducing all of the guests inside the packed venue.

04:56Professionals from a number of industries were curious about the new product.

05:01There's Emma. Olivia discreetly asked Peter while the host was talking.

05:07No idea. Her brother responded with a shake of his head. It didn't make any sense for Emma to

05:13skip the event, but he'd never been an expert at what went on in Emma's head. Looking to the other

05:18side of him, he saw Jenna in the seat next to him and quickly turned away, in disgust.

05:25Seeing how her brother had reacted, Olivia nudged him.

05:30Behave. Grandfather doesn't need any more trouble.

05:34Peter responded with a sigh, so she allowed herself to relax, while Jenna fixed her smile

05:40even more firmly on her face and continued to stare at the stage. As a giant in the perfume

05:46industry, Millercore has consistently wowed the world with its innovative creations,

05:53the host said. Before we reveal the newest addition to our collection, please allow the

05:58man behind our company's success to offer us a few words. Dressed in a well-tailored suit, Jeff

06:05walked onto the stage and looked out at the audience. In spite of the presence of his cane,

06:10he looked extremely sprightly. Ladies and gentlemen, this will be the last time I will

06:17attend our annual product launch, he said, then paused for a moment as chatter bubbled up around

06:23the audience. The perfume business is a young man's game. As you can see, I'm not exactly a young man

06:30anymore. Some of the more polite members of the audience laughed awkwardly, while other guests

06:37took the opportunity to speculate that Jenna was the reason that Emma wasn't there. Jenna listened

06:44to the discussions behind her and braided her teeth, trying to hide all the anger and resentment

06:50inside her. Come on. One man sitting behind her said, Jenna has to know that we would much rather

06:56have her sister here who wants beer when you can have champagne. That's enough, Jenna exclaimed,

07:03interrupting the event as she got to her feet and turned around. It's my turn to talk.

07:09Sode 514. The Family War Zone. Saul looked on in disapproval as Jenna stood up. I wish she was

07:18more like her sister, thought. Even when people were wrongly accusing Emma of killing Margot,

07:24she just sat back and let the situation resolve itself. I back the wrong horse here.

07:30Jenna was never worth the effort. Let's wait until the launch is over and we can discuss it at home.

07:37Jeff pleaded with his granddaughter from the stage. He knew that she had been provoked,

07:43but this was neither the time nor the place for one of her outbursts. I can't stand this anymore,

07:49Jenna yelled. I've always been the one who put in the most effort in this family.

07:54I knew there was a responsibility to uphold the family name, so I worked hard to do exactly that.

08:01She paused for a moment and regarded the shocked people around her as if she was a leopard stalking

08:06its prey. Over the years, I've given everything I had to this business. In spite of that, the acting

08:14CO, my own sister, had me kicked out. She turned back to face her grandfather on the stage. I can

08:21just about deal with that, but what I can't stomach is everybody gossiping about me as if Emma is some

08:28sort of saint and I'm the devil. She's the one who waltzed into the company, undermined all of my

08:34hard work, and then got rid of me. Do you really think that's fair? Jeff could tell that Jenna had

08:41been wanting to say all of this for a long time. The insults and jibes had merely ignited her anger

08:47and brought it to the surface. Everyone in the room was focused on Jenna, including the incredibly

08:53frustrated soul. What the hell is wrong with her? He silently asked, does she have the slightest

09:00idea how crazy she looks? Since you're insisting on doing this here, I'll respond. Jeff finally said,

09:07you've always been arrogant and you were the one who continually compared yourself with Emma.

09:13Not me. What you failed to realize is that your sister cleared up after your many mistakes

09:20time and time again. That's not true, Jenna said, but her grandfather pressed on. Emma lied about

09:29her test scores when you were both at school together so you wouldn't be upset that she

09:34always did better than you. She left home and went into modeling because she didn't want to

09:39get in the way of your being involved in the business. I've worked so hard for this family

09:45over the years. Jenna responded, how many drops of perfume has Emma created? How many times has

09:52she actually gone down to the lab to see how smoothly things were running? She knows practically

09:58nothing about this industry, yet she's the one giving orders. Jeff sighed in an attempt to calm

10:05himself down. It was inconceivable to him that she was really trying to paint herself as the victim

10:11to all these people. If anybody else had been causing this kind of trouble, the issue would

10:17have been swiftly resolved by security, but her. Status as a member of the Miller family and her

10:24pregnancy were making them hang back. It wasn't as if she would leave without creating an even

10:30bigger scene either. Both Emma and Eric were sitting nearby and watching everything play out

10:36before them. He picked up her hand, hoping to offer her some comfort. Eric had some idea of Emma's life

10:44when she was younger, but he never knew just how much she had tried to accommodate her sister and

10:49her flaws. How much time has Emma actually spent with our family over the years? She barely has any

10:56time for you at all now that she's married. Jenna stated, pausing to look around at the rapt faces

11:03of the crowd around her. I would never have spoken up like this if you just considered how hurt I've

11:09been by all of this. The whole event had become a family war zone and Jenna was determined to get

11:15her point across. If Jeff didn't offer her an explanation, this situation could get even worse,

11:22as his granddaughter appeared to be acting like she had nothing left to lose.

11:27I just don't understand how you could treat me like this, she said. The host had intended to

11:33step in at this point and bring the event to an untimely close, but another voice suddenly spoke up.

11:39What don't you understand? Hundreds of heads turned to look for the speaker before they

11:44finally spotted Emma. Soon everyone was watching as she made her way onto the stage. Emma called

11:51for the audience to quiet down and the room became silent except for her emotional and unimpressed

11:57sister. You've always been sneaky. You wait around in the shadows and then jump out when you see an

12:05opportunity to snap something away from me, Jenna said. You really have no idea why you were fired

12:12from the company, Emma asked. She was in no mood to play games and cut straight to the point.

12:19I know why. Jenna responded, you felt threatened and wanted me out. Emma shook her head and then

12:26said, okay, I'll ask you a few questions about the company that you've supposedly devoted yourself to

12:31all these years. If you answer them honestly, I'll happily let you take over as CEO. Jenna folded her

12:39arms and pursed her lips. Fine, so you said that I don't fully understand the perfume business,

12:46but who really created Night Spirit for which you received an award in Switzerland?

12:52Jenna froze, noting her shocked expression. Jeff was also taken aback. He had been completely

13:00unaware that one of Jenna's greatest triumphs had come about through underhanded tactics.

13:06Jenna replied, fumbling for an answer. If it helps, I'll jog your memory. You stole the recipe

13:13for the blend from my notebook. If that was too long ago for you to remember, there was also that

13:18time when I found a way to make that year's fragrance last longer without it needing to be

13:23reapplied. You took credit for that too and made quite a name for yourself within the company.

13:30Emma continued to recount events where Jenna had stolen all the glory for other people's efforts.

13:36All the while, the audience squirmed in secondhand embarrassment at the weak defense
