Fatal Instinct is a 1993 American comedy thriller film directed by Carl Reiner. A parody of the thriller genre, which at the time had reached its commercial peak, as well as being a pastiche of 1940s film noir and psychological thriller genres, in particular Double Indemnity, the film stars Armand Assante as lawyer/cop Ned Ravine (a take-off on Body Heat, in which William Hurt plays the similarly named Ned Racine) who has an affair with a woman named Lola Cain (Sean Young). Kate Nelligan stars as Ned's wife and Sherilyn Fenn stars as his secretary. It also satirizes Sleeping With The Enemy many times. The film title is a combination of Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct, both of which starred Michael Douglas.

00:00:30The sleeping city is waking up, isn't it?
00:00:32Yes, you are right.
00:00:33Finally my first murder.
00:00:35His too.
00:00:37Hey, how do you find her?
00:00:39Well, he was married and she was here with him.
00:00:45How do you find her?
00:00:46I mean how she looks.
00:00:51Yes, she doesn't look bad.
00:01:00I would like to go swimming with you.
00:01:02Tell that to your wife.
00:01:04That would be a thing.
00:01:06You don't want her to be in the paper, do you?
00:01:09Are you serious?
00:01:10Call her.
00:01:11Call her and tell her.
00:01:13Go ahead.
00:01:20Where the hell is this Commissar Byrden?
00:01:22He's over there.
00:01:26I'm the manager.
00:01:28I don't give a damn about this damn murder.
00:01:30Do you see the woman over there?
00:01:31Yes.
00:01:32Was she there when he reported himself?
00:01:34Yes.
00:01:35Can the manager leave the hotel premises when all the rooms are occupied?
00:01:38If the owner is present again, then yes.
00:01:4225 damn years in this store and now this crap happens.
00:01:45Holy Jesus.
00:01:49What the hell happened here?
00:01:51We thought we were alone.
00:01:53There was no car here.
00:01:55So you killed him and ruined my night?
00:01:57Hey, hey, hey.
00:01:58That's enough.
00:01:59Mind your own business and shut up.
00:02:04I don't have any change to make a phone call.
00:02:06Me neither.
00:02:07You can call from my office.
00:02:09Let's get the hell out of here.
00:02:13Where is your boss?
00:02:15You are the Commissar, aren't you?
00:02:24The shot came from over there.
00:02:27That's possible.
00:02:29And what about over there?
00:02:31I don't think so.
00:02:32As good as impossible.
00:02:34Why are you so sure?
00:02:36Come on, Cliff. It's getting late.
00:02:38That's right.
00:02:46You didn't see anyone?
00:02:48Didn't you hear anything?
00:02:50No, I couldn't hear anything.
00:02:52The music was very loud, unfortunately.
00:02:54Are you cold?
00:02:55Yes.
00:02:57Take a seat.
00:03:03Cliff, there is someone and he wants to show you something.
00:03:06Okay.
00:03:11Look, the shot came from over there.
00:03:13And hit the man right there.
00:03:20Probably a small-caliber handgun.
00:03:28Looks like it.
00:03:47Where do we find the motive?
00:03:50Welcome to the murder commission.
00:03:53I don't understand one thing.
00:03:55Why did you let the woman go back to Cleveland?
00:03:58Because she lives there.
00:04:03It was just a joke, forget it.
00:04:05Because she didn't do it, that's why.
00:04:07And why are you so sure?
00:04:09The guy goes to his hotel.
00:04:11He takes a woman with him.
00:04:13Too little for a murder.
00:04:15A good explanation.
00:04:16Well, you know, she said...
00:04:18She thought she was alone.
00:04:21As she said, I just believe her.
00:04:24Maybe she didn't say everything after all.
00:04:27Well, who wants to be the main suspect?
00:04:32And what about the manager, Saitar?
00:04:34What do you mean?
00:04:35He could have done it.
00:04:36The victim was a real estate agent, Stegner Real Estate.
00:04:39The guy buys everything, does something with it, and Saitar is out of a job.
00:04:45I think the prosecutor will also whistle on this theory.
00:04:50Well, then only the owners are left.
00:04:56And that's why I'm going there again.
00:05:02It seems that our little murder has awakened the sleepy city.
00:05:09You drive me crazy.
00:05:13Why is he in such a good mood?
00:05:15A real quiz question.
00:05:17Since he left his wife, he has become even more guilty.

00:11:25Start something.
00:12:01Do you have a moment?
00:12:03No.
00:12:06So I'm not allowed to come in, right?
00:12:09You know, I have work to do.
00:12:11I'm investigating yesterday evening.
00:12:13I can't help you. I'm going to sleep.
00:12:15You don't sleep a lot, do you?
00:12:17Sometimes I do.
00:12:20Anything else?
00:12:22I mean, do you snore?
00:12:27I don't know. I sleep alone in my bed.
00:12:29But you don't meet every stranger, do you?
00:12:32I rarely talk to strangers. Can you understand that?
00:12:36Well, how do you get to know people?
00:12:38They just pass me by.
00:12:41Like now?
00:12:43Inspector Burden, didn't you just tell me you were investigating a murder case?
00:12:50Just don't tell me you didn't ask.
00:12:53Yes, but not with the right women.
00:12:56Which ones, then?
00:12:58I don't know.
00:13:00With crazy people.
00:13:03Lazy people.
00:13:06Or stupid people.
00:13:08Then it's the same for you as it is for me with men.
00:13:11Yes.
00:13:12Maybe a lot of men are extremely corny.
00:13:15Yes, I see that too.
00:13:18It must have something to do with the hormones.
00:13:25Yes.
00:13:29Listen...
00:13:33Here's my card.
00:13:37And, well...
00:13:40We'll talk later.
00:14:12Please check this for me, okay? Thank you.
00:14:21Hey, Allen.
00:14:23Do you want to hear something from me?
00:14:24No, just listen.
00:14:26Saita's girlfriend said that he got three calls that night.
00:14:29All of them after one o'clock.
00:14:31And?
00:14:32Yes, but they all came from Highland Springs.
00:14:34There was someone who complained about the noise.
00:14:36So Frank Stegner was killed because he made too much noise, huh?
00:14:42In New York, maybe, but not here.
00:14:44And what did you get from the owner?
00:14:47Hmm...
00:14:49Dangerous, or... very dangerous.
00:14:52Really?
00:14:54Oh, yes.
00:15:02Here, check these car numbers.
00:15:05What's that supposed to be?
00:15:07I don't know.
00:15:08Maybe another one of those... real estate thugs.
00:15:11Yes, but what about the owner?
00:15:14I'll drive back and check them, right now.
00:15:16So don't bother me there.
00:15:18I'll... I'll call you later.
00:16:13I'll call you later.
00:16:43Trrrr...
00:16:44Trrrr...
00:16:45Trrrr...
00:17:13Hey.
00:17:15Hello.
00:17:19I've got a few problems, Catherine.
00:17:21Do you know Frank Stegner?
00:17:23No.
00:17:27Did you know that he makes his money with real estate?
00:17:29Yes, I already told you.
00:17:31A few times a year we get calls from some people who promise me a lot of money when selling my property.
00:17:37Is that why you came back?
00:17:40No, I would never sell Highland.
00:17:42It's a refuge for me.
00:17:44And I won't lose anything here.
00:17:46Are you going to Highland Springs now?
00:17:49I don't like the city.
00:17:52We'll find horses, Cliff.
00:17:56Yes.
00:17:58Very good.
00:17:59Just don't cry.
00:18:03Why did you call Sy Tarr at night?
00:18:06The music was too loud for me.
00:18:08I called Sy and he said he wanted to check it out.
00:18:12Why didn't you take care of it yourself?
00:18:15Listen, I paid for it, Sy.
00:18:19Do you understand why I'm here, Catherine?
00:18:23Yes.
00:18:24Yes, I have an idea.
00:18:28Why are you moving here?
00:18:31I want to free myself from the people and be alone.
00:18:36Did you live with anyone before?
00:18:38No, I lived alone.
00:18:40I didn't want anyone. I wanted to be alone.
00:18:43I don't understand.
00:18:44What does that have to do with this night?
00:18:46What do you want from me?
00:18:50Did you move out because you feel...
00:18:52Yes.
00:18:53...pressured?
00:18:56Am I bothering you now?
00:18:59Yes.
00:19:03If I'm bothering you, I can understand why you want to be alone.
00:19:06Listen, I didn't do anything to you, right?
00:19:09Frank Stegner didn't do anything to you either. Now he's dead.
00:19:13What's that supposed to mean?
00:19:16And you were the only person who was here.
00:19:19Except for his friends, of course.
00:19:21I have to apologize. I thought you were using your position to become personal.
00:19:27I have to apologize too.
00:19:30For what?
00:19:32That I didn't use my position to become personal.
00:19:36Let's talk again.
00:19:41Will you help me?
00:19:45I think you can do it on your own.
00:19:48Will you help me?

00:33:02Cliff Burton.
00:33:03Do you have a moment?
00:33:04Yes, of course.
00:33:06I'm investigating a murder in Highland Springs, in the north.
00:33:10I assume you've already spoken to Ms. Merrims.
00:33:12I ask the questions, okay?
00:33:15So, what do you want from me?
00:33:17Are you deaf?
00:33:20Tell me something about Catherine Merrims.
00:33:22She couldn't do anything to a fly.
00:33:24How do you know that?
00:33:28I was married to my wife for years.
00:33:31We didn't know anything about each other.
00:33:33Well, Catherine trusted me.
00:33:35Okay?
00:33:36When was the last time you did that?
00:33:38Before the shooting.
00:33:39She called me several times.
00:33:41Really?
00:33:44What time?
00:33:46Two, three o'clock in the morning.
00:33:48She said it was too loud.
00:33:49She couldn't sleep.
00:33:51What do you think she expected from you?
00:33:53She just let off steam.
00:33:55Yes, maybe.
00:33:56But I think she wanted you to do something about it.
00:34:00So what?
00:34:02You see, she doesn't work.
00:34:04She doesn't need an accountant.
00:34:06She doesn't need appointments, because she doesn't have any.
00:34:08And she prefers to stick to her own rules.
00:34:11Oh, really?
00:34:14And what's your role in this?
00:34:16Do you know that?
00:34:17I help her as much as I can.
00:34:20Yes, I see.
00:34:23You understand the business very well.
00:34:25My practice is getting bigger and bigger, yes.
00:34:27You look people in the head and all that.
00:34:31Yes, we do that too.
00:34:33Who?
00:34:35Detectives.
00:34:38You know, if you've been dealing with the, let's say,
00:34:40lowest kind of criminal assholes for years,
00:34:45a feeling for people is slowly developing.
00:34:48What is it about?
00:34:50You know, I don't have time for seminars.
00:34:52I have a patient in a minute.
00:34:54Can I borrow it?
00:34:55You can find it in the library.
00:35:07Did you help her move?
00:35:09A little.
00:35:10Where were you at 4 o'clock last night?
00:35:12In bed. Why do you want to know?
00:35:14Can you prove it?
00:35:15I live alone.
00:35:16I didn't ask you that.
00:35:18Who were you with? With a patient?
00:35:21Well, you don't have to tell me her name.
00:35:26Her name is Ellie Barrett.
00:35:30And now I would like to ask you.
00:35:39Can I use your phone here?
00:35:40Please.
00:35:51Thank you, doctor.
00:35:53Do you mind?
00:36:23Who was the guy with the noble carriage you didn't want to take home with you?
00:36:26I won't tell you that.
00:36:28And why not?
00:36:29What are you doing right now?
00:36:31I'm investigating a murder here, Catherine.
00:36:33How many times do I have to tell you that?
00:36:38What's all this about your therapy?
00:36:40I don't want to talk about it.
00:36:43I'm fed up with therapy and therapists.
00:36:49My parents died when I was 13.
00:36:52And I had to live with an aunt in San Francisco.
00:36:55I couldn't come back here.
00:36:59You know, I was alone that evening.
00:37:02The sheriff came and told me that my parents had died in a plane crash.
00:37:08Anyway, I never got over their death.
00:37:13That's why I started therapy ten years ago.
00:37:18Then a burglar broke into my house.
00:37:22And I was alone again.
00:37:25It seems that your problem is being alone.
00:37:28No, the problem is that I get depressed when I'm alone.
00:37:33Anyway, the therapy was very intense.
00:37:39Finally, I moved to Los Angeles to get rid of the memory.
00:37:43Bill Hook was my neighbor.
00:37:45Yes.
00:37:46Well, he helped me get by, like friends do.
00:37:49But after a while, that was too much for me, and I came back here.
00:37:53A few days ago, I finally decided to stay here.
00:37:57You see what happened?
00:38:00As soon as I got here, someone broke into my private life again.
00:38:08Well...
00:38:11Actually, the murder happened before that.
00:38:15No, I'm talking about something personal, something that affected me internally.
00:38:20It's like I'm being robbed again.
00:38:26I'm ready to talk about myself. Can we talk about you?
00:38:30I'm not ready to question you.
00:38:35But I'm ready to answer.
00:38:40Shall we dance?
00:38:43Yes, maybe.
00:38:45Come.
00:39:05Good morning.
00:39:29Hi.
00:39:34You have a nice appetite.
00:39:38Yes, very nice.
00:39:41I think he's an incredibly interesting guy.
00:39:45Probably fate.
00:39:48I love a murderer.
00:40:11What happened to your marriage?
00:40:16Well...
00:40:22I think she just wanted more than I could give her.
00:40:27My whole life is my work.
00:40:33That was my life.
00:40:37Everyone wants something, I think.
00:40:42What do you want?
00:40:45I want to let go.
00:40:48My past.
00:40:55Why did it take you so long to come back?
00:40:58What do you mean?
00:41:02Well, don't you have a job?
00:41:04No, I don't work.
00:41:07I will...
00:41:10I just don't feel comfortable in stressful situations.
00:41:15You know, I have to water the flowers now.
00:41:40Oh, hello.
00:42:02I would like to speak to Dr. Cecil.
00:42:07My name is Cliff Burden.
00:42:10I'm a police officer at the sheriff's office in Beaumont.
00:42:15I would like to ask about one of his patients.
00:42:20Okay.
00:42:24When did he die?
00:42:28Oh.
00:42:30Then I must have been unlucky, right?
00:42:32Thank you very much.
00:42:34Okay.
00:42:46Cliff...
00:42:49I feel so close to you, but...
00:42:53I'm scared.
00:42:55I need space to breathe.
00:42:57I...
00:42:59I'm getting claustrophobia.
00:43:00What do you mean, you're getting claustrophobia?
00:43:02I...
00:43:03What happens when you get claustrophobia?
00:43:06Don't ask.
00:43:07Yes, I want to know.
00:43:09How long have you been following me?
00:43:11You should be following him.
00:43:13He's following you.
00:43:15I'll talk to my superior, okay?
00:43:17I'll talk to your superior.
00:43:19Look, for 20 years I've been getting my salary check from a company that manages the fortune of Katherine Merrim's loyal hands.
00:43:26I'll never be a rich man.
00:43:28But I'll get by.
00:43:30And now there's a mental patient who wants to take over everything.
00:43:32And they're just going to kill me.
00:43:36What do you mean by a mental patient?
00:43:41Well, I want to explain it to you, sonny boy.
00:43:44You should have listened to the phone tonight.
00:43:47With that I would say this mother has a huge thing.
00:43:50So you mean you killed the guy?
00:43:52I didn't say that.
00:44:52No.
00:44:53I mean independently, without me being constantly on the run.
00:44:57Katherine!
00:44:58If this commissioner keeps coming to you, he'll soon find out something about the murder in San Francisco.
00:45:04Do you want to go to jail?
00:45:06Maybe I'd be right if they resumed the investigation.
00:45:10He mustn't find out about this.
00:45:13Do you understand?
00:45:15What happened, happened.
00:45:19What happened, happened.
00:45:26Are you sure that's true?
00:45:31I would never have believed that Cliff would get involved in something like this.
00:45:37And what do you want from me?
00:45:39That you now hand over the case to me, sir.
00:45:41Officially?
00:45:42No, that would be a politician.
00:45:45If Cliff thinks with his tail, then you do what you have to do.
00:45:52Hello, Commissioner Schott.
00:45:54This is Cliff Burden, police from Beaumont.
00:45:56I'm here to investigate the suicide of Dr. Thomas Cesare.
00:46:00Yes.
00:46:02I need some information about his death and a few documents from your patient file.
00:46:06I also need a report on a Katherine Marans.
00:46:09Yes.
00:46:10Break-in.
00:46:11Briefing is enough.
00:46:13Okay.
00:46:19Tell me, Cliff, did you actually search the house of the owner for a weapon?
00:46:22No, get a search warrant.
00:46:24Shouldn't we have done that a little earlier?
00:46:26Listen, we should have done a lot.
00:46:28Get it already, we're starting now.
00:46:31You were with her, weren't you?
00:46:33Yes, even a few times.
00:46:36You never told me anything about Bill Hook.
00:46:39He helped you with the move-in.
00:46:41She called him that night.
00:46:44But he had an alibi from one of his patients.
00:46:49Her name is Ellie Barrett.
00:46:52I talked to her.
00:46:55You can call her.
00:46:57I'll give you her number, call her yourself, if you want.
00:47:04Yes, Burden?
00:47:09Okay, okay.
00:47:15Hey, I have to go.
00:47:17Who was that?
00:47:18Katherine Marans.
00:47:21Now I've got her on my neck.
00:47:29Right, swing it.
00:47:31Good, good, just like that, just like that, come on.
00:47:34Very good, nice.
00:47:35Keep going.
00:47:37Keep going.
00:47:40Too far.
00:47:41You have to keep going.
00:47:42Okay, it's good.
00:47:44Just a moment, okay?
00:47:46Show me your forearm, your forearm.
00:47:48That's good.
00:47:50Keep going.
00:47:52Keep going, keep going.
00:47:56Come on, baby.
00:47:57Now let's play tennis.
00:47:58Very good.
00:48:00Come on, that's good.
00:48:02Bingo.
00:48:04Come on, hit it hard, Katherine.
00:48:08That's enough, Rick.
00:48:10We'll see each other on Tuesday.
00:48:12Hello, how are you?
00:48:14Thank you for coming.
00:48:16My property management called.
00:48:18Frank Stegner's heir would have contacted her.
00:48:21There are obviously insurance problems.
00:48:24After all, a murder has never happened here.
00:48:26I don't think that's why you called.
00:48:29Oh yeah?
00:48:30No, I think I missed you a little bit.
00:48:33Besides, the fashion is my business.
00:48:35If no one was from here,
00:48:37no one from here can be held responsible.
00:48:39I want to go to the water quickly.
00:48:41Are you coming with me?
00:48:42Maybe.
00:48:47I have to tell you something else, just so you know.
00:48:51Don't take it personally,
00:48:53but you are officially considered a suspect.
00:48:58I have no problem with that.
00:49:01No?
00:49:06Really?
00:49:09That's strange.
00:49:14I've never seen anyone react like that
00:49:16when he's considered a murder suspect.
00:49:18Excuse me, Ms. Katherine.
00:49:20Can I borrow the key to the cleaning room?
00:49:22Ah, here.
00:49:23I don't have any cleaning products left.
00:49:25And I can't find Zai.
00:49:29While you're here,
00:49:30you're losing your mind because of this murder.
00:49:32What about the guy who broke into my house?
00:49:38Why don't you show me?
00:49:41I will.
00:49:44Now.
00:49:54What do you think it was?
00:49:56I don't know.
00:49:58But if he comes back, I'll shoot him.
00:50:01Do you want to shoot him with a broom?
00:50:03I'll find out who it was, Cliff.
00:50:08Come in.
00:50:09I can't.
00:50:10What's wrong?
00:50:12Tell me about Dyron Cook.
00:50:14He's not important. Come in.
00:50:16Yeah, that anyway.
00:50:17So tell me about him.
00:50:18I want to know something about him.
00:50:19There's nothing to tell about him.
00:50:21Come in.
00:50:22You left Los Angeles because of him, right?
00:50:27Are you coming in or not?
00:50:30Listen, honey.
00:50:31We're having fun here like it's our honeymoon.
00:50:35What do you think will happen if the prosecutor sues me?
00:50:44So, what about Dyron Cook?
00:50:47I'm not his guardian and he's not mine.
00:50:51You told me that everyone wants something, right?
00:50:56So what do you want?
00:50:59I want you.
00:51:02Then don't do that to me.
00:51:30You can't get into the water, can you?
00:51:48Does Katherine Mariams come here sometimes?
00:51:51No, she's rather unsociable.
00:51:54Maybe she lets the drinks go to her house?
00:51:57Who thinks so?
00:52:00Ask him. He knows more about her than I do.
00:52:04Listen, Allen.
00:52:06It would be bad if we blocked the investigation because of our prejudices.
00:52:11You know what I mean.
00:52:14It's probably all pretty unclear to you.
00:52:17As if everything is going according to plan.
00:52:20No, what do you mean?
00:52:22A suspicious person.
00:52:25I've lost all my objectivity.
00:52:28I only follow my feelings. There's no proof of that.
00:52:32Okay, let me help. What do you know?
00:52:35What kind of asshole uses his wife's illness?
00:52:39Using her illness for his own personal interests?
00:52:43Don't be so hard on yourself.
00:52:48What?
00:52:50She's a very beautiful woman.
00:52:52I don't understand. Who are you talking about?
00:52:54Who are you talking about?
00:52:56I'm talking about Bill Hoop.
00:52:59I think he killed Frank Stegner.
00:53:01He pushed Katherine Mariams into the school because she dropped him.
00:53:05But I can't prove it.
00:53:08Who the hell do you think I'm talking about?
00:53:24I don't know.
00:53:27I don't know.
00:53:50We need to talk, darling.
00:53:54No.
00:53:56Tell me.
00:53:58I want to know what happened to you and Cesare.
00:54:01How did you kill him?
00:54:07He was obsessed with me.
00:54:09He was so obsessed with me that I had to get out of there.
00:54:13When I did it, he killed himself.
00:54:18And how did he do it?
00:54:23He just burned himself.
00:54:26I know what can happen when someone is so obsessed.
00:54:30But instead of talking to him about it,
00:54:34I just drove away.
00:54:41Why did that happen?
00:54:43You drove him crazy.
00:54:45Just like me now.
00:54:49You give so little of yourself
00:54:52that you make a man want more and more.
00:54:58I don't do it on purpose, Cliff.
00:55:02How can you give up so easily in bed?
00:55:06You know,
00:55:08when you sleep with me
00:55:12and then again in public.
00:55:19I...
00:55:21It's hard for me to trust people.
00:55:25I'm afraid I'll be taken for granted.
00:55:30Then there's two of us.
00:55:32Don't be so hard on yourself.
00:55:41You didn't kill Tom.
00:55:45Believe me when I tell you.
00:55:58Great. Thank you.
00:56:00What's new, Helen?
00:56:02Still no confirmation of Hook's approval.
00:56:05You know what?
00:56:06I don't care if he's a psycho or a hairdresser.
00:56:09I want to know where the hell he was that night
00:56:13The only way to scare him
00:56:15is to get him to talk.
00:56:17Absolutely.
00:56:28I don't want to see you.
00:56:38I don't understand, Kitty.
00:56:41Why this...
00:56:44sudden contempt?
00:56:46What are you doing here?
00:56:48Why did you look through my personal things?
00:56:52I wasn't the one
00:56:54who looked through your things.
00:56:56Yes, you were.
00:56:58You did that to tie me tighter to your leash.
00:57:01But it was broken
00:57:03when you left.
00:57:05I just had to leave.
00:57:07Don't leave me.
00:57:11Don't leave me.
00:57:25That lousy commissioner
00:57:27is polluting your mind.
00:57:30Fuck you.
00:57:38Find a man
00:57:41who has more to offer than I do.
00:57:49Then I'll do it with him.
00:58:00Fuck.
00:58:31Fuck.
00:58:49Morning, Mike.
00:58:51Leave Captain alone.
00:58:53Think about it.
00:59:01What's wrong?
00:59:03We could go for a walk.
00:59:12Why did you call Hook?
00:59:14Out of habit, probably.
00:59:16It's a bad habit.
00:59:18It's no use, Catherine.
00:59:20What do you mean, it's no use?
00:59:22Why did you call Hook and Zay three times?
00:59:26Three times?
00:59:29Three times?
00:59:31Yes, three times.
00:59:33You want to know
00:59:35why I called her three times?
00:59:37Do you want to tell me
00:59:39you don't remember?
00:59:41I... I...
00:59:43I blocked the things, Cliff.
00:59:45I...
00:59:49What happened after that?
00:59:51I...
00:59:53I went to bed and the noise stopped.
00:59:58What happened in San Francisco?
01:00:03You mean...
01:00:07The break-in?
01:00:18Don't worry about it.
01:00:20What?
01:00:21No.
01:00:23It was different.
01:00:25Follow me.
01:00:28Okay.
01:00:58Come on.
01:01:28Come on.
01:01:58Come on.
01:02:28Come on.
01:02:58Shit.
01:03:28Shit.
01:03:58Shit.
01:04:08Hello, Ricky.
01:04:10Hey, Cliff.
01:04:12How are you?
01:04:16You look like you need a drink.
01:04:19Catherine Mariams is our suspect, Cliff.
01:04:23So if she killed someone, it wasn't your fault?
01:04:26No one cares about your case, Cliff.
01:04:28She feels responsible for the suicide of her therapist.
01:04:31Oh, I'm sorry about that.
01:04:33Take her anyway.
01:04:35She needs help, Gabe.
01:04:37You can't help her anymore.
01:04:39You're suspended.
01:04:41I don't understand.
01:04:43What the hell is going on?
01:04:45What are you talking about?
01:04:57Oh, my God.
01:05:01Stop kidding me, Cliff.
01:05:03You're cheating on this woman.
01:05:05And you even tried to submit evidence in a police investigation.
01:05:10Damn it, Gabe. She didn't do it.
01:05:13You hate being a cop.
01:05:18Give me some more time, Gabe.
01:05:20I don't want any more of you.
01:05:22You've known me for a long time.
01:05:24Give me some more time.
01:05:26Give me 24 hours, Gabe.
01:05:28All right.
01:05:30But do it.
01:05:42Go outside and get changed.
01:05:44Okay.
01:05:49Ellie Barrett.
01:05:52Where's Fulk?
01:05:54I don't know where he is.
01:05:56I think you're lying.
01:05:58You're lying even if you say you were with him on the night of the murder.
01:06:03Listen, I have no reason to lie, okay?
01:06:06And I don't need to be ashamed.
01:06:08Oh, did someone say that?
01:06:10I know you sleep with him.
01:06:14That's how it is when you love each other.
01:06:16Yes.
01:06:18Most people only do it with one person.
01:06:24Do you know who Kathryn Marens is?
01:06:26Yes, she's a patient of Bill's.
01:06:29Yes, that's right.
01:06:31Do you know that he constantly watches this woman?
01:06:34In everything she does.
01:06:36What are you talking about, Noah?
01:06:38Is that the man you love?
01:06:40And is that the man you're lying to?
01:06:45Do you want to go to jail?
01:06:47Do you want to be accused of murder?
01:06:50That's what it's all about.
01:07:01You don't even know what you're getting yourself into, honey.
01:07:05I'm sorry.
01:07:14Ellen should look around when I interrogated Ellie Barrett.
01:07:18Someone probably cheated on her.
01:07:24Hey, important tour.
01:07:28I'm taking a flight to San Francisco now.
01:07:32And you're going to Highland Springs.
01:07:34And you're going to watch Kathryn Marens' house.
01:07:37One eye is still enough to see.
01:07:40How do you know that Stegner didn't kill her?
01:07:44Just believe me.
01:08:02Is that true? She never showed you the book?
01:08:05How many times do I have to tell you?
01:08:07It was never called.
01:08:09No ads.
01:08:10No 911 form.
01:08:11Nothing.
01:08:12We have nothing on Kathryn Marens.
01:08:17And the psychiatrist?
01:08:19Suicide.
01:08:20Besides, he sent this Marens a message.
01:08:23Do you have it? Can I see it?
01:08:31Yes.
01:08:35Great.
01:08:39Excuse me.
01:08:42Bill Fouke.
01:08:54Excuse me.
01:08:57Tell Commissioner Stutte that I went for a coffee.
01:09:00I'll be right back.
01:10:40I could have told you that right away.
01:10:43What's going on with this Marens?
01:10:45I talked to the psychiatrist.
01:10:47You know, this guy who's supposed to be dead.
01:10:50And he's not dead at all.
01:10:52He came back to Los Angeles and shot Frank Stegner.
01:10:55How do you mean he's supposed to be dead?
01:10:58He pretended to commit suicide to cover up a murder.
01:11:02What murder are you talking about?
01:11:04Kathryn Marens shot a burglar in the house.
01:11:06A murder.
01:11:07And that's the woman you sleep with every now and then?
01:11:11The psychiatrist picked up the body,
01:11:13brought it to his apartment and put the whole thing on.
01:11:18The two are being charged for a joint crime.
01:11:22Sure.
01:11:23She's just going to get herself some important tour from a lawyer and he's going to get her out of here.
01:11:27Damn it, stop defending her!
01:11:29I want to charge Stegner with a murder.
01:11:32Listen, we're talking about a guy who used this woman's illness against her.
01:11:36He made her think she'd get out of jail.
01:11:39It was an emergency, which it had always been.
01:11:42So you're saying if she thinks that, she has to be sick?
01:11:45Listen, this asshole would do anything to keep Kathryn's life under control.
01:11:49Even kill Frank Stegner.
01:11:51He was terrified that she might be dragged into a real estate business.
01:11:55Because then she would never come back to Los Angeles.
01:12:02Sounds a little crazy.
01:12:05Yes.
01:12:07But it's not.
01:12:18It's just that she was in there because of him and he because of her.
01:12:22And...
01:12:25An exchange business.
01:12:27Kathryn.
01:12:57Kathryn?
01:13:27Kathryn!
01:13:57Kathryn!
01:14:27Kathryn?
01:14:52Kathryn?
01:14:57Kathryn?
01:15:07Benegrete, can't you sleep at all?
01:15:09Seif, where's Kathryn?
01:15:11I don't know, for God's sake.
01:15:12Someone else was murdered.
01:15:14What?
01:15:15Call the police, now!
01:15:18Another murder?
01:15:19Oh my God.
01:15:28Oh my God.
01:15:51Kathryn.
01:15:52Get out.
01:15:53I don't want you to die.
01:15:55Catherine, you love me.
01:15:57No, leave me in peace.
01:15:59I just want to tell you that you are not responsible for anything that has happened.
01:16:04You belong to me alone.
01:16:08I won't let her go!
01:16:10Tommy!
01:16:12The prison will kill her!
01:16:14Tommy!
01:16:15Get out of the way!
01:16:16Tommy, no!
01:16:17Get out of the way!
01:16:18No!
01:16:25Catherine!
01:16:35Catherine!
