00:00Don't look now, but the cost of the nation's staple food item has begun to slide.
00:04Still, the latest rice prices for imported grains show as much as five pesos shaved off
00:10per kilo from the old numbers. Meanwhile, the cost of local rice fell by an average of two
00:15pesos per regular, well-milled, and premium varieties from three months back before the
00:21directive on lower tariffs on imported rice kicked in. For its part, the Department of Agriculture
00:28assures the gradual slide in rice prices will continue as a result of ramped-up local production
00:34and the effects of lower tariffs on imported rice. This asks the Department of Agriculture
00:40to sustain its delivery of free inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and farming supplies
00:45to boost production.
