00:00Football isn't what you think it is.
00:04From a secret 2 point line to a billion dollar controversy, these are 20 things you didn't
00:10know about football.
00:11And at number 20, I bet you didn't know that football mascots make more money than
00:16doctors.
00:17Whether it's Gunnasaurus Rex, Man-Use Demon, or even dude dressed as a giant ball sack,
00:23these aren't just sweaty grown men wearing costumes or playing with their wood in public
00:27for no reason.
00:28They're entertaining fans because they make $400, $500, sometimes even $600,000 a year.
00:34But even that much money won't get you out of jail, like the players who wore illegal
00:38accessories at number 19.
00:40There's a lot of things that football players can't wear.
00:44All black jerseys, banned.
00:46Any players who wear chains, get them snatched.
00:49Even Gucci headbands get players fined every single time they wear them.
00:53And no consequence is scarier than when David Beckham wore cleats designed with kangaroo
00:59leather because where he played football in California, their laws say owning any products
01:04made from kangaroos could have you facing a $5,000 fine and 6 months in jail.
01:10So Beckham made his cleats disappear because even he wanted to win the most expensive trophy
01:15in sports history at number 18.
01:18See, football champions are treated way more luxurious than other athletes.
01:23Yeah, NFL champs get the little silver trophy that's worth around $4k.
01:27NBA finals winners get something golden that's $13k.
01:31At least hockey's doing it big for their Stanley Cup winners, a trophy that costs $25k.
01:36But standing at 15 inches tall, weighing in at 13 pounds of solid gold and rare minerals,
01:43the World Cup trophy just became the most expensive award of any sport ever worth over
01:48$20 million dollars.
01:51Wait a minute, that's gotta be capped.
01:53Let me google this.
01:54Holy shit, it's really worth 20 M's.
01:56Now I see why players try cheating to be good enough to win it.
01:59And I bet you didn't know about football's banned moves at number 17.
02:03Like, you can't even give head in football.
02:06Whether it's the seal dribble like this, or the neck stall like this, neither are allowed.
02:12There's even moves where players try looking pregnant by pulling out the shirt catch.
02:16And one where players turn into animals with the donkey kick free kick.
02:20But once players kept doing all those moves and started getting injured by opponents who
02:24thought they were only trying to showboat, football officials cracked down on them and
02:29the moves were banned.
02:31Now at least vehicles aren't banned from football.
02:34Cause at number 16, I bet you didn't know that going pro gets you free cars.
02:39You see, car companies are now sponsoring some of football's biggest clubs and dropping
02:44off custom whips for the whole squad.
02:46Audi's been delivering to Barcelona players and even let them speed the cars around a
02:51track.
02:55But BMW did things even more expensive for Real Madrid.
02:59Cause not only did each player get a car with a custom license plate, they got to have photo
03:03shoots with the whips.
03:05And each player got a brand new parking spot with a charging station.
03:08Now cars are cool and all, but at number 15, I bet you didn't know that animals used
03:14to be a part of football.
03:16Kangaroos used to hop around in games.
03:19And so did cats, dogs, even cocks, I mean roosters.
03:24But things didn't become controversial until a football club let a grizzly bear on the
03:29field.
03:35That ceremony had football beefing with PETA cause they claimed having a bear performing
03:40was inhumane.
03:41But it's Russia, so they don't give a shit what anybody says.
03:45They even let the bear come celebrate the team's win in traffic.
03:54Only in Russia, man.
03:55But only in football is there a curse that ruins players' lives.
03:59At number 14, if you ever get picked to join Chelsea, do not.
04:04I repeat, do not pick the number 9.
04:07For 20 years, every single player who wore a 9 has fallen off.
04:12Romelu Lukaku, a player who just had the best seasons of his career, chose the number, then
04:18instantly had the worst season of his career.
04:24So when Chelsea announced a new star Aubameyang was filling his spot and wearing number 9,
04:30all the fans freaked out in the comments.
04:33Even Chelsea's own manager admitted the curse was real.
04:36But Aubameyang admitted he only chose the number to break the curse.
04:53Now you wanna know what's crazier than something ruining players' careers?
04:57A controversy that cost FIFA billions at number 13.
05:01I hate to break it to you guys, but the game most of us love is coming to an end.
05:10Even though FIFA dominated sports gaming and made over 20 billion dollars, their developers
05:16EA Sports always wanted to make a bigger and better game, but FIFA wouldn't allow it.
05:22So EA ended their partnership with FIFA and announced they're creating their own game.
05:27EA Sports FC.
05:29This game's gonna be on a whole new level.
05:32Brand new game modes, online career, customizable characters, even free roam like 2K.
05:37EA's even given us ways to unlock exclusive NFTs.
05:41So let's just hope they don't make Mbappe the cover again.
05:44Like really FIFA?
05:46Three years in a row?
05:47Shakin' my head man.
05:48But speaking of Mr. Ninja Turtle, I bet you didn't know about one of the craziest records
05:53in football history at number 12.
05:56Just watch this.
06:05During that goal, Mbappe was clock speeding 23.61 miles an hour.
06:10That's faster than people are legally allowed to drive around schools.
06:13But comparing that to the fastest person in the world, Usain Bolt, Mbappe's speed is
06:18actually faster than Usain's average in his world record 100 meter dash.
06:23So uh, side by side, looks like Mbappe just officially became a record holder, but that
06:28was only one sprint.
06:30I already know you've wondered how far football players run throughout an entire game or an
06:34entire career, and Lionel Messi's got us covered on that at number 11.
06:39Messi installed a microchip in his cleat to track the distance he traveled during a match.
06:43Yeah, the majority of the time he was being a lazy ass and walking, but combining that
06:48with Messi's jogs, runs, and sprints, had him covering around 8.5 kilometers or 5 miles
06:54in a single match.
06:56But Messi's played over a thousand matches, so that means he's ran over 5,000 miles.
07:01These football players are built different, man, Jesus Christ.
07:04But now that we're getting into the top 10 things you didn't know about football,
07:08it's about to get crazy.
07:10Like, what if I told you some of the biggest football clubs in the world tried ruining
07:15the sport?
07:1612 of the world's top teams, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool, the Manchesters, pretty
07:25much everybody actually relevant, alright, did something crazy out of nowhere.
07:29It was announced that all of them agreed to leave their countries and form the European
07:34Super League.
07:35Now, at first I was like, this is hype, I mean, all the biggest names in football constantly
07:40playing each other, and it would be extra competitive?
07:43The winner of the league would earn $470 million.
07:46It seemed like an insane idea on paper.
07:48But within hours of the announcement, fans around the world caused absolute chaos.
07:54It's about time that somebody spoke up about the parasites in this club.
08:03Non-stop riots, fans literally breaking into stadiums, everybody was pissed because their
08:08favorite clubs would be playing all the way across the world, and fans felt that owners
08:12only cared about money the league was going to make and not about them.
08:15But everyone wiling out actually made a huge difference, because within a few days the
08:21Super League turned into a super fail, and the entire move was cancelled.
08:26I want to apologize to all the fan supporters of Liverpool Football Club for the disruption
08:31I caused over the past 48 hours.
08:34Damn, the fans really overthrew the football government.
08:37But that many people coming together got me wondering, just how popular is football compared
08:42to other sports?
08:44Well at number 9, take a look at this map.
08:47Any country that's light grey watches football over everything.
08:50So unless you're from China, Australia, Canada, or the US, chances are I know what
08:55your favorite sport is.
08:56But let's bring some numbers into this.
08:59As we go up the list, you can see the estimated fans of each sport start popping up.
09:04We got baseball with about 500 million fans, basketball with 700 million, hell at least
09:10hockey and cricket topped a billion.
09:12But at the very top, we got football, with an estimated 3.6 billion fans worldwide.
09:19God damn, that's nearly half the population of the f***ing planet.
09:23Now I see why a player like Ronaldo is the most famous person on Instagram.
09:28But I bet you didn't know there's a football rule named after him.
09:31At number 8, the Ronaldo rule ain't actually a good thing though.
09:35It happened because of his return to Man United, where even though he was expected
09:42to be a star, his ego caused issues with his teammates, playing like ass got him benched,
09:48and Ronaldo's contract that racked in $500,000 a week, a whole other level compared to his
09:54teammates and made him jealous, forced the club to change their rules.
09:58Since that type of money held back the club and guaranteed Ronaldo millions, even though
10:03Man U didn't feel like he was worth it anymore, no other clubs were willing to pay
10:07money like that for him.
10:09So, Man U let Ronaldo go for free just so he wouldn't be a distraction anymore, and
10:14they also banned all Man U players of any skill or status to make over $240,000 a week
10:20by calling it the Ronaldo rule.
10:23Damn, Ronaldo really changed the club forever, but what if I told you the MLS is about to
10:28change football forever.
10:30I'm sure we've all seen crazy goals like this.
10:42But the problem is, they don't happen often enough, cause players have no extra reasons
10:47to kick from that far away.
10:49Until now.
10:50Rumors of a 2-point line, which would be a similar arc to a 3-point line in basketball,
10:55is now being thrown around the sport.
10:57Basketball fans are tired of the MLS not being as entertaining as other major leagues,
11:02so adding in a 2-point line not only would it encourage players to go for ridiculous
11:06highlights, it would make football games more action-packed and higher scoring.
11:11I'd finally buy some football tickets.
11:13But something I can't buy is the most legendary piece of memorabilia in football history at
11:19number 6.
11:21Nearly 70 years ago, Pele became one of football's first ever iconic players.
11:26As a teenager, coaches were already predicting he'd become the greatest football player
11:31in the world, so not only did Pele earn himself a spot on Brazil's national team, in 1958
11:37he officially got his own rookie card.
11:40But nobody knew what this item was destined to be.
11:43Just cause Pele exceeded all expectations and became a GO, his memorabilia's value
11:48skyrocketed and what seemed like just a piece of cardboard with his pic on it, became the
11:53first football card ever to sell for over a million dollars.
11:58Now that's definitely a lot of money, but at number 5, what if I told you a football
12:03player accidentally made a fan worth 40 million dollars?
12:08This is Charlie Morgan, aka Swansea's ball boy, and his journey towards becoming a millionaire
12:14started with this play.
12:20And all cause that lil ass boy got his ass beat.
12:23Not only did Chelsea star Eden Hazard get kicked out of the game, the situation went
12:27so viral, Charlie went from only a couple hundred followers to 100,000 overnight.
12:34So he began using his new fame to promote his brand, and it quickly became the fastest
12:39growing and most popular alcohol in all of the UK, AU Vodka.
12:44Its luxurious look and colorful flavors made all celebrities want to put it in their mouth.
12:50Football icon Ronaldinho loves the drink, Jake Paul even got the vodka tatted, and with
12:55this vodka selling thousands of bottles per day, Charlie's estimated net worth is now
13:01over 48 million dollars, all cause he got his ass whooped.
13:05Damn, who would've thought getting jumped would make someone rich?
13:08But I guess a better question is, who's this man's barber?
13:13This is football's ugliest haircut of all time, but the story behind it is even more
13:18ridiculous than it looks at number 4.
13:21This Ronaldo's from Brazil and dominated football in the 90's, but as he became an
13:26all time great, the expectations reached new heights and the pressure eventually forced
13:32him into the hospital.
13:35Out of nowhere, Ronaldo started suffering from seizures as well as devastating injuries,
13:41but doctors couldn't explain why.
13:43So they cleared his return to football cause the 2002 World Cup was right around the corner.
13:49And all Ronaldo wanted to focus on was winning his country the gold, but all anybody else
13:54could talk about were his health concerns, so he came up with the perfect distraction.
14:00I remember I had a little injury and everybody was talking about that injury, so I came to
14:06training with that hair, everybody was talking about the hair and forgot about the injury,
14:11so that helped me a lot in that time.
14:14And even though this haircut seemed like he was just trying to become a meme, which it
14:18did, it made everybody including Ronaldo forget about his health issues and instead
14:24clown his hair.
14:25So he was able to play the game with no pressure and carried his team to victory while looking
14:30like a famous cartoon.
14:38Dude really said that.
14:39The haircut was weird, but it definitely ain't as weird as… what footballs used to be at
14:46number 3.
14:47Today, I'm sure you think it's normal to be kicking this around.
14:50And what if I told you nearly 200 years ago, they used heavier leather balls like this.
14:55I mean, it doesn't seem too odd, right?
14:58Well, the sport goes way further back, and what they used during ancient times is scary.
15:04It's said that during Aztec football games, the competitions would get brutal cause each
15:09team's lives were on the line, literally.
15:12And if your team lost, well…
15:15It has been suggested that the losing team's sacrificed skulls or whole heads were used
15:20as balls.
15:21If true, it would have likely served a ritualistic purpose.
15:25Uh, and just like that, I ain't ever asking anybody to give me head again.
15:29But for real, footballs did kinda improve after that, when kids began… blowing animal
15:35bladders up like balloons and kicking that?
15:39Alright man, now I've seen it all.
15:41Like, I never thought I'd be so thankful for balls, man.
15:44At least for the last World Cup, the most technologically advanced footballs in history
15:48were created.
15:49They had motion sensors, offside detections, stat tracking, like, the balls were so advanced,
15:56they'd send data 500 times a second to a room full of refs who could make calls without
16:01even being on the field.
16:02But would the tournament have even happened if they knew the event would kill thousands
16:06of people at number 2?
16:08See, World Cup 2022 wasn't what you thought it was.
16:13The tournament was being planned 13 years ago to become the biggest football event of
16:18all time, and even though many wondered why a small country like Qatar became the lucky
16:23ones to host, it's all cause they promised to build the craziest stadium in football
16:28history.
16:29Now don't get me wrong, this place looked f***ing insane, cause it needed to be.
16:34The expected number of fans showing up was predicted to be 1.5 million people, more than
16:39half of Qatar's entire population.
16:42So just to accommodate that many more bodies, the entire area also needed to be revamped,
16:48with villas, hotels, and even cruise ships.
16:52But the hard labor that workers were forced to do was inhumane, and made headlines everywhere.
16:58Allegations of human rights abuses are also part of the story surrounding this multi-billion
17:03dollar sporting event.
17:05Labor advocates say migrant workers who built the massive soccer stadiums endured unsanitary
17:10conditions in extreme heat, injuries, and deaths have been reported.
17:15Apparently migrants were forced to complete tasks in 122 degrees, where there was barely
17:20any water or food, and workers not only couldn't take breaks, officials even held their passports
17:27and made it impossible for them to leave the country before the job was done.
17:31Things were kept quiet, cause only 37 deaths got reported as related to building the stadium.
17:38But then the number got bumped up a bit.
17:40What is the honest, realistic total, do you think, of migrant workers who died as a result
17:46of what they're doing for the World Cup in totality?
17:50The estimate is around 400.
17:52And after this, eventually news broke that since the World Cup was announced, over 6,000
17:58workers died.
17:59Damn, something's gotta change, cause if football fans knew what was going on, they
18:04probably would've went crazier than the time a crowd tried burning a football team
18:08alive at number 1.
18:10That went down here, cause the fans knew Saint Etienne needed this win, otherwise their club
18:17was gonna suffer one of the most embarrassing things a club could deal with, getting kicked
18:21out of their league and sent to a lower division.
18:24So with the game tied up, all the club had to do was not let this man score.
18:29And well…
18:31Uh, there's fans chucking lit flares at a football team's locker room!
18:46The stadium's on fire!
18:47I need police!
18:49I need firefighters!
18:50I need a goddamn SWAT team!
18:51Hurry!
19:01Uh, yeah, the situation got bad out of control.
19:13Fans and police officers fought till the end.
19:15Players were injured.
19:16Even the stadium got completely destroyed.
19:19So this became one of the most violent losses in football history.
19:24But everybody makes mistakes.
19:26Even Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar have.
19:28And it cost them millions.
19:30Supercars getting totaled.
19:32Buying illegal things.
19:34Getting robbed at gunpoint.
19:35You just heard 20 things you didn't know about football, but I still don't know why
19:39you haven't clicked this video.
19:41It's insane!
19:42Click it!
