Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has announced that Labour's flagship Employment Rights Bill will be presented before parliament next month. She said the legislation would repeal "anti-worker laws" introduced by the Conservatives, end zero hour contracts and fire and rehire and bring in new protections for workers from day one of employment. 00:00So, when I took on this job, I promised the biggest upgrade to workers' rights in a generation,
00:06nothing less than a new deal for working people.
00:20And I can confirm today that the Employment Rights Bill will be tabled in Parliament next
00:25month.
00:26I said we couldn't do it, some tried to stop it in its tracks, but after years of opposition
00:31we are on the verge of historic legislation to make work more secure, make it more family
00:37friendly, go further and faster to close the gender pay gap, ensure rights are enforced
00:42and trade unions are strengthened.
00:45That means repealing the Tories' anti-worker laws, a new right for union reps too, a genuine
01:02living wage and sick pay for the lowest earners, banning exploitative zero-hour contracts and
01:08unpaid internships, ending fire and rehire.
01:12And we will bring in basic rights from day one on the job.
