Transcript
00:00So Susie, we're just here at the junction with Tadgbury Lane, Commonside and Chorley Road is it?
00:07Yeah.
00:07And this is Clusters... Burntwood?
00:10Burntwood.
00:11Burntwood. So you had a nasty accident here just a few days ago really.
00:15Yeah.
00:16Just fill us in on what happened, Sus.
00:18So I've been travelling home from my field, which is just down the lane from the waterworks, up Chorley Road.
00:26Travelling at 30mph back this way, a lady pulled out from the 60mph opposite, Commonside, and hit me.
00:40Basically pushed me into the hedge and her car set on fire.
00:44Yeah.
00:46Yeah, so she was obviously going too fast, the police confirmed at the scene.
00:53So yeah, her car set on fire and I struggled to get out of my car.
00:59Very scary then.
01:00Yeah.
01:01Very terrifying incident really.
01:02And you've got a horse riding place not far away, so you know, you get horses coming down these lanes as well, don't you?
01:09Yeah, we get horses.
01:10You're saying it's on a school run?
01:12It's on a school run, just down here is a school run.
01:15Yeah.
01:16There's a school run back that way, down Chorley Road as well.
01:20There's a livery yard just down the bottom of this hill here, there's a blind summit.
01:24Yeah.
01:25And there's a livery yard just down this track here, so there's lots of children riding around the area.
01:31So your view is that, I mean, you know, there's people who are trained to look at road safety, you know, that's not your gig, your qualification.
01:38No.
01:39But your view is something needs to be done here.
01:40There's been many accidents and it's too fast, the road's too fast.
01:44Is it a regular spot then for accidents?
01:46Yeah, we've had quite a few, I've contacted some people on the local Burntwood Facebook group.
01:51Yeah.
01:52And they've sent me their reports of incidents, near misses and accidents.
01:56Yeah.
01:57So, it's just too fast a road for the, you know, the area.
02:01For the type of junction.
02:02Yeah.
02:03Yeah, yeah.
02:04So how are you with yourself now then, you're still feeling sore and bruised and battered?
02:08Yeah, my legs and the pain, but I'm getting there now.
02:12Yeah.
02:13Has it made you kind of worry about getting back behind the wheel as well?
02:16A little bit, yeah.
02:17Yeah.
02:18I mean, I've got no choice, I've had to see to the horse twice a day, so.
02:21Yeah, yeah.
02:22But it, yeah, it does make you think.
02:25Yeah, so your view is, take anyone from the councils listening, look at this junction because at some point there's going to be a fatality or something.
02:33There will be and that's what we don't want, you know, they need to do something before then.
02:37Yeah.
02:39Generally, they do wait until there has been numerous fatalities until they will do something, which is totally unnecessary.
02:46They just need to get it done.
02:48And you were quite surprised to see the amount of debris that's been left here, if we just take a look around.
02:53Yeah, I think it's pretty bad that it's not been cleaned up, to be honest.
02:56Yeah.
02:57There's a lot of sharp things in this part here, so it's just not very nice to see either.
03:02Every day when you drive past, it needs to be tidied up.
03:04Just a reminder as well.
03:05Yeah, it's not nice.
03:07So, Suze, you're just pointing out, we're coming to this cross junction here, there's literally no give way sign.
03:14Nothing.
03:15And even the markings on the road, you know, I mean, they're worn out.
03:19And if we walk down in this, you know, in this light as well.
03:24You can't see that that's a give way.
03:26No, but obviously at a cross junction, surely there should be a give way.
03:31But from this side, which is where the lady was coming from, nothing.
03:36So if you're not from the area, do you know what I mean?
03:39She's gone straight over.
03:40Well, that's straight off the first thing they need to be doing, isn't it?
03:43Yeah, that's a standard thing that should have been there.
03:46Apparently years ago, there was a give way sign a bit further back, but it hasn't been replaced.
