00:00Well, about the sixth of the weekend's premiership matches, toe-to-toe at Tannadice tomorrow.
00:05It's Dundee United and Rangers third and fourth place, respectively, in the table.
00:10Highlights tomorrow in the sports scene, live commentary, as I mentioned, from midday on SportsCentre.
00:14Two of your former teams came out only. One of the pair, though, unbeaten in the league this season, and it's not Rangers.
00:21Yeah, it's not, and Dundee United have had a fantastic start to the season.
00:24They've been really, really strong. Jim Goodwin, again, probably when they came into the league,
00:29I thought they would possibly struggle and find the time to find their feet, but they've not.
00:34They've looked really good at home. They've been strong at Tannadice,
00:38and they've got some good, exciting young players in their squad as well.
00:41That's what I would say is he's added a number of players to the squad and retained them,
00:46and yeah, he's got confidence in there. Again, that one against Hart,
00:49which was a massive one at Tyne Castle, I think was really unexpected from a lot of people,
00:53but that will give them real confidence going into the game tomorrow against a strong Rangers team
00:58and a Rangers team that need the three points.
01:01They certainly do need the three points. This is United's, would you say it's their toughest challenge of the season so far?
01:06Yeah, I think it definitely is, but they go into the game in a good position.
01:10They're unbeaten. They've won their last two games. They've had two clean sheets in the last two games as well.
01:15So defensively, they're in a great position. They've only conceded three goals in the league so far.
01:21So if ever there was a time to face Rangers or the old firm,
01:26it's now for Dundee United because they are in a good place.
01:30So it'll be a really difficult game for Rangers, but certainly one that they can't afford to slip up.
01:35They dropped points against Harts, who were certainly worthy of the point on the day,
01:41and then obviously the old firm defeat at Celtic Park.
01:44Rangers have got to win it, Cammy. What are the eight points behind Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the table?
01:49Must win. Must win games from now on in for me.
01:51I think Rangers need to go and win every single game
01:54and then take themselves all the way through to the next old firm game where they need to win that as well.
01:58So there's huge pressure on Rangers tomorrow. They need to react to their defeat, obviously.
02:03What do you think the impact of that defeat will be? Will it be to bolster them?
02:07To galvanise them in a certain way?
02:11They need a reaction. They need a positive reaction. That's what the manager will be looking for.
02:15Obviously, they've had a bit of time to digest this performance and result with international break.
02:21But again, it was just, for me, that old firm result.
02:25There was two different levels of teams there. Celtic were on a different level than Rangers.
02:29Rangers need to find that level. They need to be consistent from here on in.
02:33And they can't afford to give away goals. They need to score as well.
02:36So yes, it's a tough game. Easier said than done, though, isn't it, Julie?
02:40Yeah, I mean, certainly against a side like Celtic, it was easier said than done.
02:44I think the quality on the day from Celtic, I think their work rate's incredible.
02:48I think we've seen against Rangers that even off the ball, as soon as they lose the ball,
02:53they're so hungry to get it back. The running of the players to allow the person on the ball to have options.
03:00For me, I agree with Kami, they were a level above.
03:03And certainly that's something that Rangers are going to need to very quickly learn how to close the gap.
03:08What sort of game do you think we're going to get tomorrow?
03:10I think the D-United are going to go into it certainly with an attacking threat.
03:16I think sometimes you can sit in and allow the old firm to come at you,
03:20but I don't think that'll be the case for the D-United.
03:22I think they've shown enough in the first part of the season that they're capable of getting at Rangers.
03:29And they'll have looked at the games that Rangers have played already
03:32and they'll see that they can be vulnerable defensively and they'll be hoping to get at them.
03:36Tell you what, guys, this should be interesting because we're about to hear from Kilmarnock manager,
03:41Derek McInnes, after his side's 2-0 draw in Paisley against Edmonton,
03:45a game that was absolutely dripping in incident and controversy.
03:51Derek, where to start with that game?
03:54It was an incredible game of football wee, but your boys really dug in.
03:57Did they get a point in that, having gone down to 10 men?
03:59Yeah, I think if you concentrate firstly on the performance from start to finish,
04:03I thought we were a better team with 11 men.
04:05I thought we really asserted ourselves in the game, coming here as an away team.
04:09I thought we overran them in midfield.
04:11I thought we carried a threat on the sides.
04:14I'm really pleased with how we really committed to playing around St Martin's Sheet.
04:18I thought we were terrific.
04:20Yet, the first time the ball comes in our box, Ole Sanya gets a run
04:24and we're so annoyed with that type of goal.
04:28But the response was good, a well-worked set play.
04:32Set plays are so important, but St Martin's are a big team
04:35and sometimes you've got to think a wee bit out of the box to try and find a solution.
04:40Brilliant invention, the stuff we showed in the video,
04:44and Matty and Danny carried it out and Marley gets his goal.
04:48And, you know, when you see the referee getting called over for the handball,
04:52I've not seen that again.
04:54I've got to trust that that is a handball.
04:56I don't know, the bar has been reduced on that in terms of what a handball is.
05:01So again, I haven't seen that prior to coming to the interview,
05:06but we've got to assume that the referee's called that right.
05:08So we've got it all to do again.
05:12But the moment of madness, really, for Joe Wright, it's unacceptable.
05:16He'd be fined two weeks' wages for his actions on Sean Rooney.
05:21If the referee has deemed that as a punch, it's ridiculous.
05:27It really is ridiculous. It's a lack of ill-discipline.
05:29And listen, I'm not here to hang my players out,
05:31but the Commandant fans need to know that's not acceptable.
05:35And if the referee has seen what I think I saw,
05:38I thought it was enough for a wee red card.
05:41Interesting stuff from Derek McInnes there.
05:43Two weeks' wages, a fine for Joe Wright,
05:46but it's not his first offence this season.
05:47Already got a red card earlier on.
05:49No, it's not. And again, when you see this red card on the highlight show tonight,
05:54it'll be interesting everyone's taking it.
05:55It's very difficult to see.
05:56I think he actually catches Rooney in the private parts,
06:00and that's where he catches it.
06:02So again, I think if it's deliberate, it is a red card.
06:04And I think it's really, really silly when we're living in a world of
06:07VAR. They look at every single incident.
06:09So they're looking at that, and if he's done that,
06:11he's let his teammates down. There's a lot of niggling going on.
06:14It was very tousy. There was a lot of physical contact at set pieces,
06:18shall we say? Yeah, there was, but there's certain things that are going to be acceptable,
06:22and there's certain things that are not, and that is by the book.
06:26That's what happens. And I mean, as Cammy said,
06:30it's ridiculous because you know that VAR is watching every single thing.
06:35There's already a lot going on in that penalty box. Two really physical teams,
06:41and there's a lot of jostling going on.
06:43You know their eyes are going to be on it,
06:45and it's a really poor decision from him. He didn't refer to any other incidents though,
06:49Cammy. Maybe he will after he's seen the highlights. I think he will.
06:52I think when he looks back,
06:53I think there was that incident where Rooney kicks Vassell twice when he's on the deck.
06:57Yes, I know Vassell's got the ball in between them,
06:59but for me, there's intent to kick the player there.
07:01I think that was a surprise that VAR didn't intervene there.
07:05But again, I'm sure Derek MacInnes will have more to say this week about that game.
07:09We've heard Derek MacInnes' point of view.
07:11Let's get that off Stephen Robinson, the St Mint manager.
07:14He was also speaking to Andy Burke. Stephen,
07:17it's hard to know where to start with that game.
07:18So much happened in that 90 minutes,
07:20but what's your overall feeling coming out with just the point?
07:24Yeah, it was eventful, most definitely for a big Sehan, a lot of things.
07:29When they went down to 10 men,
07:31we didn't move the ball quick enough and we didn't deliver enough balls into the box.
07:35So, you know, we tried to complicate it.
07:36I think people thought at 2-1 with 10 men, perhaps the game's already over.
07:40It's not. We make poor decisions.
07:42The crowd get nervous and we didn't manage the game as well as we should have done.
07:47And you can see two set plays is so, so disappointing.
07:50We work on them tirelessly and, you know, ultimately I have to take the blame for that.
07:55So it's disappointing, but it's another point.
07:58It's another point gained, another two goals scored,
08:01which is positive, but we're conceding goals too easy.
08:05No doubt that Derek McInnes would be, as they say,
08:08the happier of the two managers there. An opportunity missed for the buddies?
08:13Yeah, I would say so. When you're 2-1 up
08:15and your opposition is down to 10 men,
08:18I think you should be quite comfortable that you can see out the game,
08:21that you can possibly get another goal and kill the game off.
08:25And it almost gave Kilmarnock a bit more of an edge to them.
08:30They seemed that bit more determined when they went down to 10 men
08:33and all credit to them because they really made a game of it.
08:37So certainly Derek McInnes will be more pleased,
08:40but Kilmarnock are still searching for that first win.
08:43How would you make a St Mirren start to the season? Not as good as last season.
08:47I think when they were unbeaten in the first seven cameo,
08:49but they've got the European excuse, as have Kelly.
08:53Yeah, they have. And again, I think they found it difficult.
08:56So did Kilmarnock. So it was two teams that I said before the game was a reset.
09:00They had the international break to recharge their batteries
09:03and then come into this game. And I think Steve Robinson will be disappointed
09:06because when you're 2-1 up, you need to control the game.
09:10You need to try and go and score, but maybe St Mirren just sat back
09:12thinking they had enough to get over the line
09:14and Kilmarnock have hit them with a sucker punch.

09:18this time from the mother of manager Stuart Kettlewell.
09:21He was speaking to Tyrone after his side's defeat at Pataudry.
09:26Stuart, just give us your thoughts after that.
09:29I think, listen, we're a wee bit disappointed.
09:31We're a bit disappointed by what we've put in, especially in the second half.
09:35Tyrone, I thought we took a step forward second half.
09:39I thought that we started to pose Aberdeen more problems.
09:41We acknowledged that they still carried a threat.
09:43Of course they did. And at times they've got a bit of control of the ball.
09:48But then second half, and especially towards that last chunk of the game,
09:52you could see the belief that was in our side.
09:53You could see that we were obviously trying to get out of here with at least a point.
09:58And I think you can see that with changes as well.
10:00We've got numerous forward players on,
10:02playing slightly out of position to make sure that we carried a threat going forward.
10:06So yeah, a bit of disappointment, especially with us being in decent form ourselves.
10:11And I think that, you know, we don't get too low after it.
10:14You know, it's not an acceptance of losing a game of football.
10:16We were coming to arguably one of the most difficult places you could come to at this time,
10:20given current form. And I don't think we shamed ourselves,
10:24but I just spoke to the players there about us having a greater belief at the start of the game,
10:28and kind of starting the game the way that we finished it.
10:30And I think if we do that, I think that we probably spook Aberdeen more than what we did in the first half.
10:34And I think we carve out more opportunities.
10:37They say it's not how you start, it's how you finish.
10:39But in this case, the poor start cost them.
10:41Yeah, it did. And again, he's absolutely right, Stuart Kettlewell.
10:44The way they finished the game the last 30 minutes, when they got that goal,
10:46there was that belief there. And they had a brilliant header actually,
10:50Mitov, and the Aberdeen goal had a fantastic save with about five minutes to go.
10:53So they were pushing, as Stuart said,
10:56they threw on a number of forward players searching for that goal to go and get a draw,
11:00but it wasn't to be today.
11:02Yeah, Motherwell didn't get the win. They won their two previous games.
11:05Look at the Hearts situation, Julie.
11:08They haven't won in any of their Premiership games this season.
11:11Seven games without a win in all competitions.
11:14Stephen Naismith's going to be under pressure, isn't he?
11:16He is, but then you consider they've already played both sides of the old fern.
11:21Two fixtures that aren't easy.
11:23They did get a point out of one of them.
11:25So I think now it might now be an opportunity for them to settle,
11:29try and find their form, try and find what's going to work for them
11:32because they really don't have a settled XI.
11:35And I think for me, that's part of the problem.
11:38So yeah, it's going to be a big couple of weeks for Hearts.
