00:00Do you have trouble sticking to a healthy lifestyle?
00:02You know what you need to do and you have a plan, but you can't seem to stick to it.
00:07It's a rather common problem.
00:09In this video, I'm going to talk about five things that you could do to set yourself up
00:12for success so you can finally live that healthy lifestyle that you envision.
00:17Okay, the first thing, and I think this is the most important.
00:21If you don't do any of the other tips in this video, just do this one.
00:24I think it'll make a huge difference.
00:27That is to find out what truly motivates you because if you don't have a strong motivating
00:34factor, you're not going to stick to your healthy plan for very long.
00:39Now let me explain.
00:40So by motivating factor, I'm not talking about something that's going to motivate you short
00:44term.
00:45For example, weight loss is a motivator for sure, but it's a short term motivator.
00:50So people are motivated until they lose the weight and then they go back to their old
00:55ways and then they regain the weight in some cases.
00:58So what I'm talking about is figuring out things that will motivate you long term so
01:04that you can make those lifestyle changes and really stick to them for the long haul
01:09and not just for a couple months.
01:12I can illustrate this better with an example.
01:14So I had a client who did everything to a T and it was amazing because most people can't
01:21follow plans to a T and I don't expect them to either.
01:24But she was really, really motivated so I asked her, what's motivating you?
01:28What's keeping you going because you're doing an amazing job?
01:31So she had a really interesting thing to say.
01:33Her main motivating factor was not to lose weight.
01:36It was something she was trying to do.
01:38She was trying to lose weight, but that was not her main motivation.
01:41Her main motivation was to set a good example for her daughter.
01:45She wanted to become a role model for her daughter so her daughter could learn healthy
01:48habits as well.
01:50And I think that was amazing because it's such a strong motivating factor and something
01:55that's going to motivate her every single day.
01:58So even if she falls off the wagon for a couple days, she'll get back on it because she has
02:03that strong motivating factor.
02:05Now obviously that motivating factor may not work for you, what works for you may not work
02:10for me.
02:11We're all different.
02:12But I wanted to give you that as an example.
02:14Now an example of what motivates me is my mother passed away when I was 28.
02:19She was only 51.
02:20She had a heart attack and it was a result of diabetes.
02:23And diabetes is a lifestyle disease, obviously has a genetic component, but it's mainly lifestyle.
02:31You can prevent diabetes if you take care of yourself.
02:34So for me, my main motivating factor for becoming a holistic nutritionist and taking care of
02:39myself is to prevent diabetes.
02:42Now what I suggest you do is sit down, get a piece of paper, get a pen, brainstorm.
02:49Figure out what it is that motivates you, write everything down, whatever pops up in
02:53your head.
02:54There's no wrong motivating factor.
02:56Once you've written down a couple factors, figure out which one really means the most
03:01to you and which one is a long-term motivating factor.
03:05And you know what?
03:06Write that down on a post-it note, stick it up on your fridge or a mirror that you look
03:11at every day.
03:12It's a constant reminder as to why you're actually on this healthy plan and why you're
03:17trying to live a healthier lifestyle.
03:20So number two is time management.
03:24So a lot of people who come to me as clients, they know that they need to eat healthy and
03:29it's going to require some cooking, but they can't seem to find the time.
03:32Now I know we live very busy lives today.
03:35It's not like it used to be, but we all have 24 hours in the day and some people can manage
03:40to do a lot more than others.
03:42And I think it comes down to time management, efficiency, and you know, asking for help
03:47when you need it.
03:48My suggestion is to figure out where you spend your time.
03:51So for three days, write down a time journal.
03:54Every single hour of yours, account it.
03:57This is going to be a little bit tedious, but it's going to give you a really good picture.
04:00When I did this, I figured out how much time I was spending on social media and on my phone,
04:05just aimlessly scrolling and you know what?
04:09That is time that you could use for other things, for cooking, for meal prep, for exercise,
04:15for meditation, for all the things that you think you don't have time for.
04:20Number three, make cooking more enjoyable.
04:23So when it comes to healthy eating, cooking is usually part of the process because I believe
04:28that it's much better to have home cooked meals because no matter how well you try to
04:32eat when you're out, you really don't know the ingredients that they're using and you
04:36don't have control over what they're put in their food.
04:38But when you're cooking at home, you have a lot more control, but I do understand that
04:42not everybody likes cooking.
04:43I didn't like cooking when I first started, but you have to realize when it comes to long-term
04:49health, enjoying cooking and making less of a chore goes a really long way.
04:55So I have a video on how to make cooking more enjoyable.
04:57I'm going to link it in the description box below.
05:00So watch the video.
05:01But the one tip I wanted to share here is to embrace experimentation because the more
05:06you experiment in the kitchen, the more you figure out what you enjoy, the more you're
05:10going to enjoy cooking.
05:13Number four, let go of perfection.
05:17So I can't count how many times I've had clients come to me and they start the plan really
05:23well and two weeks in something happens, life happens or they've got something going on
05:30or they're busy, they've gone on vacation and they fall off the wagon completely and
05:36never get back on it because in their mind, they need to do the plan perfectly.
05:42But I don't agree with that way of looking at health.
05:46Health is not about being perfect all the time.
05:48It's about doing what you can and doing the best.
05:51So let's say, you know, it's Friday and you feel like you really need a piece of cake.
05:58Enjoy it.
05:59Don't beat yourself up for it.
06:00Don't feel like you need to punish yourself with an extra workout the next day.
06:04You don't need to do that.
06:05And don't use that cake on Friday as an excuse to eat poorly on Saturday and Sunday so you
06:11can start on Monday.
06:13Don't do that.
06:14That's not the way to go because that is the perfectionist attitude.
06:17Oh, I didn't have a perfect weekend.
06:19So you know what, I'm just going to be bad all weekend and then I'm going to do well
06:24on Monday.
06:25It doesn't need to be like that.
06:26Do your best every day and when you want to indulge, don't beat yourself up for it
06:31because you are in this for the long haul.
06:34Not for the short term.
06:35For the long haul.
06:36So strive for progress, not perfection.
06:42Number five.
06:43Find a buddy.
06:44Now this person is someone who's going to help you stay accountable.
06:47It doesn't need to be someone who's doing the healthy eating and living plan with you.
06:52It just needs to be someone who you're comfortable with and someone who can push you.
06:56Talk to your buddy once a week or once in two weeks, whatever works for you, and tell
07:01them what your progress is and where your setbacks are and see if they can give you
07:05some sort of advice or their opinions on the matter and they can help push you in the right
07:11direction.
07:12I find that when we have someone to talk to and someone who will keep us accountable,
07:17we're more likely to stick to a plan as opposed to just doing it on our own.
07:21So those are the five things.
07:23I hope you enjoyed the video and you learned something new.
07:25If you did, give it a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe.
07:29I create videos like this every week.
07:31And before you go, let me know in the comment box below, what are some of your main struggles
07:36when it comes to eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle?
07:40I'd love to hear from you and you know, maybe some of your ideas could become topics for
07:44videos.
07:45Anyway, I will see you in the next video.
07:47Bye.
