00:00I'm not going to let you get out of here without playing The Bachelor.
00:06David Banner's looking for his wife.
00:09What does that mean?
00:10Oh yeah, man.
00:11I don't know.
00:12I love people for who they are.
00:15My mom told me that.
00:16My mom said one thing that she liked about me is I've never brought the same woman in
00:20her house before.
00:23I try to find God in everybody.
00:26The only reason why I made that statement, man, to be honest with you, it wasn't forbading
00:30or none of those things.
00:32It's just that my therapist told me, he said, David Banner, you're always talking about
00:36the people.
00:37The people.
00:38What you want to see for black people.
00:39He said, but you don't treat yourself like that.
00:42Like, bro, think about all the success that I've been able to have in my life, bro.
00:47But I don't have just about any of the things that matter the most.
00:50The things that matter the most are for free, but you usually only get one of them.
00:55I've always wanted children, bro.
00:57I've always been one of the few people, bro, that wanted a family.
01:01You know, and all those things.
01:02And I've gotten just about everything else I've wanted in my life, except those things
01:07that really matter, bro.
01:08And if I die and don't have children, bro, I think I failed the reason why we're here
01:13to exist.
01:15We talk all of that stuff, but we are here to keep God's image.
01:21And I think all of us together, if we were combined and could put all our faces together,
01:26that would be God.
01:28And if I don't allow my children to be on this planet, bro, then I die when I die.
01:35You know, having children, having somebody else.
01:38And I also think, man, like, I wrote this short poem one time, I said that I chased
01:45my dreams so hard that when I finally raised my head, I realized I ran off and left everything
01:50else.
01:51Hard as we work.
01:53You know, your nephews or, you know, my mama or her cousin, as soon as I die, come take
01:58all that stuff for free.
02:00But unless I have children, bro, unless I'm able to pass something on, then that matters.
02:07I just want to say this to black men.
02:11Who you choose as your wife, bro, especially if you successful, can change the whole lifeline
02:18of somebody else's lineage, bro.
02:22It's like we work so hard to become all of these things and then we give it away.
02:27I think, you know, without responsibility, bro.
02:31And I don't mean just the cars and the houses.
02:34I mean, your DNA, bro.
02:37One thing I thought about, man, maybe I'm a deep thinker.
02:40Big Daddy Kane told me to stop worrying about overthinking.
02:42He said, most people don't think at all.
02:45So he said, Ben, I'm glad you overthink.
02:47But I think about this, man, for our DNA to be so strong, even from a sports perspective,
02:53we're not even talking about a mental, a spiritual perspective.
02:57We irresponsibly give it away to groups of people who historically have never cared about
03:04us, bro.
03:05And so when I make that statement, I want y'all to know that I'm saying that statement
03:09with responsibility.
03:11And I also want people to know that we're human.
03:14I'll leave y'all with this, bro.
03:16Luke told me one time, he said, Benner, bro, I really respect you and, bro, I really thank
03:21you.
03:22And I said, why?
03:23He said, you are one of the only people on this planet that ever called me and asked
03:26me how I'm doing.
03:28And I said, oh, you know why I do that?
03:30He said, why?
03:31I said, because don't nobody ever call me and ask me how I'm doing.
03:35So when I say those kind of things, I just try to put out to people that we still human,
03:39that we still hurt, and that we still, you know, long for things that people long for
03:44each and every day, bro.
03:46And I really, really appreciate your interview.
03:49I really appreciate the questions that you ask, bro.
03:54And bro, continue to grow, man.
03:56And we need people like you out here in media, man.
03:58Keep going.
03:59And somebody told me once, dawg, they said, it's not, you know, what people think about
04:03you in five years and what they think about you in 20 years is what they'll think about
04:07you in 200 years if they even know you existed.
