15 सितंबर से पितृपक्ष शुरू हो गया है, जो अगले 15 दिनों तक चलेगा। हिंदू मान्यताओं के अनुसार, इन 15 दिनों में पितृ लोक का द्वार खुलता है। पितृपक्ष के दौरान लोग अपने पितरों के लिए जलदान, पिंडदान और ब्राह्मणों को भोजन आदि कराते हैं। पिंडदान परिवार का सबसे बड़ा या सबसे छोटा पुत्र करता है। सनातन धर्म के अनुसार, इन दिनों में कोई भी शुभ कार्य नहीं किया जाता है। वाराणसी के दशाश्वमेध घाट के पंडित राजू झा ने बताया कि पितृपक्ष का समापन 15 दिनों बाद कृष्ण पक्ष की अमावस्या को होता है।
