00:00Operation Workforce is about getting the town ready for the Market Square opening

00:04but also allowing us to provide that visible presence to the businesses that

00:09are working here and looking at tackling some of the crime types that we know

00:13matters to them. So the Market Square reopening obviously massive investment

00:17into the town and as a police team to have that level of investment in your

00:21local area you don't get that opportunity very much. We're hoping that

00:24the Market Square is going to attract a lot more people into the town and we

00:27want them to be able to come and do that and feel safe and not be worrying

00:31about am I going to be a victim of crime, not be worrying about are my children

00:35going to see antisocial behavior that I don't want them to. There are officers on

00:39foot in the town every single day now whereas before we had patrolled in

00:44vehicles they're now out on foot so we're back to basics you will see police

00:48officers in the town more than you ever have. Today specifically we are working

00:52with the BID and anyone else that wanted to join us really as part of a bit of a

00:56clean-up day so we know there's hot spots in the town centre for graffiti

01:00and just areas that just don't look very nice and whilst that isn't traditionally

01:04a police-led operation to tackle to clean graffiti it's part of a bigger

01:09problem-solving so what can we do with our partners to make this town a nicer

01:13safer place and if there's no graffiti on the walls and that makes people feel

01:17safer obviously it's much bigger than graffiti isn't it but it's about making

01:21the whole town look and feel nicer. We're clearly not going to eradicate all crime

01:25in the town centre within our eight weeks but what we are doing is we've had

01:29our first kind of period of activity now we're revisiting the areas that we

01:33started off with so it's allowing us to kind of track our progress a little bit

01:37where are areas that we still need to be looking at how can we tweak things to

01:41make sure we're covering all bases. We will have our beat bus out in the town

01:44centre tomorrow we want people to be talking to us telling us what what they

01:48think we should be looking at what are the issues that you face as somebody

01:52coming into this town daily talk to us tell us about it so we will have a

01:56presence here tomorrow but we don't want to overshadow you know the big the big

02:00opening but we will be here.
