01:42The debate took place less than two months from election day and hours before the first
01:46early ballots will begin to be mailed in parts of the country.
01:57Germany has announced stricter controls along its land borders with France, Belgium, the
02:01Netherlands, Denmark and Luxembourg to begin from next week and to last for a minimum of
02:06six months.
02:08These measures are being introduced as a last resort following a series of deadly knife
02:12attacks by migrants which sparked public fury and are largely seen as the catalyst
02:18to the far-right party gaining the most amounts of seats in state elections in Germany since
02:23the Second World War.
02:25The third East German state of Brandenburg is set to vote in just under two weeks and
02:30polls suggest that security is top priority amongst voters.
02:36Tighter controls at the Austrian, Swiss, Czech and Polish borders are already in place and
02:41the German government is hoping that by introducing these new stricter measures it can continue
02:46to return thousands of migrants at the border.
02:49However, experts are warning that the danger of the far-right is not just that they can
02:54get enough votes to govern alone, as this seems unlikely, but rather that parties on
02:58the left may begin to adopt far-right policies in a bid to claw back voters, especially ahead
03:04of the federal elections next year.

03:12Pope Francis flew to Singapore for the final leg of his trip through Asia, the longest
03:19and furthest of his papal trips and one of the lengthiest trips of any head of the Catholic
03:24Church.
03:25He's heading to the financial powerhouse and one of the world's wealthiest nations from
03:29Timor-Leste, which he visited to encourage as it struggles with poverty and high unemployment.
03:35Francis will be the second pope to ever visit Singapore, after a five-hour stopover by the
03:41late John Paul II in 1986.
03:45Singapore was originally part of Francis' travel plans to the region in 2020, but it
03:50was derailed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
03:54During the trip, he will meet with Singapore's Prime Minister and President, as well as other
03:58government officials.
04:00The highlight of his trip will be a public mass at the 55,000-seat National Stadium.
04:06He wrapped up his visit to Timor-Leste with a rally of the nation's young people, who
04:11make up the majority of the country's population of 1.3 million.
04:16Francis urged them to work together in forming the country's future and build upon the foundations
04:22of older generations who had secured their independence from Indonesia in 2002.
04:28During his visit, Francis drew a crowd of 600,000 people for a record-breaking mass,
04:33nearly half the country's population.
04:36During his tour through Asia, Francis also visited Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
04:44Over 140 Ukrainian drones targeted multiple Russian regions early Tuesday, killing at
04:50least one person.
04:52Just outside Moscow, one woman was reportedly killed as drones hit two residential buildings,
04:58according to Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyev.
05:02A video published by the Russian telegram channel MASH appeared to show a drone crashing
05:06into the building.
05:24Three people were injured in the attack, the Moscow governor said.
05:27The reported incident marks one of the largest drone attacks on Russian territory since it
05:32started its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
05:36Overall, Russia's defense ministry said it intercepted and destroyed 144 Ukrainian drones
05:42over nine Russian regions.
05:46This would be the second major Ukrainian drone attack on Russia this month.
05:50On 1 September, the Russian military said it intercepted 158 Ukrainian drones over more
05:56than a dozen regions.
06:03The European Commission has won two court cases against big tech companies Apple and
06:09Google.
06:11Apple will now have to return 13 billion euros in taxes to Ireland after the European Court
06:16of Justice revised a previous ruling and concluded that the US company did benefit from artificially
06:22low taxes between 1991 and 2014.
06:26Ireland granted Apple unlawful aid, which Ireland now has to recover.
06:33Few member states were relying on tax rulings and aggressive tax planning arrangements to
06:40become a more attractive destination for multinational investment.
06:45This harmed other member states and the European taxpayer, of course.
06:49This is the final judgment, but in a statement, Apple, whose European headquarters are in
06:54Ireland, still expressed disagreement and insisted that there has never been a special
06:59deal.
07:00The US company believes the Commission is now trying to retroactively change the rules
07:05and ignore that Apple was already paying taxes in the US.
07:09But for Oxfam, this is a case of tax justice that will help small companies, but above
07:14all citizens, that will benefit from recovering taxes.
07:17We are just talking about fair taxation.
07:21When a company like Apple paid 0.005 percent, this is unfair.
07:27There is no European citizens, maybe some billionaires, that pay so few taxes.
07:33So I think it's really an issue of eleven playing field.
07:39And I mean, we should pretend companies and also wealthiest individuals to pay more.
07:46These are not profit, then they go into investment.
07:50In the second case, the European Commission also won a judgment in its favor against Google
07:55shopping.
07:56The European Court of Justice ruled that the company favored their own services over their
08:01competition, abusing their dominant position in the market.
08:10Russia launched joint Navy drills with China that was announced by Russian President Vladimir
08:15Putin.
08:17He states the drills are an attempt to check Russia's combat readiness and to strengthen
08:22military cooperation with its allies.
08:26The Russian leader blames the United States for disrupting the balance of power in the

08:55naval exercises are the largest of their kind in three decades and will span the Pacific
09:01and Arctic Oceans, the Mediterranean, Caspian and Baltic Seas.
09:07The drills involve over 90,000 troops, more than 400 vessels at sea and 120 aircrafts
09:14and helicopters.
09:39This is the third year in a row that Vienna has been named the most livable city in the
09:43world for the Economist Intelligence Unit, taking into account many considerations falling
09:47into five categories of education, environment, healthcare, infrastructure and culture.
09:59When we talk about MRSA or even the Economist Intelligence Unit, I think these studies or
10:05these rankings are very comprehensively looking into factors such as the availability of green
10:12space or public transportation or the infrastructure in general.
10:18And I think as someone who lives here, Vienna ticks many boxes here and really is a very
10:24livable city, a city that just works very well.
10:27Vienna perfectly combines Northern European efficiency and Southern European lifestyle.
10:34And this lifestyle involves a very high degree of enjoyment.
10:39It's not so much a matter of what you can do here in the city, it's more a matter of
10:43what you want to do.
10:54It sounds simple, but I think the transit system actually is a really important part
10:59of it because it's really easy to get around.
11:06You can get basically anywhere from point A to point B within 30 minutes.
11:11Yeah, I mean, pastries are quite expensive, but it's not a primal need in life, you know,
11:19so food is quite expensive.
11:21That's the only thing that is kind of sad that Vienna could do better, but yeah, I'd
11:29say the best part is that you can just go out and stay out and it's safe and it's reachable.
