00:00Fans confused by song choice for Jelly Rolls Emmys in memoriam performance.
00:05That was weird. Did I miss something? One viewer wondered.
00:10For the second time this year, fans felt frustrated
00:14by what they saw on TV during the Emmy Awards in memoriam tribute segment.
00:19Back in January, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards,
00:23which was delayed several months as a result of the actors' and writers' strikes,
00:28noticeably didn't include several actors who passed away in the previous year,
00:33including Ray Stevenson, Joyce Randolph, Bill Hayes and others.
00:38Fans reacted with outrage to the exclusions online,
00:42with many questioning how the list of people included in the segment are chosen.
00:47Eight months later, the awards show was back to its normal time slot,
00:51with the ceremony taking place at the Peacock Theatre at Elle.
00:56At Live in Los Angeles, Calif., on Sunday, September 15,
01:01Jelly Rolls stepped onto the stage more than two hours into the show
01:06to introduce a portion of the event that honors those in the industry
01:10who have passed away in the last year.
01:13The country music star performed his new song, What's OK?, as photos of actors,
01:18directors and other industry professionals who lost their lives in the last year,
01:23flashed on the screen behind him.
01:25Peter Marshall, Phil Donahue, Ryan O'Neill, Gina Rowlands, Richard Simmons,
01:31Shannon Doherty, Donald Sutherland and James Earl Jones
01:35were among the actors and actresses remembered during the segment,
01:39but while most agreed that Jelly Rolls' performance was excellent,
01:43it was the song choice that stuck out to many viewers watching the ceremony at home.
01:49I love Jelly Roll, but that this is an odd song choice for an in-memoriam,
01:54one person wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
01:57I don't mean disrespect to Jelly Roll, which already feels ironic,
02:01but choosing to sing a song about depression, suicidal thoughts,
02:06and hanging on is a curious choice for the in-memoriam section of the Emmys.
02:11Did I miss something with the way these folks passed?
02:14Another ex-use asked.
02:16I'm not OK as the song for the in-memoriam,
02:19while these people certainly are not OK.
02:22They're dead, one person pointed out.
02:25And this in-memoriam song choice is so inappropriate and ill-timed,
02:29declared one viewer as another tweeted.
02:32That was weird in-memoriam.
02:34Music aside, some fans also fell apart online
02:38as they wondered about late actors they expected to see included in the segment.
02:43How many people watch awards shows in memoriam segments before they air?
02:48Someone always seems to be forgotten.
02:51Sometimes they're two-time Emmy winners like Andre Brawle.
02:55One fan wrote.
02:56There was particular outrage over the suspected exclusion of Friends star Matthew Perry,
03:02who died in October 2023.
03:05WAIT.
03:07Did they not put Matthew Perry on the in-memoriam?
03:10One person demanded.
03:12However, both Perry and Brawle were included in the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards in Memoriam segment
03:19that aired in January.
03:21A fact that others pointed out in corrections issued to ex-users on the social media platform.
