00:00Okay, so one thing about me, you guys,
00:02I'm an 80-20 kind of gal.
00:05I am not a perfectionist.
00:06I believe if it's 80% of the way there,
00:09that extra 20% time that we spend
00:11trying to make it perfect is pointless.
00:16That's good.
00:17We also don't want it happening
00:18like on the side of the jar, but yes.
00:20Hey everyone, I'm Morgan Dubon,
00:22a passionate entrepreneur and life advisor.
00:25With The Journey podcast, you'll discover
00:27that success isn't about the destination,
00:28it's about the journey.
00:30I'm sharing stories of amazing people
00:32who've taken control of their lives.
00:33Join me on my own journey to discover
00:36the secret sauce behind reaching success
00:38with permission from no one else.
00:43Welcome to The Journey podcast.
00:44We're back with a new episode.
00:47We're talking all things cooking.
00:50I'm here with Kevin Curry from Fit Men Cook.
00:52Entrepreneur, extraordinaire, and you know,
00:55recently I was on TikTok and I was telling people,
00:59I said, I don't really cook, I don't clean, you know?
01:01And the men in the comments,
01:03they're like, how are you gonna feed your baby?
01:06I was like, okay.
01:07Uber Eats?
01:08Yeah, low key.
01:09I was like, meal prep, Fit Men Cook meals.
01:11Hey, now we're gonna make something
01:14that's really easy for you to grab and go
01:17in the morning time, but also maybe even at night,
01:19just cause, you know, breakfast is good, you know,
01:22at any time.
01:23We're gonna make some peach cobbler overnight oats.
01:28Inspired, you know, peach cobbler overnight oats.
01:30So first thing, I like to just get the frozen peaches
01:32because they're already sliced, it's really easy.
01:35And it's pretty affordable as well.
01:37We're gonna put a skillet on medium high heat.
01:42Go ahead and get that going.
01:46And as we're doing that, I want you to check on the chili.
01:48Make sure it's good.
01:49Make sure the bottom isn't burning.
01:51Yep.
01:52And how do I know if the bottom is burning?
01:53You just stir it.
01:54Okay.
01:55I mean, it smells amazing.
01:57It does.
01:58And you see how it's thickening up too?
01:59Yeah.
01:59And when it cools, it's gonna be really thick too,
02:01so it'll be really nice and comforting.
02:04Yeah, I don't think it's burning on the bottom.
02:06Perfect.
02:07Then you can close the lid.
02:09Okay.
02:10Oh, you got the nails, I can't.
02:13Okay, there you go.
02:13Okay.
02:14All right.
02:15We got the skillet.
02:16Am I using both bags?
02:17Or do we just need one bag?
02:18Yeah, let's go and use both bags.
02:20Let's go and use both bags.
02:21Okay.
02:22I'm gonna cut up an orange,
02:24and I'm gonna explain to you
02:25what we're gonna do with this orange.
02:27Because, you know, peach cobbler has its own
02:30little syrup, right?
02:31Right.
02:32Add the frozen peaches there.
02:34Let's get the other bag too.
02:38Good, I like the fact that they're different sizes.
02:40To create the syrup,
02:41we're gonna squeeze in some orange juice.
02:45The reason why orange is really sweet,
02:47it's got a lot of sugar in there,
02:48but also it's got pectin.
02:50And pectin is that ingredient that they use
02:52to create like jams and jellies.
02:54It makes it, you know, congeal a little bit.
02:56Right.
02:57So it's just a natural way to go ahead and get that.
02:59I didn't know that.
03:00Teach me new things.
03:01Yay, I got you.
03:03And then we're gonna sweeten it up
03:04with some coconut sugar.
03:06The reason why I like coconut sugar
03:07is that sugar is sugar, y'all, right?
03:09So the calories in sugar
03:10are just gonna be the calories in sugar.
03:12Right.
03:12Across the board.
03:13But some sugars can spike blood sugar
03:15a little bit more than others.
03:17This one happens to have a lower glycemic index
03:20than the rest of the sugars.
03:21So it won't,
03:22it's less susceptible to spike your sugar,
03:24which is good if that's important to you.
03:27And I'm gonna get some cinnamon too.
03:29Okay.
03:29Now, if you want,
03:30if it's payday and you want to add in
03:32some like vanilla bean,
03:33vanilla bean is good,
03:34or you can add in some vanilla extract.
03:37But cinnamon feel like goes a long way.
03:41Pumpkin spice is also good.
03:43Yeah, pumpkin spice is good.
03:45I feel like I really-
03:46We're gonna skip the pumpkin spice today.
03:48Do y'all use pumpkin spice?
03:49I don't know if we use pumpkin spice like that.
03:51I don't know, that's why I was like,
03:52I don't know if I said that.
03:53All right, so just forget I even said that, y'all.
03:55We're keeping our black card today.
03:58So we're gonna cook these all the way down
04:00and you want them to be cooked down
04:02to the point where you can stab them
04:04with a spatula and break them in half.
04:07So they're not done just yet.
04:09But you don't want it up too high too
04:11where some of that liquid is gonna evaporate.
04:13But this is a good heat for it.
04:15But if you see that in your own skillet,
04:17then you may want to turn it down some
04:19because we want all the juice.
04:23And that's the hallmark of a good peach cobbler,
04:25that syrup.
04:26Now, let me go ahead and say,
04:28this is peach cobbler inspired.
04:31It's not your aunties or your mamas or grandma,
04:35you know, this is peach cobbler inspired.
04:37And this is also calorie conscious.
04:40We wanna be conscious of what we're putting
04:41into our bodies, but also of the amount of food
04:44and the amount of calories that we're putting
04:45into our bodies.
04:47This should remind you of the essence of peach cobbler.
04:50The essence, y'all.
04:54I'm able to cut them.
04:55Yeah.
04:56And once we get down to it,
04:58you should see some sear marks around the edges of it.
05:01Okay.
05:01Okay, I feel like I'm getting some edges.
05:03This is good.
05:04So I want you to get the cinnamon.
05:07We're gonna sprinkle that in.
05:08Okay.
05:10Mm.
05:11And then I'm gonna get, go ahead.
05:12You can be a little bit more heavy handed
05:14with the cinnamon if you want to.
05:15I know, I'm like a little scared now.
05:16Yeah, because I mean, cinnamon goes with this one.
05:20There.
05:22All right.
05:23And then I'm gonna add in a couple tablespoons
05:28of the coconut sugar.
05:29Okay.
05:30As much as you want, maybe about two tablespoons
05:32to begin with.
05:34And then go ahead and stir.
05:36And I'm gonna squeeze in the orange as you do that.
05:40Remember, it's gonna create that syrup.
05:42Oh yeah.
05:43But it's also going to help it to the jelly-like.
05:47Oh, it smells like dessert.
05:49Yeah, that's what we want.
05:51But I can see how it's gonna turn into like
05:53some thicken up.
05:54Yeah, because if it's really soft right now,
05:56can you chop it up a little bit?
05:58Okay, good.
05:59Yeah.
06:00So go ahead and do that.
06:01This one may be easier.
06:03Okay.
06:03Stab.
06:04Oh yeah, this is easier, but they're still not ready.
06:10Okay, perfect.
06:11But you know that, see?
06:12Yeah.
06:13I want you to maybe grab like a smaller one too
06:15and you can taste it and see like what it needs.
06:17Okay.
06:18Because that was just half of an orange
06:19and you see what that did.
06:20Mm-hmm.
06:23It's hot.
06:23It's hot.
06:24It is.
06:26It's too hot.
06:27It is smoking.
06:30Mm.
06:32It's all right.
06:34I mean, it's not the one you have at the church,
06:36but it's a close, it's a good one.
06:38Mm-hmm.
06:39All right.
06:40It's good, but definitely needs to be
06:41cooked a little bit more.
06:42Yeah.
06:43They feel a little hard.
06:44Now let's move on.
06:45Let's make the cream.
06:46Okay.
06:47So, you know, overnight oats,
06:48you're gonna usually mix it up
06:49with your favorite milk and whatnot.
06:51I want it to boost the protein.
06:53Yeah.
06:54And make it a little bit creamier too.
06:54So I'm gonna use some cottage cheese.
06:57If you're not a fan of cottage cheese, just trust me.
06:59Whenever you blend it up,
07:00it literally just becomes kind of like cream cheese.
07:04I like cottage cheese too, because it is slow digesting.
07:06And when it's slow digesting,
07:07it's gonna make you feel fuller much longer.
07:09Right.
07:10And when you're doing everything else,
07:11you need to have that and be good.
07:12So this is gonna keep you full.
07:14Now, you know, cottage cheese is having a moment.
07:16Oh, yes.
07:17We're not putting any mustard in this.
07:19Y'all, she tried to get me to eat, on camera,
07:21a sausage and cottage cheese and mustard,
07:25and then do a carrot and cottage cheese and mustard.
07:28And I was like, I've never even heard this.
07:29She is actually,
07:31the reason why TikTok is doing so well,
07:34she's on that app.
07:35I'm a super fan.
07:35She's on that app.
07:36I am.
07:37I am on that app.
07:38And I say that shamelessly.
07:40Okay.
07:41So we're going to add in,
07:42let's just put the,
07:44let's put half of that in there.
07:45Okay.
07:46Cottage cheese.
07:47And I recommend,
07:48whenever you're getting stuff like Greek yogurt
07:50or cottage cheese,
07:51go ahead and get the 2% or even the full fat version.
07:54Now I know what you're thinking like,
07:55oh, I've got to keep my fat low.
07:56Well, you should keep the fat low in your diet, like overall.
07:59But the thing about the other ones
08:02is that in order to replace that flavor that fat has,
08:06what do you have to add in there?
08:07What do they add?
08:08Sugar.
08:09Oh, right.
08:10So it's just higher sugar.
08:11And plus it just tastes nasty.
08:12Yeah.
08:13So let's do about a cup of that.
08:18I'm going to check on,
08:21Oh yeah.
08:22I'll take that.
08:23Vibes.
08:24It smells great.
08:25Oh, you can see it's thick
08:26because the peaches aren't moving when I do that.
08:29Oh yeah.
08:30And let's turn it down.
08:31I'm losing my salts.
08:32It's all right because you know what we also have?
08:34We have the other half of that orange.
08:37Let's squeeze that in there.
08:39And you may want, if you do that,
08:41you may want to add just some more coconut sugar
08:44or a little bit more like cinnamon.
08:46But I really want us to rely more on the natural ingredients.
08:51So cinnamon and orange juice.
08:54So just get out of our comfort zone
08:55and use things that maybe we wouldn't be thinking about
08:58because there's a lot of flavor in here.
09:00We don't necessarily need to be heavy handed
09:02the way mama and them used to be.
09:03Yep.
09:04It is good though.
09:05We are breaking generational curses
09:08around health and diabetes and high blood pressure
09:11and all the things.
09:12That's right.
09:13The devil is alive.
09:14That black people are prone to.
09:16Yeah.
09:16Oh yeah.
09:17This is getting good.
09:19That's looking really good.
09:21Okay.
09:22Look how syrupy that is.
09:25Yeah, perfect.
09:26And we want to just chop it up too
09:27just because once we add it to our jars individually,
09:30you want some of the,
09:31you want every spoonful of what you eat
09:33to maybe have a little bit of peach in there.
09:36Want to taste it and see what it needs?
09:39And see, maybe if you want to add something like yourself,
09:41another ingredient.
09:42Okay.
09:44You can even do a pinch of salt if you wanted to.
09:47Okay, I just want to say just this one thing.
09:49I heard the bottom of the pan scrape with the metal
09:51on your nonstick.
09:52Just, I mean.
09:53Don't do that.
09:54Yeah, I mean.
09:55Okay.
09:56Bro.
10:02Is it good?
10:03It's a little tangy.
10:04Okay.
10:05But we might want tangy.
10:06What do you think?
10:08This is you.
10:09You have to eat it.
10:10So, let's add in some cinnamon
10:12and add a little bit more coconut sugar or.
10:14No, I like the cinnamon level is good.
10:16Okay.
10:17I don't know that I want more sugar.
10:18I think we let it go.
10:18You like it?
10:19I think we let it be.
10:20All right.
10:21You could add in some vanilla though if you wanted to.
10:24I like it this way.
10:26See, that's how you know.
10:27This is, that's good.
10:28No, that's really good.
10:30I like it this way.
10:30Because you gotta eat it.
10:31And I think that sometimes we try to overcomplicate things
10:33and make it.
10:34No, just.
10:35And potentially, depending on how everything comes together,
10:38I might say put some honey on the oats.
10:40We are.
10:41Oh, well then yeah, we're good.
10:42We're good.
10:43Okay.
10:44I don't know if I put enough liquid in here.
10:47We could do a little bit more.
10:48And let me see how many jars we have.
10:50We may have to end up.
10:51That's perfect.
10:52Okay.
10:53We don't have to use as many jars.
10:54Yeah.
10:55And then, I would just do like a little squirt
10:57of honey in there.
10:58Okay.
10:59You don't really have to, but if you wanted to.
11:02Another thing that I like to add, perfect,
11:04is a date.
11:06Date is a natural sweetener.
11:07Oh yeah.
11:08Date's really high in sugar.
11:08It's really good.
11:10Oh, do you have a date?
11:10Come on now.
11:11Oh, whoa.
11:13Pregnant ladies have dates.
11:14They are really good, aren't they?
11:15Yeah.
11:16Oh, heck yeah.
11:17And they're good for, you know, all the things.
11:20Yeah, go ahead and put a date in there then.
11:22That would, mm-hmm.
11:24Well, is that a half a date?
11:25Maybe one more date.
11:27That's like a raisin.
11:29They're small.
11:30Okay, but that's good for snacking
11:31because one date is pretty high in sugar.
11:34Perfect.
11:35So you can either use date or honey.
11:36We're gonna do both right now just to,
11:38because this is our kitchen.
11:40Okay.
11:41Perfect.
11:42We're gonna blend this up.
11:48Oh, you know what?
11:49Maybe it's the wrong top.
11:50Is it this stuff?
11:51Oh, it's the wrong top.
11:52Yeah, see that.
11:54We good, we good.
11:55I'm like, come on, we are too educated black people.
11:58This feels a little bit better.
12:00That's perfect.
12:01Okay.
12:09Gotta get the dates.
12:13All right.
12:13This should just be up.
12:17And you wanna add as much as you're gonna be using.
12:20Right.
12:21So I think we've got about four to five jars.
12:25Yep, might as well.
12:26Yeah.
12:30All right.
12:31So now we have cream.
12:33Yeah.
12:33All right.
12:34I'll take this off.
12:37Ah, this is a really nice blender.
12:43Okay, you wanna taste it, you can.
12:44I'm just going.
12:46Is it good?
12:47Yeah, for me it's good.
12:48It tastes like a mild cream cheese.
12:49Oh, it tastes great.
12:51Yeah, it's like a liquid cream cheese, but yummy.
12:55So now let's add our oats.
12:58So ideally you would wanna measure out.
13:01So let's say that you wanna have a cup of oats each time
13:03or however.
13:04We're just gonna add a bunch to it
13:06because we've got a whole bunch of jars
13:07and you can mix and match later on.
13:09But if you want the recipe, I can send it to you.
13:11You can send it out to people.
13:13Is there much?
13:14Oh, we're not gonna use one cup.
13:16It's about, it's a cup, about two cups,
13:19three cups, four cups.
13:21These are whole grain oats, nothing fancy.
13:24Yeah, and I like to use the whole grain
13:26and not the instant so that we have
13:28a little bit more texture.
13:29And we're gonna add in some heart healthy fats.
13:33Oh yeah.
13:33With some chia seeds.
13:34The cool thing about chia seeds as well
13:36is that it's going to thicken up.
13:38Oh, okay, yeah, you can do that.
13:40No, what do you want me to do?
13:41Because sometimes there's a whole lot.
13:44So maybe, well, let's do, since they're gonna be four jars,
13:49let's do four tablespoons first.
13:52Two.
13:56And four.
13:57That's a lot of chia seeds.
13:59Yeah, it's a lot.
14:01But it's going to help to thicken it up.
14:03It's gonna make it like a pudding too,
14:05which is pretty satisfying.
14:08Egg.
14:10All right, let's pour in just maybe some of it,
14:14maybe like half.
14:16And I'm gonna stir as you do it.
14:19Okay.
14:20More?
14:21Yeah, you can put a little more in there.
14:23All right.
14:25Yummy.
14:26And you can see, now, keep going.
14:28You want more liquid than you do oats
14:30because remember, when it actually cooks in the fridge,
14:35it's going to, it can get really dry
14:37if there's not the right ratio.
14:39So you want this to be a little bit soupy, it's okay.
14:42More?
14:43Yes.
14:44Okay, I think that's about good.
14:46Yeah, you want it to be about like this.
14:49All right.
14:53Perfect.
14:54Looks great.
14:55And such an easy thing to go ahead and put together.
14:58And remember that if it's not sweet enough right now,
15:01don't worry because you're gonna,
15:03once you're eating it, you can add in some honey,
15:06you can add in some sweetener as well,
15:07some stevia in the raw, if that's important to you.
15:11All right, and I love that this is a really good add.
15:14You know what we should do?
15:15We're gonna make this look like one of them Pinterest posts.
15:17So I got some black tape and some Sharpies.
15:23Shout out to Sharpie.
15:24Shout out to Sharpie, hey.
15:26And I want you just to write down,
15:28maybe just the date in the small corner of it
15:32and then what it is.
15:34Perfect.
15:35Now that looks like it belongs on Pinterest.
15:38First of all, the baby is hungry.
15:40So I'm like, this is cute now.
15:43Okay, so let's hurry up.
15:46We need to wrap this meal prep video on up.
15:48So, all right, we're gonna,
15:50cause mama's hungry and.
15:53The baby is hungry.
15:54The baby's hungry.
15:55To the bottom of this,
15:56we're gonna add in maybe a tablespoon or two
15:58of the peaches.
16:00Yep.
16:01Okay.
16:02Put them on the bottom.
16:03Go ahead.
16:03Okay, perfect.
16:04This is stressing me out.
16:07Ready?
16:10I think there's a, yeah, use this one.
16:12Okay.
16:13It'll be easier to dip stuff out for you.
16:15Roger that.
16:16Perfect.
16:17These smell so good, you guys.
16:19That's good.
16:20That's good for that one.
16:21And we can always just add more after,
16:23after we spread it out.
16:24So each one.
16:25Now this may not be aesthetically pleasing,
16:27but it smells delicious.
16:29And that's all that matters.
16:31That's good.
16:34No, it's okay.
16:35This is good.
16:36Hey, it's hers.
16:37She gotta eat it.
16:38Yeah.
16:39She's eating for two.
16:39Yeah.
16:40We don't judge.
16:41No.
16:42No.
16:43What you talking about?
16:44That is really good syrup.
16:45You were right.
16:46It's delicious.
16:47I like that tang.
16:47The tang is great.
16:49The tang is great.
16:51Oh yeah.
16:52So you see that we're about maybe like a third cup,
16:56maybe a fourth cup here.
16:57So if you wanted to,
16:58we could even do five jars.
17:00Yeah.
17:01Oh, we can take some.
17:02All right.
17:03That's a good dip.
17:04We're not gonna waste these.
17:04Yeah.
17:05We may have to add in some more oats,
17:07but that's okay.
17:07Okay.
17:08We can do that.
17:09We got more cream too.
17:10I'm gonna go ahead and stir that.
17:14Perfect.
17:16And I want you to see too,
17:17you see how stiff that is?
17:19That's why we want to have more.
17:21Right.
17:22More liquid.
17:25Okay.
17:27My bad.
17:29That was all part of that.
17:30I wanted to see how,
17:31if y'all were really watching,
17:32because you gotta watch what you're doing
17:33in the kitchen, right?
17:35So that was all for y'all.
17:38I'm gonna add in a little bit of chia.
17:40And then since we have some oat milk,
17:43add in some oat milk.
17:46All right.
17:49Perfect.
17:51There you go.
17:52You don't have to stir it.
17:53You see how thick that is already?
17:55It's just,
17:56So good.
17:56That's the chia,
17:57that's the oats coming together.
17:58Yep.
18:00I'm gonna add in just a bit more,
18:02just to be safe.
18:03Safe, yep.
18:05I'm at breakfast for five days.
18:08Yeah.
18:08Well, three.
18:10Cause I got some people over here
18:11who are probably gonna grab some.
18:13There you go.
18:14Perfect.
18:15Now,
18:16I'm supposed to pour this in here?
18:18Yeah, but let's use that spoon over there.
18:20Okay.
18:21That one's a little bit easier.
18:24It's definitely thick.
18:25Yeah.
18:26She thick.
18:27Perfect.
18:28It doesn't have to be perfect.
18:28It's kind of like mush.
18:29Yeah.
18:30But it smells,
18:32like pie.
18:34Hey, she gotta eat it, y'all.
18:35I'm just watching this.
18:36Okay, so one thing about me, you guys,
18:39I'm an 80-20 kind of gal.
18:40This is true.
18:41I am not a perfectionist.
18:43I believe if it's 80% of the way there,
18:46that extra 20% time that we spend
18:48trying to make it perfect,
18:50That's a good,
18:51is pointless.
18:52That's good.
18:53We also don't wanna have it on the side of the jar,
18:56but yes, yes.
18:56We're gonna clean it up after.
18:57Yeah, we are.
18:58Yeah.
18:59Yeah.
19:00Absolutely.
19:01Delicious.
19:04She gotta eat it, so y'all,
19:05so stop talking about it and comment.
19:07Don't come for her.
19:08First of all, don't project your negativity
19:10onto the internet.
19:11They may be fine with this.
19:12They are gonna be fine with this.
19:13We're gonna clean it up after.
19:15He is really enjoying it.
19:17Yes.
19:18My partner in crime, Josh,
19:20is a,
19:22not an 80-20 man.
19:24He is 110% man.
19:27Which is why he's a ying to my yang, y'all.
19:29Yeah, that's right.
19:30It's a perfect combo.
19:31All right.
19:32Now, if you wanna add in a little bit more,
19:33because we have some left,
19:34or if you wanna save this too,
19:36and the good thing about overnight oats
19:38is that you can freeze them.
19:40You can freeze them.
19:41Mm, I didn't know that.
19:42Yeah, and so they'll last longer.
19:45If you wanna keep this in the fridge,
19:46they'll last you for about five to seven days,
19:50and I know that we've been cooking
19:51and juggling like another meal here,
19:53but you were able to do this
19:54in pretty much like 15 minutes.
19:56If you weren't talking to me,
19:58this would be done in 15 minutes.
19:59I believe it.
20:00You have breakfast done for a few days,
20:03and I like that you left some room in here
20:06because what I like to do with mine
20:07is I'll get a spoonful of Greek yogurt.
