00:00I cannot sleep when there is a full moon. Do you say such things out aloud or to yourself?
00:08Well, let's look at some of the common reasons behind why people believe in this.
00:15We can say that the moon does impact life on earth and the most important thing is the
00:22gravitational pull on the ocean, the water and the tides. So a common reason which I hear people
00:29giving is well human body is mostly water so if the moon can you know impact as such a wide ocean
00:37wouldn't it impact me? Well at surface level that does sound like a very logical explanation
00:43but let's look at it. Yes the human body is say 50 to 60 percent of water but there's a difference
00:50between you know like a bowl of water, an ocean of water and the human body. It's not just water in
00:57its purest form so as to say and there was a study which was done which studied the impact of
01:05the moon's gravitational pull on the human body and guess what the scientists found it was less than
01:13one millionth of that of an atom. One millionth of less than an atom. That was the impact that
01:20the moon's gravitational pull had on the human body. So we can safely assume that it's not going
01:28you know the moon is not like you know turning you into a lunatic. I know another thing which
01:34people try to do is you know play a play on the words. You know the word lunar comes from the
01:41roman goddess of moon. Luna and you know people with some you know mental health conditions turn
01:49to have tend to have you know heightened symptoms. Now again there was a study which was done and
01:55only I think in bipolar disorder there was some you know like aggravation of the symptom
02:01and impact on sleep during the full moon cycle but there was no conclusive evidence found
02:06on people with other mental health conditions like anxiety, depression or other things. Now
02:13I want to ask you one thing. If the logic is that that the moon impacts water on earth and we are
02:20mostly water, shouldn't the moon impact all of us in the same way? Have you ever noticed that every
02:27person in the world is staying up during the full moon night? No. Obviously there are people who are
02:34you know fast and sound asleep during the full moon. They couldn't care less about the face of
02:40the moon and so the thing is if that logic was true it should have impacted all of us on the
02:48earth in the same way. Now do not try to again complicate it with logic like no my horoscope
02:55is different, my birth chart is different and things like that. If you are ready to believe
03:01that a celestial object which is like I don't know 240 000 miles away from earth can impact your sleep
03:10how about your own mind which is living with you? Don't you think that would have way more power
03:16on your own sleep compared to a celestial object? Again maybe there is some impact of moon on sleep.
03:24We haven't yet understood it but all I'm trying to say is that you have way more control and
03:30way more power over your own fate and especially your sleep. You know there were even some sleep
03:37studies which was done on people and they did notice there was a small you know like
03:44people stayed up longer and had lesser sleep on full moon days but that was only 20 to 25 minutes
03:52of less sleep on those full moon days. But even in those cases how many of those people already
03:58believed that they would sleep less because they were it was a full moon or you know like how many
04:05people had difficulty sleeping well because it was done in a sleep lab which is not the most ideal
04:11environment for sleep. You have a lot of equipments which are monitoring your brain waves and everything
04:18so there could be many of these factors which could be impacting your sleep.
04:22If you were to actually track your sleep across a 30-day period you might notice you would have had
04:30lesser sleep on other days of the night than on the full moon. Now we can't say then there was
04:38it was the waxing phase of the moon or the waning phase of the moon which caused those sleep
04:43disturbances. So my suggestion to you is we can't change the position of the moon we can't shift it
04:51a little bit here or there but there are so many things which are within our control like following
04:56good sleep hygiene you know making sure you eat two to three hours before bed and you know stopping
05:01all fluid intake an hour before bed you know stopping caffeine by afternoon or by evening
05:07and you know not and the most important thing is not making a big spectacle out of you know going
05:13to sleep you know it's okay if you get less sleep also you can compensate for it the next day. Follow
05:21good sleep hygiene, work on your stressors and all those things and that itself will definitely
05:28you know like improve the quality of the sleep and you do not need to worry about the phase of
05:33the moon you only need to worry about I wouldn't even say you only need to focus on your own mind
05:40to be able to sleep well.
