00:00I'm going to tell you something now I have never told anybody.
00:04Welcome to MsMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most shocking, frightening,
00:09and or devastating drama film moments. Spoilers ahead for the following movies.
00:14Your wife. You think she'd be proud of what you've become?
00:20Number 10. One last joke. Joker.
00:24Arthur Fleck kills men on a subway, lives with mental illness, and lashes out at society.
00:30He also wants to be a comedian, getting his wish on a late-night talk show.
00:34Good luck. Thanks, Murray.
00:36Murray, one small thing. Yeah.
00:40When you bring me out, can you introduce me as Joker?
00:44His appearance takes a menacing turn when he offers to tell the host,
00:48Murray Franklin, one more joke. Fleck's rant ends with a literal bang,
00:53committing murder on TV and proving that he's completely gone to the dark side.
00:57Good night, and always remember, that's...
01:01It also sets off a chain of disturbing events that inspire citizens to riot.
01:05Joaquin Phoenix's work here helped to earn him an Oscar,
01:09freaking out viewers with a troubled character pushed to the edge.
01:12You're utterly captivated in a moment where you fear a man who could snap at any time.
01:23Number 9. Shooting the floorboards in Glorious Bastards.
01:27At the beginning of Tarantino's war film, Hans Landa arrives at a French farm.
01:45He interrogates the farmer until the latter confesses that he's harboring a Jewish family.
01:50Landa's creepy charisma continues as he signals to his soldiers,
01:54ordering the men to fire into the floorboards.
01:58The accompanying soundtrack only gives this chilling moment an operatic quality.
02:06Tarantino plays with your emotions, horrifying you as the gunfire rings out and most of the
02:11family perishes. The filmmaker lays out the evil of the SS officer in this first sequence,
02:17but really emphasizes the character's killer instincts.
02:23Number 8. Fredo's Death, The Godfather Part II.
02:27While consolidating his power, Michael Corleone eliminates his enemies at the end of this sequel.
02:41This includes doing the unthinkable by ordering the death of his brother Fredo.
02:45The latter betrayed Michael, but it's still awful to consider that anything like this could happen.
02:50It's arguably the worst decision he makes throughout the entire series.
02:57Even for a man who has become accustomed to killing,
03:09the Don steps over the line and becomes almost demonic here.
03:13The anti-hero watches from his window as he erases any ounce of decency he has left.
03:19There's also the detail of the target saying a prayer before his demise,
03:22hammering home the sadness of this moment.
03:25Your country ain't your blood, you remember that.
03:27I don't feel that way.
03:28I don't feel that way.
03:29Number 7. Cecilia and Robbie's Fate, Atonement.
03:33Due to a terrible misunderstanding, the heroes of Atonement are torn apart as World War II gears up.
03:39You saw him then?
03:41Yes, I saw him.
03:43Just as you see me?
03:44I know it was him.
03:46You know it was him? Or you saw him?
03:50Yes, I did. I saw him.
03:53We then realize that they both didn't survive the conflict.
03:56Robbie dies awaiting rescue at Dunkirk, entering the military out of prison and later falling ill.
04:02And that could never have happened.
04:04Nothing ever happened.
04:05Because?
04:08Robbie Turner died of septicemia at Bray Dunes on June 1st, 1940.
04:17As if that isn't tragic enough, Cecilia drowns in a tube station during the Blitz.
04:22The devastating news reveals that a potential love story never happened.
04:26It also shows that Briony's actions as a child had a lasting impact on the people around her.
04:32My sister and Robbie were never able to have the time together.
04:37They both so longed for and deserved.
04:41For those expecting a fairy tale, this story's dramatic conclusion alters audience expectations.
04:48Number six.
04:49Little Bill Snaps.
04:50Boogie Nights.
04:51After a successful 1970s run, a group of adult filmmakers and performers celebrate New Year's Eve.
04:57Todd, Parker, Blackie, Reid, Rod, you made it!
05:05Amazing party, man.
05:06Little Bill isn't having a great night as he finds his wife with another man.
05:11Having been humiliated before, the assistant director grabs a weapon and seeks revenge.
05:16It's one of the darkest moments that includes the character's self-inflicted death.
05:24Not only that, it serves as the first of several bad omens for the surviving ensemble.
05:30The tracking shot ratchets up the intensity, putting you in the mind of a disturbed individual.
05:35Paul Thomas Anderson wraps the first half of his film on a shocking note that leaves you breathless.
05:47Number five.
05:48Ending the Family Dinner.
05:49Sicario.
05:50As U.S. agencies go after a cartel, Alejandro Gillick plans to take matters into his own hands.
05:56Don't ever point a weapon at me again.
06:00Cut your breath and get back on track.
06:02He goes solo at the film's climax to track down leader Alarcón.
06:06Gillick confronts the cartel leader at dinner,
06:09taking out the man's family before setting his sights on the main target.
06:13It's a chilling moment that shows how much the assassin wants revenge.
06:17Every night you have families killed, and yet here you dine.
06:27Tonight should be no different.
06:29Staring down the man who ordered the death of his loved ones,
06:32the killer has zero remorse for his actions.
06:34The cold-blooded decision will likely leave you stunned.
06:38Benicio del Toro's commanding presence here evokes the Grim Reaper,
06:42playing a frightening character that's lost any shred of humanity.
06:46I need you to sign this piece of paper.
06:51It basically says that everything we did was done by the book.
06:56Number four.
06:57Police Station Breakdown.
06:59Manchester by the Sea.
07:01As a beautiful and nuanced portrait of grief,
07:03Manchester by the Sea isn't afraid to show how much one event can shake someone.
07:08It was my impression that you'd spent a lot of time here over the years.
07:12I was just a backup.
07:14I came up here to look after Patty, yeah,
07:16after I was in the hospital after my father couldn't do it.
07:18But we... it was supposed to be done.
07:21Lee Chandler's children die in a house fire that results from him
07:25forgetting about the fireplace screen.
07:27He isn't formally punished for the accident,
07:30leading him to take matters into his own hands.
07:32Chandler's anguish here can't be overstated,
07:35as he endures the lowest moment of his life.
07:37Look, Lee, you made a horrible mistake,
07:40like a million other people did last night.
07:43I'm not gonna crucify you.
07:45It's not a crime to forget to put the screen on the fireplace.
07:50We come to understand the reason that he's so distant from everyone,
07:53having never gotten over his mistake.
07:56It's a depressing scene that breaks your heart
07:58and causes you to reconsider your own regrets.

08:03It's in Beverly.

08:27in one of the most visceral and violent moments ever.
08:30The hero's world turns to slow motion,
08:33taking in the sheer destruction and death surrounding him.
08:36Steven Spielberg and cinematographer Janusz Kaminski
08:39put you at ground level for an intense look at the historic event.
08:43For this part in particular,
08:45the director doesn't mince words about the sacrifices
08:48made on that fateful day in 1944.
08:50Miller is supposed to be a confident leader,
08:53but even he finds himself lost in the chaos and horror of it all.
08:56Let's get him to war!
08:57Grab some cover and put some fire on that crew!

09:08Sophie and her children are at Auschwitz
09:11when the former is given a terrible choice.
09:27She must decide whether her son or daughter will be sent to their death.
09:31It's unfathomable to put yourself in her shoes,
09:34making this scene as scary as any horror movie.
09:39The mother finally picks one to keep the other alive.
09:51We immediately understand all of her grief and anguish,

10:37Just beyond everything.
