00:00Hi, it's Camille and Cody with Muddling Memories.
00:02We are ready for sweater weather.
00:04We are ready for autumn.
00:06There's a cool, crisp breeze in the air
00:08and we are ready to show you
00:09how to make the perfect margarita for this season.
00:13So we're gonna start with our pumpkin spice syrup.
00:16We have our pot.
00:17We have our hot plate here.
00:19So we're gonna cook this
00:20and we're gonna add our ingredients as we go.
00:22We'll tell you what we have.
00:23So first off, of course,
00:25for any syrup, you need some sort of sweetener.
00:26So this is our sugar.
00:27We're gonna add that directly into our pot.
00:29Next up, we're gonna add in our cinnamon.
00:32We're gonna add about five sticks directly in.
00:35Next up, of course,
00:35you can't make pumpkin spice syrup without pumpkin.
00:38So we have our pumpkin puree.
00:40And this is the stuff straight out of the can, right, Cody?
00:42It is, yeah.
00:43So this is what you would make
00:43if you're making like pumpkin pie or pumpkin cheesecake.
00:46It's not very sweet,
00:48but it has a delicious pumpkin essence.
00:50So we added that directly into our pot.
00:53Grated ginger.
00:54Fresh ginger makes all the difference in the world.
00:57That's gonna add that little bit of kick,
00:58a little bit of spice, and a little bit of heat.
01:01So we're gonna add our nutmeg.
01:02And then, of course-
01:03And this is all fresh grated.
01:04Like we have it very nice for you,
01:05but everything is fresh.
01:06When in doubt, go fresh if you can, right?
01:09Yeah, 100%.
01:10And so this is also fresh.
01:11This is fresh clove that we're gonna add.
01:12That warming element that you desperately want
01:16during pumpkin season.
01:17We have our water.
01:18So we turn this on
01:19and we're gonna bring this to a little bit of a boil.
01:21Camille's gonna just stir it around
01:23to marry all the ingredients in there.
01:24Yeah, so Cody, like essentially what we're doing right now
01:27is we're making a simple syrup.
01:29That's like flavored.
01:30Correct.
01:31So the syrup itself is really just like sugar to water,
01:33say equal parts.
01:34And then we're just adding a flavor to it.
01:36So, you know, if let's say you don't like clove,
01:39let's say you don't like nutmeg,
01:40you can really just keep it pumpkin and cinnamon, you know?
01:43It's up to you.
01:44And I mean, honestly, truthfully, this can go,
01:48I mean, and you'll see later the way it comes out
01:50when we're finished, but this can go in your coffees,
01:53this can go in your teas.
01:54It doesn't have to be this cocktail.
01:55Syrups like this have such a lovely shelf life
01:57for the refrigerator.
01:58And this is also a really great thing
01:59to make the day of a holiday,
02:01because not only do you have a delicious syrup
02:03to add into your cocktails or your coffee or tea,
02:07but your whole house will smell like this.
02:08So you can leave it up on the stove
02:10and then you have this beautiful fragrance
02:13of pumpkin spice just throughout the house.
02:15We boiled our syrup.
02:17We're gonna actually bring it down to a simmer
02:19for about four or five minutes.
02:21Once it's fully simmered,
02:22we're gonna take it off the plate.
02:24We're gonna allow it to cool for about 20 to 30 minutes
02:27to come to room temp.
02:28Then we're gonna strain it through either a cheesecloth
02:30or any kind of strainer that you have
02:32just to get all those bigger pieces,
02:34like the cinnamon sticks,
02:35and if there's any ginger that's lingering around.
02:37Wanna clarify this syrup a little bit.
02:38So I'm gonna take this off.
02:40We're gonna bring this over
02:41and we're gonna get it bottled and ready to go.
02:43So we have our finished product.
02:45So we have cooled, strained,
02:47and bottled our pumpkin spice syrup,
02:49and it has this beautiful caramel golden color to it.
02:53Before we get started on producing the margarita,
02:55we need to garnish the glass the right way.
02:57And of course, margaritas always are elevated
03:00with a little bit of salt,
03:00but this one's special
03:01because we have a little bit of a cinnamon salt rim.
03:03So essentially the lime juice
03:05is really just acting as the binder for the cinnamon salt.
03:09And I know cinnamon salt sounds a little weird,
03:11but it actually, with this cocktail
03:13and all the sweetness from the syrup,
03:15as well as from the orange liqueur that we're gonna put in,
03:19it really is lovely and balanced.
03:21So we're gonna start building our cocktail in our shakers,
03:23and this is a three-piece shaker right here.
03:25So it has three pieces.
03:26We have our cap, we have our strainer,
03:29and then of course we have our shaker tin.
03:31So we're gonna build our drink directly
03:32into our shaker tin to start.
03:34Tequila, margarita, best friend.
03:39So we're actually using a Reposado tequila for this recipe.
03:43Reposado means rested.
03:44So it means that it's had some time to sit
03:47and age a little bit more than a Blanco tequila.
03:49Of course you can use Blanco, it works,
03:50but we chose Reposado because it goes really nicely
03:53with the spices and the flavors
03:55within the syrup that we're using.
03:57Okay, so we've added our tequila,
03:59and tequila loves lime.
04:01Loves lime, best friends.
04:02So we're gonna add a half an ounce of lime juice
04:05in with our margarita.
04:07I'm gonna squeeze, you can use a squeezer.
04:08Yeah, I'm gonna use the squeezer,
04:09and it's really important when you're using a lime
04:12or a lemon, make sure it's face down
04:14whenever you're using a hand juicer
04:15so that all the juice goes down and not up in your eyes.
04:19So we're gonna squeeze that in.
04:21The great thing about limes too
04:22is that one lime usually yields about one ounce of liquid,
04:25so cut it in half, you get half and half,
04:27which makes two drinks, which is great.
04:29All right, so we've added in our lime,
04:31we've added in our tequila.
04:32We're gonna add in our pumpkin
04:35because this is a pumpkin margarita.
04:37So we have our pumpkin puree here,
04:39and we're gonna do about a tablespoon
04:42directly into the shaker.
04:43It's like a heaping spoonful, basically.
04:43Yeah, it's like a good-sized spoonful of pumpkin.
04:47And this is just your regular canned pumpkin,
04:49which is great.
04:51And then lastly, we're gonna add in our-
04:54Orange liqueur.
04:55Orange liqueur. Yep.
04:56So we're gonna do our orange liqueur.
04:58We're gonna pour that about half an ounce
05:02directly into our shaker,
05:03and then do you mind if I give you some as well?
05:06All right, great.
05:08All right, so the star of the show
05:09is our pumpkin spice syrup.
05:11We're gonna be adding a little under an ounce of this
05:14directly into our shaker,
05:15and this is what's gonna give it that delicious pumpkin
05:17and baking spice flavor.
05:20And if I can pour some in for you.
05:22Yep.
05:23Oh my goodness, look at that pumpkin.
05:25Yeah, and can you smell it?
05:27Oh.
05:27Yeah, it's just, that's everything you want for the fall.
05:30Add in our ice.
05:31We're gonna give this a good shake.
05:32We're gonna add some dilution to our cocktail.
05:35Dilution's really important
05:36because dilution is what helps balance
05:38all those notes of sweet, sour, and spirit.
05:41It just brings them all down a notch
05:43and just balances them out.
05:45We also need ice or glass, too.
05:47Very important.
05:47So, fresh ice.
05:49Always fresh ice into our glass.
05:51We don't call what's a dirty dump,
05:53which is shaking and then dumping all of the ice
05:56that's been shaken into the glass,
05:58because again, it's gonna be diluted and watered down.
06:00All right, so fun part, this is our workout for the day.
06:02We get to shake our cocktails.
06:05You ready for it?
06:06Yeah, let's do it.
06:07Give it a little tap.
06:08Here we go.
06:12Gotta make sure your tin is frosty.
06:14That's how you know that it's ready to drink.
06:16It's also important to make sure
06:17that the ice bounces back and forth between the shaker.
06:20You don't wanna shake like this.
06:22You also don't wanna shake like this.
06:23Right, you want it to not pick up the top and the bottom.
06:26Pretty hard. That's what breaks down the ice.
06:27That'll break down the ice.
06:29All right, so we're gonna crack open our shaker.
06:31Oh, my goodness.
06:32I'm so ready for this. You can already smell it.
06:34Beautiful color.
06:35I mean. Look at that.
06:37So, now that we have these beautiful pumpkin margaritas
06:39just sitting there waiting for us to enjoy,
06:41we also just need to garnish them
06:43because they have to look as pretty as they're gonna taste.
06:45So, we're gonna take some lime wheels
06:47and we're gonna put those either on the top of the glass
06:49or you can drop it inside, whichever you prefer.
06:52I like to just notch it and put it on the top.
06:54Yeah, and what we did with the lime, right,
06:55is we've taken a-
06:57Yeah, so you cut the lime-
06:59Through the belly, and then we cut a little slit
07:01just to make sure that the lime can sit nicely in the glass.
07:04Correct.
07:06And then, of course, to reinforce those baking spices,
07:09we have to add in our cinnamon stick.
07:12Aromatic, looks beautiful, and as it sits in the drink,
07:15you'll also get a little bit more of that cinnamon note.
07:18And this is our pumpkin margarita.
07:20Yours looks beautiful, by the way.
07:21So does yours.
07:22Thank you. Yum.
07:23Cheers. Cheers.
07:24Enjoy.
07:25Happy fall, guys.
07:26This looks amazing.
07:28Okay, that is, that's, it's actually ridiculous.
07:33This is-
07:34Tastes like pumpkin pie with tequila.
07:36Let's sit on the couch, let's take a blanket,
07:38let's start a fire, let's put on a scary movie,
07:41and let's drink this pumpkin margarita.
07:42Sounds amazing.
07:43Let's do it. Great.
07:44Cheers.
