00:00Every month a bunch of new games release and every month Gameranx goes through, figures
00:06out which are best to at least pay attention to, and puts them together in a nice, easy
00:10to digest list.
00:11Hi folks, it's Falcon, and today on Gameranx, the video games releasing in September 2024
00:17you're going to hear about.
00:18Starting off with number 10, Harry Potter Quidditch Champions.
00:22Now I'm not one to get excited about a Harry Potter release, I'm not automatically sold
00:27on them.
00:28There are certainly good Harry Potter games, but one I actually look back on fondly is
00:32Quidditch World Cup.
00:34Now I don't know exactly how much of a direct predecessor this game is to that game, but
00:39it's interesting because the kind of Fortnite-y look Champions has actually kind of harkens
00:45back to World Cup a little bit.
00:47Honestly, this looks like a pretty fun game.
00:49You have all the different positions, chaser, seeker, beater, and keeper.
00:53It's the full-blown Quidditch experience, looks a little faster in pace than the old
00:58game, and also it's multiplayer, which is, I think, the biggest reason for this game
01:02to exist.
01:03Honestly, to me, it looks like some good, clean fun.
01:06It's coming to PlayStation and Xbox on September 3rd, and it will be landing on Nintendo Switch
01:11later, so keep your eyes peeled.
01:15At number 9 is Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.
01:17In all seriousness, how couldn't you want this?
01:20The original Dead Rising in RE Engine-powered glory.
01:25A totally absurd game that, from everything I've seen, they've gone out of their way to
01:29preserve all of the feel of, including the gameplay, which looks very familiar.
01:35Everyone who's played this game a lot looks at that gameplay and goes, oh, that's how
01:38it feels.
01:39At least to me, unless they're hiding something that shows it's not, it looks like pretty
01:44authentic Dead Rising gameplay.
01:46They've also given us a few additions, including a new voice actor for Frank West, and not
01:51because they just wanted to replace the original guy, but they wanted a lot more talking in
01:55the game.
01:56Any conversation that was previously just text in the original version of the game now
02:01has voice acting, which I think is awesome, actually.
02:05But besides that, they've added the ability to save any time in infinity mode, which is
02:10a welcome addition.
02:11But one thing they have absolutely preserved is how everybody moves in this game, which
02:16is very old and arcade-y looking, and I couldn't be happier about that.
02:20Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered is coming to PS5, Xbox Series, and PC September 19th.
02:27At number eight is Inotria, The Last Song.
02:30So this is a kind of interesting Souls-like, where a lot of Souls-likes and the Souls games
02:35themselves are portrayals of decay, worlds that are in decline, or already declined,
02:41and your mission is somehow sad, or not necessarily to restore the glory of what once was, but
02:48to prevent something worse, maybe.
02:51Inotria, The Last Song, I think, takes a novel approach just to the world itself in a Souls-like.
02:56This is a world that is alive.
02:59You see sunflowers everywhere in some of the shots, vibrant and pretty, although not necessarily
03:04full of life.
03:05We don't see the kind of decay we're normally accustomed to in a Souls-like, though.
03:09The thing that's going on is there's basically a magical, evil stasis that is holding the
03:14world in place.
03:15Your whole thing is you're set now to end this stasis.
03:19I'm sure that there are some people who don't mind the stasis, so they're gonna try to stop you.
03:23This game is heavily inspired by Italian folklore, particularly in location, and I gotta say
03:29everything I've seen of it is very pretty.
03:30The sun lights everything in a very striking way.
03:34Inotria, The Last Song is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series September 19th.
03:40At number 7 is Astro Bot.
03:42This is a game I'm actually fairly excited for.
03:45It probably sounds silly, but if you remember the Astro Bot sort of VR games for PlayStation
03:50VR, they're pretty damn good platformers, even though they're not necessarily full-blown
03:56games.
03:57They're kind of, in some ways, tech demos and tutorials and ways of introducing you
04:00to the PlayStation VR headset.
04:03That being said, they're actually really fun.
04:05They play more like a traditional platformer than a VR game, but they do things that sort
04:10of show you functions of VR.
04:12I like them, but I'm more excited for this than I would've ever been for another VR Astro
04:18Bot game.
04:19Astro Bot, the game, is an 80-level 3D platformer.
04:24It's a full game.
04:25It's four times the length of Astro's Playroom, and the thing that's fun about this franchise
04:30is it's kind of a celebration of PlayStation.
04:33At least the VR games were, and from every indication, it seems like a lot of it is here.
04:38Astro Bot is, himself, supposed to look like PlayStation hardware, in certain ways at least.
04:43In the same way the older games were meant to show off the PSVR, this one is, I mean,
04:48to a lesser extent, of course, intended to show you various features from the new DualSense
04:53controller.
04:54Although, I'll say, we're years into using the DualSense controller.
04:56I don't think we need tutorializing or any pointing out of things it can do.
05:00Hopefully it uses the things the controller can do in interesting ways.
05:03I'm sure it will.
05:04Again, the previous two games were great.
05:06They were way better than they had any right to be, and I'm kind of looking forward to
05:10a game game of it, like a full-ass Astro Bot game.
05:14I love platformers.
05:15I love 3D platformers.
05:16The mechanics are gonna be similar to Rescue Mission, where you have various bots you have
05:20to rescue in each of the levels.
05:22I'm completely on board for a full Astro game, so I will definitely be picking this up for
05:26the PS5 when it lands September 6th.
05:29At number six is Zookosis.
05:31Hey, what if you crossed a zoo with The Thing?
05:34Well, you get Zookosis.
05:36It's a game in which you play as a night zookeeper tasked with taking care of a bunch of animals
05:42that get infected with an alien menace and try to kill you.
05:45A lot of what you're trying to do here is to save the animals, but I would guess that
05:50a lot of the game revolves around trying to save yourself from the animals.
05:54It's a striking-looking game.
05:57You never really see animal body horror, at least not in video games.
06:01I'm sure you can find plenty of it if you really want to, but I really haven't seen
06:05a game that looks like this or is trying to do what this is trying to do.
06:09While the setup might sound a little Five Nights at Freddy's-like, it's more of an FPS,
06:13and I don't mean shooter.
06:14I mean a first-person something.
06:16Until I actually play this one, I don't know if I want to categorize it as anything particularly
06:21specific.
06:22It is a very interesting-looking game, and I am very much looking forward to giving it
06:26a spin.
06:27It releases on PC September 23rd.
06:31At number five is Frostpunk 2, which if you're aware of the life consumer that Frostpunk
06:36can be, you'll be either extremely happy or dismayed that they have made it so that you
06:41can not only build a larger city, but now you have to do a lot more to keep your citizens
06:47happy.
06:48Actually, maybe happy's a stretch.
06:49It's Frostpunk.
06:50It's not really a game about the warm fuzzies by any means.
06:55It's kind of the opposite.
06:56It says so in both of the words that make up its name.
06:59But now you're building districts and doing negotiations and political wheelings and dealings
07:04with various factions.
07:06There's now a feature called the Council Hall, where a hundred members of the community who
07:10each represent a certain faction vote on stuff, and well, that sounds pretty different from
07:16the first game, actually.
07:18You're also going to be required to make promises about the future, and if you can or can't
07:22or don't uphold them, you can get in trouble with various people and factions.
07:28All in all, I think the potential for a deep narrative is actually a bit higher.
07:33Certainly there'll be political intrigue, and that trailer where they announce the game?
07:37Pretty dramatic, actually, although in perhaps a slightly different way than we're typically
07:41used to.
07:42Frostpunk is coming to PC on September 20th.
07:46It will be coming to Xbox Series and PS5 next year, but that's a ways off.
07:53At number four is The Casting of Frank Stone, which is a new game by the Until Dawn developers
07:59set in the world of Behavior Interactive's Dead by Daylight.
08:03Now this is an interesting crossover, in my opinion.
08:06You don't really see totally different genres of game tap into an IP that the developer
08:13has nothing to do with.
08:15What happened was Behavior Interactive had been wanting to make a single player narrative
08:19driven game in their universe, but just didn't have the experience, and according to Steve
08:23Goss of Supermassive, the game is going to feel familiar if you've played other Supermassive
08:29games, but quote, huge sections of the game will feel nothing like a traditional Supermassive
08:34game.
08:35That's very interesting to me because, I mean, we all know what a Supermassive game is at
08:38this point.
08:39So there's kind of a lot of new and different things here, even though you may not really
08:43think of them as that astoundingly different.
08:46Dead by Daylight has a pretty cool universe, at least in terms of its looks, but I'm excited
08:51to learn more about it, honestly.
08:52The Casting of Frank Stone is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series on September 3rd.
08:59At number three is The Legend of Zelda, Echoes of Wisdom.
09:02This is a game that puts you in control of Princess Zelda rather than Link, but it does
09:06have a very similar look to the Link's Awakening remake, which is, I think, a good thing because
09:12that was a fantastic game.
09:14And they're indicating with that look they wanted to play that way.
09:18And it looks like it does, of course, but Princess Zelda obviously has a different set
09:22of abilities, like the ability to bind objects.
09:25The way that works, once you've binded an object, it moves along with your movement
09:30as Zelda.
09:31Or the other way around, I imagine that there are instances where puzzles combine both types
09:37of binding.
09:38It's going to be interesting, for sure.
09:40It's obviously a Switch exclusive.
09:42It looks like a lot of fun, in my opinion.
09:44Obviously I'll take more Link's Awakening-style Zelda games.
09:48In a lot of ways, I kind of hoped that they would take that style and remake Link to the
09:53Past as well, maybe with time, maybe with interest in this game.
09:58Who knows?
09:59It's landing on Switch September 26th.
10:01At number two is Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown.
10:05Obviously the Test Drive series is known for big open worlds.
10:08I'm pretty excited about this one in particular.
10:11It features a one-to-one recreation of Hong Kong Island.
10:15And that means traffic is going to be on the opposite side of the road.
10:18It's never happened before in one of these games.
10:21The other two Test Drives are plain old American left-hand traffic, and I think that's friggin'
10:27cool.
10:28It's also going to be really annoying, I have a feeling, but right now I think it's really
10:31cool.
10:32They say they're going to make Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown to be like a competitor
10:37to Forza or The Crew, but also, and I don't know exactly how this fits in, the director
10:43also said additionally to those, it will be a competitor to Grand Theft Auto 6.
10:47I don't know how that's going to be the case.
10:50Test Drive really isn't Grand Theft Auto, but we'll see.
10:53I'm kind of just happy if it's another Test Drive game that doesn't depart too far from
10:58what makes Test Drive great.
11:00Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is coming to PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC September
11:0712th.
11:08And finally, at number one, we've said a lot about this.
11:11This is a big deal, Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2.
11:15Now obviously we're going to do plenty of content on this game.
11:18It's a sequel to a pretty damn good beloved game, and everything we've seen about it makes
11:24it seem like it's definitely going to be an improvement.
11:26They aren't playing the shove some random multiplayer mode down your throat.
11:31They're doing multiplayer that's similar to the old multiplayer, and they're doing co-op,
11:36and they've made some key changes to how the combat works, which is not necessarily making
11:41it easier.
11:42I suspect this game, like the previous game, are not going to be like tremendously hard,
11:46but the additions like expanding the melee combat, it's going to make the game more fun,
11:51and that's really the best element of it.
11:54The original Warhammer 40k Space Marine is a damn good hack and slash slash kind of shooter
11:59that looked a lot like Gears, but really wasn't a lot like Gears.
12:04There were elements that it shared in common with it, sure, but it is definitely not a
12:07game that emphasizes cover.
12:09You are a brute force lunatic in a huge space armor suit, and I cannot wait to jump back
12:15into that world with the same kind of gameplay, upgraded of course for modern stuff, in a
12:20way that doesn't endanger the game.
12:23I look at this, and there are some games where I think, ah, upgraded, modern, you're going
12:28to ruin what made the game, the game.
12:31Doesn't seem like that's happening here.
12:34Quality of life seems to be the primary stuff they've changed.
12:36Everything about it looks fun, it looks goofy in the way the original was, also dark, also
12:42epic.
12:43I mean, it's Warhammer 40k, and it's probably one of the most beloved Warhammer 40k video
12:48games that's ever been made, getting a sequel.
12:51Much later, might I add.
12:53It's been way too long.
12:54The game is landing on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC September 9th.
12:59I do have a couple of bonus for you as well.
13:02First off, it's Age of Mythology Retold, a full-blown remake of Age of Mythology, which
13:07was itself a spinoff of Age of Empires.
13:10In a lot of ways, it's retaining a lot of stuff from the original game, but they're
13:13adding some more modern features to keep it up with Age of Empires.
13:18The engine that they used to make Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition, the bang engine,
13:22is specifically what they built this one on top of, and it looks fantastic.
13:26I'm really excited, because Age of Mythology was a game I remember going back to and having
13:30a lot of fun.
13:31It wasn't a bad-looking game at the time, it's just obviously an old game and has quite
13:35a few limitations.
13:37From what I've seen, a lot of the animation of, for instance, the gods, doesn't have those
13:41limitations.
13:42I'm pretty excited to see the god powers, which by the way, now are actually multi-use
13:47and you get cooldowns, which I think is a definite improvement.
13:50The reason you're playing this game is the god powers, right?
13:52Age of Mythology is coming to Xbox Series and Windows September 4th.
13:57Next is NBA 2K25.
13:59Damned 2K games just keep looking more and more real.
14:03Man, this is a long and storied series.
14:06I remember playing the original NBA 2K on the Dreamcast and thinking, wow, a game can't
14:10look more realistic than this.
14:12Here we are about 25 years later.
14:14I'm still saying it.
14:15Obviously they keep looking more and more realistic, but these games always are just
14:19top of the line, at least with that.
14:22There are not a lot of major changes this year.
14:25A couple of the features introduced last year are being kept, like the Pro Play NBA footage
14:30to animation pipeline they have.
14:33It's interesting, but I will say it's not as big of a deal as it was last year, obviously.
14:38They are introducing various build cap changes, including something they're calling Legends
14:43Badges.
14:44The acceleration has been replaced with agility, and now you don't do stamina through the builder
14:50in my career.
14:51Now you have to work out in a Gatorade facility, which is, I think, kind of cool while at the
14:55same time clearly being an advertisement.
14:57They did remove the badge regression from NBA 2K24.
15:01I'm happy about that.
15:02That was annoying.
15:03Beyond that, this is obviously a yearly upgrade.
15:08Those I think changes are welcome ones, each of them, if not major.
15:12But what a beautiful NBA.
15:13But obviously, incredible looking game, always fun, you know?
15:18If you don't have last year's, this is a good one to get.
15:20It's landing on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and Windows on September 6th, and this will
15:24be the first year that the PC players get all of the features the console players get,
15:29so that's pretty cool.
15:30Moving on, we've got Epic Mickey Rebrushed.
15:32If you missed your chance to play this one back on the Wii, and a lot of people did because
15:37although the Wii was a highly popular console, a lot of the more serious gamers didn't really
15:41play games on it.
15:43This is a full-on remake.
15:45It has moved Epic Mickey away from the Gamebryo engine over to Unreal, and it's looking real
15:51nice.
15:52If you're not familiar, it's a different kind of Mickey game.
15:55For those not familiar, it was a Mickey in a dark Disney world type game, kind of like
16:01Castle of Illusion or Forest of Illusion.
16:04It has that kind of a vibe, except for it's obviously a lot more extensive with what it
16:07does with Disney properties.
16:09The world that Mickey goes to has a bunch of forgotten creations of Disney, and it's
16:14dark and it's quite epic, as the title suggests.
16:18It's a great game.
16:19There's also a big improvement, and I talked about this in the Lollipop Chainsaw remake
16:25point, but there's a big improvement on the camera.
16:27Here it's a much more vast improvement because it's not only that it's a new engine, they
16:32completely remade all the graphics, it's also a game that you will not be playing on a Wiimote
16:36and a Nunchuck.
16:38You had no way to control the camera in the original game, and I can't imagine going back
16:42to it.
16:43So I'm pretty excited about more traditional controls for it, control over the camera,
16:48and just jumping back into a really underappreciated classic.
16:52It's not like it did bad or anything, but it was released at a time when the Wii was
16:56not new and everyone is kind of moving over to HD powerful consoles.
17:01I'm just really looking forward to getting back into this game.
17:04It's landing on the Playstations, the Xboxes, the PC, and of course the Nintendo Switch
17:10on September 24th.
17:11Next is EA Sports FC 25.
17:14As you know, this is what FIFA is now, if you're wondering.
17:18It's a yearly update, but it's a little more comprehensive than the last one we talked
17:22about.
17:23The tactical system is getting a complete overhaul, so you get a couple of things changed
17:27here first.
17:28The player has more agency over team strategies.
17:31Also they're saying their AI is smarter, but I mean the proof is always in the pudding
17:34for that.
17:35They've also come up with this thing called player roles, so as a player you fit into
17:40a team strategy in a specific way based on what you choose here.
17:43That's interesting because normally you're kind of just this omnipresence.
17:48I'm not sure if that's going to play out great or not, we'll see.
17:50I think it's an interesting idea though.
17:52There's new play styles for goalies, and there's a 5v5 rush mode that they've added.
17:57I think that's fun.
17:58So honestly, I think this is probably worth it even if you're a skip a year person.
18:03The updates are more substantial than just a roster.
18:05EA Sports FC 25 is coming to the Playstations, the Xboxes, PC, and Nintendo Switch September
18:1227th.
18:13Next is Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, which includes Ace Attorney Investigations
18:18Miles Edgeworth and Ace Attorney Investigations 2 Prosecutors Gambit.
18:22Honestly, probably my favorite games in the series.
18:24I like Miles Edgeworth.
18:26I like the investigation mechanics.
18:28And I'm pretty happy to have access to these games, legitimately speaking, on both the
18:33PC and the Nintendo Switch.
18:34You can get it, of course, on the Xbox and PlayStation platforms as well.
18:39I will probably be getting it for the PC.
18:42Maybe the Switch.
18:43I have some traveling in my near future and that sounds like a lot of fun.
18:47There is a demo of this available and the save data will transfer over to the full game.
18:52I think always a very good way to go.
18:55If you can't wait until September 6th, that's available right now.
18:59Another cool one coming up is Lollipop Chainsaw Repop, the remaster of Lollipop Chainsaw,
19:05which is a pretty damn fun game.
19:07Some of the best things I think that they're adding for the remaster is improving the camera
19:11for the chainsaw action.
19:13I think that's really always something that people should be thinking about when they
19:16remaster a game.
19:18Were there problems with the camera and can we fix them?
19:20I know that sounds really obvious, but a lot of remasters aren't like full recodes
19:26or full graphic replacements.
19:29The fact is, regardless of if you're doing that or not, you can improve things like the
19:33camera.
19:34It's not that Lollipop Chainsaw ever had the worst camera and it never really did, but
19:37that's the kind of improvement I always like to hear about.
19:40Stuff that, I mean, if it works, you're not even going to really notice that it's improved
19:44because you're immersed in the game.
19:46It's one of those quality of life things.
19:48I like that stuff.
19:49It was originally going to be a full remake, but it ended up being a remaster.
19:52And honestly, I'm kind of happy about that.
19:53I didn't really want a remake.
19:55The more it's like the original, but with just some quality of life stuff, the more
19:58happy I am about it.
20:00Lollipop Chainsaw Repop is landing on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC for the first
20:07time on PC.
20:09Was going to be September 25th, but it got moved up to September 12th.
20:13Hell yeah.
20:14It's called Starfield Shattered Space, a Starfield DLC that's actually, I think, going
20:19to make the game a lot more interesting.
20:21You got new enemy factions, new bosses, new weapons, new armor, new planets, and what
20:27they're calling the car mech system, which is mechs with the combat abilities of mechs,
20:33but the speed and maneuverability of cars.
20:36I'm interested to see how that plays.
20:39It looks fun, but that's landing on PC and Xbox Series on September 30th.
20:44Final Fantasy XVI is landing on the PC, and I am so excited.
20:48I love Final Fantasy XVI.
20:50It's like an extremely long Devil May Cry game with a plot like Game of Thrones that
20:55doesn't suck.
20:57The end of Game of Thrones makes the plot kind of suck, so it's whatever.
21:01Characters are great.
21:02Battling is great.
21:03I love any game that's inspired by Devil May Cry, but it's not just inspired by it.
21:07Platinum Games actually worked on it, but I'm kind of excited to play it on PC because
21:11Honestly, that's where I wanted to play it in the first place.
21:14It's a game that I think a really beefy PC is going to benefit quite a bit.
21:19Not that it runs bad on PS5 or anything, but I just have a feeling it's going to be good.
21:23I'm excited to play it again.
21:25I'm definitely going to on September 17th when it comes out.
21:28That's probably going to occupy another week of my life again.
21:31And finally, and this is a big one for me as well, God of War Ragnarok is landing on
21:35PC.
21:36I love the God of War reboot series.
21:38They're both really good games.
21:40And this is another one where I've thought, you know, it's really going to be good to
21:44go through this on PC when it comes out because they did an actually pretty damn good job
21:48with the first God of War port, and it stands to reason that they will do the same here.
21:53That one's landing on PC September 19th.
21:56And that's all for today.
