The Keretapi Sarong 2024 event on Saturday (Sept 14) saw thousands of people donning colourful sarongs and using the public transport to converge in the Kuala Lumpur city centre to celebrate Malaysia Day.
The event was also held in Ipoh, Johor Baru, Kota Baru, Bukit Mertajam and Alor Setar.

00:00Malaysians have unique ways of showcasing our culture and celebrate the Malaysia Day.
00:17Today we celebrate with a splash of unity by wearing the sarong.
00:23So, without further ado, welcome aboard Kereta Api Sarong.

00:31We travelled from the Subang Jaya Station to the Dang Wangi Station on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line
00:37in various sarong colours on Saturday.
00:44We then walked to the Malaysia Tourism Centre grounds to celebrate the special occasion,
00:48together with thousands of people.
00:51This annual Kereta Api Sarong 2024 event was organised by non-governmental organisation, LOKO,
00:58to boost the use of public transport and revel our traditions.
01:02It was an amazing experience.
01:04We didn't expect so many people, but they were very supportive and happy.
01:08The best thing is that we got to see different cultures and religions.
01:12Today, everything is united.

01:16This is my first time, and this is my second time.
01:21It's great to be able to wake up early and be productive on a Saturday.
01:26We also met participants who came in other forms of unique attires representing the country.
01:32The attire I'm wearing is related to Raya flowers.
01:36Raya flowers are our national flower.
01:40This year's Kereta Api Sarong theme is pride of Malaysia.
01:45So, I'm proud to wear the Raya flowers,
01:49as well as the sarong,
01:52especially for the Kereta Api Sarong.
01:54I only have a week to pack everything.
01:57First of all, my attire is a Javanese concept.
02:00Basically, it's from the culture of Malaysia.
02:06So, I adapt everything in my outfit for today.
02:11Actually, every year, I come to participate in the Kereta Api Sarong.
02:15I'm proud of being Malaysian.
02:17We show off our attire together.
02:21Each of us has our own uniqueness.
02:28I always like how Malaysia has different cultures and styles.
02:31I love that everyone is embracing their culture and wearing such pretty costumes.
02:36It's not just Malay, Indian and Chinese.
02:39I saw Iban, Sarawakian and Sabahan.
02:42I think it's so pretty.
02:44It feels like we are all one team.
02:48When I came alone from Subang,
02:50they said,
02:51you don't have a gang?
02:52Come and join us.
02:53Everyone was so welcoming.
02:55We felt at home.
02:57If you go on a holiday,
02:59I think it's necessary that you go to a day like this.
03:04Because on a normal holiday, you don't see it.
03:06I think this makes it special to see how they really live.
03:24The Kereta Api Sarong 2024 was certainly fun.
03:27I hope it attracts even larger crowds in the future
03:30to celebrate our unity.
