Transcript
00:00Everybody played Newfoundland
00:05and traditional Irish music
00:06first and foremost,
00:07and most of that came
00:08from the lips of fellows
00:11like Ralph O'Brien.
00:12We had tremendous success
00:13with our albums and all that,
00:15but I always had in my mind,
00:16I always wanted to open a bar.
00:19So what I did in actual fact
00:20is I created a venue
00:23for the Sons of Aaron.
00:25Master and his men
00:26definitely played there.
00:28A set of punters there.
00:29Dermot O'Reilly
00:30and Fergus O'Byrne.
00:31The Canamara.
00:32The Irish Descendants.
00:33Aaron's pub was rocking.
00:36I don't think I ever had a dream
00:37to have my own pub.
00:38I always dreamed
00:39to have this pub.
00:41And I got it.
00:42He was eager to sell it to us,
00:43where I know many other people
00:44have offered him money
00:45for the pub over the years,
00:46and he declined.
00:47But he knew that we'd
00:48take care of his baby.
00:55We could open now if we wanted,
00:56if people were stunned enough
00:57to go sit there
00:58in the middle of a shithole
00:59and have a pint.
01:03St. John's has an energy about it
01:05that most places don't have.
01:07It has a sense of assuredness
01:08that most places don't have.
01:10And most of all,
01:11it has this music
01:12that's the lifeblood of the place.
01:14Aaron's was a funny little room
01:16that somehow managed
01:17to capture all of that.
01:18I'm thrilled that Chris and Bob
01:20is taking it over
01:21because the music is going to live.
