00:26Corbett of Abernethy then made vulgar remarks towards the girl.
00:30She slapped him and told him to get away, but he did not.
00:33The now 21-year-old was today sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow, having earlier
00:39been convicted of rape.
00:42The hearing was told that there had been a suggestion in a background social work report
00:47of an alternative to custody for Corbett, but Judge Lady Haldane ruled that out and
00:53jailed him for three years and nine months for an attack which left the victim significantly
00:59affected.
01:01Corbett, who had latterly been working as a refuse collector, was also placed on the
01:07sex offenders list.
01:09Corbett had denied the crime, insisting anything that occurred was consensual.
01:14His lawyer today said he continued to protest his innocence.
01:18Brian McConachie, KC Defending, also told the court,
01:22�For what it is worth, and it may be worth nothing, it seems to me that the actions of
01:28Mr. Corbett during the course of this offence are indicative of someone who got his sexual
01:33education from watching pornography and thought that was how he should behave.�
01:39Mr. McConachie stated the pre-sentencing report had said custody was �the most likely option.�
01:47But he added, unusually in his experience for such a crime, there had been mention in
01:52it of Corbett being dealt with other than by being jailed.
01:56Lady Haldane went on to state she had considered all factors, including the guidelines for
02:02sentencing those under 25.
02:07The judge said, �There is a suggestion in the social work report that a non-custodial
02:12disposal may be considered essentially due to your young age at the time.�
