00:26News Bytes
00:30The undisputed surprise hit of the year so far, players might be getting their
00:38chance for even more Black Myth Wukong according to recent leaks.
00:41Rumors are that the game's developer GameScience wants to release two possible DLC expansions
00:46in celebration of the Chinese New Year on or around January 29th, 2025.
00:51While this of course has yet to be confirmed, the runaway success of the developer's first major title
00:56has fans eager for any news on DLC or even a potential sequel.
01:00To date, it has been reported Black Myth Wukong has sold over 20 million units in only one month,
01:05making it one of the most successful launches of the year and one of the fastest selling games of all time.
01:18Skate fans have been waiting years for their chance to play the long in-development reboot
01:22of the Skate franchise and their patience has paid off.
01:25EA recently announced that Skate, or more appropriately Skate 4,
01:29will launch in early access at the start of 2025.
01:32This will mark the first time the general public will get a chance to go hands-on with the title
01:36as many playtesters have already had the game for well over two years now.
01:40The Skate series has long been the more realistic option,
01:42as opposed to the Tony Hawk series' over-the-top skateboarding antics.
01:45Skate has developed a loyal following who have been begging EA for a sequel for over a decade.
01:50The devs have also promised Skate 4 won't include any loot boxes
01:54and everything within the game can be unlocked through regular gameplay.
02:08Brick-and-mortar game stores have been struggling in a quickly advancing digital medium
02:12and one of the few still barely surviving is suffering even more upcoming closures.
02:17GameStop announced they would be shutting down even more locations
02:20after closing 287 stores just earlier this year.
02:24Citing lackluster earnings, GameStop has been struggling for years
02:27to keep up with digital sales and the majority of players ordering games online.
02:31GameStop recently began experimenting with some locations offering retro games and systems,
02:36which arguably is what they should have been focusing on years ago,
02:39amidst other recent attempts to capitalize on popular trends like NFTs
02:43in order to boost sales outside of the regular gaming market.
02:47The land is dying.
02:50People are suffering.
02:54Soon...
02:57they'll starve.
02:58In a generation dying for new games,
03:00a remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn has been rated by the ESRB
03:03because why waste resources on new projects
03:06when you can just re-release the same game over and over again, right Sony?
03:10Long rumored to be in development,
03:12original leaks pointed to the game getting a full remake rather than a remaster,
03:16but with the recent rating, that no longer seems to be the case.
03:19Reportedly, the remaster will include improved lighting, overhauled textures,
03:23and updated character and machine models
03:25as well as updates to interactions and conversations to match those of Forbidden West.
03:29Although unconfirmed, the game will likely be revealed
03:32at the long-rumored upcoming State of Play at the end of the month.
03:35It remains unknown if the game will receive a full release
03:38or a small upgrade fee like The Last of Us Part II remastered earlier this year.
03:42You'll be chasing a riddle into a wilderness of mysteries.
03:48AMD wins PS6
03:50Hot off their big announcement of the outrageously priced PS5 Pro last week,
03:54recent rumors and leaks seem to point to Sony already making plans
03:57for their next major console, the PlayStation 6.
04:00According to a new report from Reuters,
04:02AMD has won the contract for their chips to power Sony's next generation of consoles,
04:06narrowly beating out Intel,
04:08which could have seen the manufacturer gain billions in revenue.
04:11Reportedly, the choice to stay with AMD,
04:13which also powers the PS5 and PS5 Pro,
04:16largely came down to the process of switching to Intel,
04:18risking backwards compatibility in the future hardware.
04:21However, before you get too excited about the mere mention of backwards compatibility,
04:25this most likely refers to the PlayStation 6 being able to play PS5
04:29and possibly PS4 games,
04:31rather than anything from PlayStation's extensive retro catalog.
04:34While both Sony and AMD have yet to comment on these rumors,
04:37Sony has stated that the PS5 is in the later stages of its console lifecycle,
04:41so Sony already planning for the next, next generation makes a lot of sense.
04:45Let's just hope the PS6 isn't another $700 upgrade.
04:49The Switch 2
04:56While we already know that Nintendo's follow-up to their insanely successful Switch
05:00is coming in the near future, and from Nintendo themselves, no less,
05:03not much else is known about the upcoming hardware.
05:06However, according to some recently leaked images and information,
05:09which we encourage everyone to take with a big heaping helping of salt,
05:13we might have gotten our first look at the next generation of the Switch.
05:17Apparently named the Switch 2, because if it ain't broke, don't fix it,
05:20the images show that Nintendo seems to be iterating on the original Switch rather than innovating.
05:25Beyond some minimal surface-level changes,
05:27the majority of upgrades seem to be under the hood.
05:29The Switch 2 will reportedly have an 8-inch display,
05:32a whopping 256GB of storage,
05:35far surpassing the current Switch's standard 32GB,
05:38and will support HDMI 2.1,
05:40allowing the Switch 2 to offer 4K display when docked,
05:43and 1080p in handheld mode.
05:45The Switch 2 has also reportedly been developed with backwards compatibility in mind,
05:49so all you physical copy fanatics out there won't need to leave your library behind to upgrade.
05:54Nintendo naturally has yet to comment on any of these recent leaks,
05:57but we likely won't have to wait long for the Switch 2's reveal,
06:00as Nintendo is reportedly looking to launch their successor sometime in early 2025.
06:05Really missed out on the opportunity to call it the Super Switch there, Nintendo.
06:13Battlefield returns to boots on the ground.
06:25There's no denying the once-beloved shooter series Battlefield has been struggling in recent years,
06:29particularly after the abysmal launch and reception of Battlefield 2042.
06:33However, at a recent Investor Day 2024,
06:36Respawn's CEO and current head of Battlefield, Vince Zampella,
06:39revealed the series is looking back to its glory days for its next iteration.
06:43Citing the wildly popular Battlefield 3 and 4,
06:45Zampella announced that the series would be returning to a modern-day setting,
06:49along with revealing the numerous studios currently working on the upcoming title.
06:52With the main Battlefield team at DICE developing multiplayer,
06:55Criterion Games is working on the single-player and support for multiplayer,
06:58while EA Motive is working solely on the single-player campaign.
07:02Zampella also revealed that Ripple Effect, a sub-studio of DICE,
07:05would be working on a new experience in the Battlefield universe.
07:08During the stage presentation, alongside a piece of concept art,
07:11Zampella conveyed his desire to get back to peak Battlefield
07:14with 64-player maps and classes,
07:16as well as the return of the massive destruction the series was known for.
07:24This wasn't the only major announcement to come out of EA's Investor Day,
07:27as Respawn announced they were currently developing the final chapter
07:30in their Star Wars Jedi series.
07:32According to EA, the single-player-focused Star Wars series has sold over 40 million copies
07:36and is considered a surprise hit for the publisher,
07:38who notoriously cancelled numerous single-player-focused Star Wars projects,
07:42including Amy Hennig's Project Ragtag Game.
07:45While no further information is known at this time,
07:47creative director of both Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor,
07:50Stig Asmussen, who left the studio last year,
07:53previously revealed Cal's story was always planned as a trilogy from the start
07:56and the team had the series' timeline fleshed out.
08:10Annapurna Interactive Mass Resignation
08:22You might not immediately know the publisher by name,
08:24but you will undoubtedly recognize the games they help bring to players everywhere.
08:28Annapurna Interactive is responsible for releasing
08:30some of the most critically acclaimed and inventive indie titles of the last decade.
08:34Games such as Stray, Neon White, What Remains of Edith Finch,
08:38and most recently Cocoon have all received widespread acclaim from both critics and gamers.
08:42However, earlier this week, the entire staff of roughly 25 employees resigned
08:47after negotiations for the studio to spin off from Annapurna
08:50to become an independent studio fell through.
08:52The former staff released a statement that their decision to resign was not taken lightly.
08:56And although Annapurna has reassured the many developers
08:59who were working with the gaming subsidiary
09:01that there would be no interruptions for their games' releases,
09:03the studio is understandably scrambling to fill the many empty roles at the publisher.
09:08At a time when the industry is posting record profits
09:10but continuing to lay off developers and staff,
09:12things are shifting in a different direction,
09:14focusing more on shareholders and profits to the detriment of developers and gamers.
09:19The gaming industry is in desperate need of an overhaul.
09:22From ballooning game budgets to overworked and underpaid developers,
09:25it seems like things will continue to get worse before they get better.
09:34Nintendo's gotta catch em all.
09:43It would seem that the Pokemon with guns game Palworld
09:46has finally caught the attention of Nintendo's legal team,
09:48who are now suing developer Pocket Pair for patent infringement.
09:51Long compared to the worldwide phenomenon Pokemon,
09:54Pocket Pair has remained steadfast
09:56that they never willingly infringed on anyone else's character designs,
09:59but Nintendo doesn't feel the same.
10:01As pointed out by many Pokemon enthusiasts
10:04ever since Palworld's launch in January of this year,
10:06some of the designs skewed a bit too close to Game Freak's designs to be just a coincidence.
10:11Some diehard Pokemon fans even took to comparing
10:14the wireframes of Palworld's pals and their Pokemon counterparts
10:17and the similarities are oftentimes striking.
10:20Nintendo has a long history of using legal means to protect their intellectual properties
10:24and most recently won a record-breaking $15 million suit
10:28against the developers of the mobile title Pocket Monster Reissue,
10:31which blatantly plagiarized numerous Pokemon and character designs.
10:35Pocket Pair has responded,
10:37stating that they are unaware of which patents they've infringed on,
10:40while promising to fight Nintendo in court over the suit
10:43to ensure that indie developers are not hindered or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas.
10:48Nintendo has gotten a lot of pushback from fans over the years
10:51due to the company threatening YouTube creators, among many others,
10:54over seemingly ridiculous lawsuits,
10:56but it seems their legal team took their time to build a case against Palworld
11:00before filing their claim.
11:02We hope both companies come to an amicable resolution,
11:05but given Nintendo's track record,
11:07things don't look good for Pocket Pair and their pals.
11:13Thanks for watching. Check out more great videos here.
