00:00One airline passenger learns the hard way that former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson
00:05is still not to be messed with. You'll want to forget about asking any of these stars
00:10for an autograph. Maria Sharapova is one of the biggest names in tennis history.
00:15During her peak, she was the highest-paid female athlete for 11 years straight.
00:19But Sharapova also had a reputation amongst her peers for being distant and icy at times.
00:25Sharapova, however, was unrepentant about it. She told the New York Post,
00:30"'I'm not really close to many players. I think just because you're in the same sport,
00:34it doesn't mean that you have to be friends with everyone.'"
00:37One anonymous coach told the New York Post,
00:40"'Even if the players don't like each other, they converse and are cordial.'
00:43That is definitely not the case with Maria."
00:46And rumors have circulated about Sharapova's attitude away from the sport as well.
00:51In 2007, the tennis star was reportedly rude behind the scenes of a Vogue photoshoot. It was
00:57reported that the star refused to eat the food catered on the set and only changed her attitude
01:02when the paparazzi came around. In 1997, Golden State Warriors star Latrell Sprewell and head
01:09coach P.J. Carlesimo started having problems when Sprewell took offense to being benched
01:14during a game against the Los Angeles Lakers. During a subsequent practice, Sprewell warned
01:20Carlesimo to stay away from him. When Carlesimo didn't, Sprewell snapped, grabbing the coach by
01:26the throat and choking him. Sprewell was thrown out of the practice but returned 20 minutes later
01:32and attacked Carlesimo again, punching him. Sprewell later lamented how the resulting
01:37media firestorm affected his reputation, telling ESPN,
01:41"'What I did was wrong. But when you sit back and watch it take off,
01:45you realize you have no control over it. Once the media got hold of it,
01:49it wasn't coming back. It was me against the world at that point."
01:53"'It was just a buildup of anger and frustration,
01:56just having it all bottled up and not being able to express myself.'"
02:00Sprewell ultimately served a 68-game suspension and was traded away to the New York Knicks.
02:06Former soccer star Joey Barton's history of violent conduct and shady behavior is so
02:11comprehensive and lengthy that it's almost impossible to cover all his transgressions.
02:17And it wasn't just opposing players that he took out his anger on.
02:20He was also famous for attacking both fans and his own teammates.
02:24During a holiday party in 2004, Barton got into it with his own Manchester City teammate.
02:30He stubbed a lit cigar into Jamie Tandy's eye, leaving him with a burnt eyelid. Tandy successfully
02:37sued Barton, and the team fined him. But in 2007, they were forced to take stronger action,
02:43when Barton attacked teammate Ousmane Dibou during practice.
02:47Dibou was sent to the emergency room with a suspected detached retina.
02:51He sued Barton and pressed charges. Barton ultimately received a four-month suspended
02:56prison sentence and was dumped by the team. He also fought a 15-year-old fan in Thailand,
03:02broke a pedestrian's leg in a car accident, was arrested for suspected assault on a taxi driver,
03:08and eventually spent 74 days in jail for severely beating a man outside a bar.
03:14He also served numerous suspensions for violent behavior such as punching an opponent in the
03:18groin. And since retiring, he has been in court multiple times on various assault charges.
03:25On the field, Barry Bonds was a legend. The former San Francisco Giant put up career,
03:31home-run hitting numbers that made history and made him millions in endorsement deals.
03:36Off the field, though, he was legendary for his temper and bad attitude. In 2011,
03:41his dirty laundry played out in court with his ex-girlfriend, testifying to his volatile temper.
03:47Bonds was accused of perjuring himself to a grand jury about his past steroid use.
03:52His girlfriend, Kimberly Bell, testified that he used steroids,
03:56which in turn made him more controlling and angry during their relationship.
04:00I would hear everything from, I'm gonna kill you, I'm gonna cut your head off.
04:04I mean, you name it. He was a very angry man like that.
04:07Bonds' steroid use and emotional abuse aside, fans also found him rude and arrogant. He also
04:13gave the media a hard time, and generally seemed unapproachable. It's behavior that he told NBC
04:19Sports he now regrets. I'm to blame for the way I was portrayed, because I was a dumbass. I was
04:25straight stupid, and I'll be the first to admit it. I mean, I was just flat-out dumb, what can I
04:30say? I'm not going to try to justify the way I acted toward people. I was stupid."
04:35Despite being one of the most popular and famous athletes in history,
04:39Michael Jordan isn't known for his approachability. It isn't exactly a huge surprise.
04:45After all, this is a guy who famously used his Hall of Fame acceptance speech to call out old
04:51beefs. One beef he didn't mention, though, was his supposed snubbing of rapper Chameleonaire.
04:57In 2009, Chameleonaire claimed in a livestream that after dropping more than $7,000 on a signed
05:03Jordan jersey, he tried to get Jordan to pose for a photo with him.
05:07He said,
05:08"'Aw, hell nah, man. I ain't taking no pictures with no b----.'"
05:11The rapper said that even when other basketball stars tried to intervene,
05:15Jordan just doubled down.
05:17"'Paul Pierce,' one of them was like,
05:19yo, hey man, chill out, that's Chameleonaire, man. He was like, I don't give a b----.'"
05:24Still, it's possible Jordan learned from the experience. In 2017,
05:29rapper 2 Chainz had no problem getting a photo with the GOAT.
05:33On the football field, Bill Romanowski was a controversial figure. He landed in trouble
05:38frequently for his violent outbursts and was at the receiving end of hefty fines by the NFL.
05:43In 1997, while playing for the Denver Broncos, Romanowski broke Carolina Panther quarterback
05:49Carey Collins' jaw and was fined $20,000. Two years later, he once again harmed his
05:55opponents with illegal hits and was fined $42,500. His violent outbursts haven't just
06:02been toward opponents, though. Romanowski had a run-in with his own teammate that resulted
06:06in a lawsuit. In 2003, Romanowski punched Marcus Williams in the face.
06:12Williams suffered a broken eye socket that ended his career. After successfully suing Romanowski,
06:18he was awarded $340,000. And Romanowski's current career as an NFL commentator
06:24has been just as controversial. In 2016, for example, he drew accusations of racism after
06:31he tweeted about star quarterback Cam Newton, who is Black, and said,
06:35"'The world doesn't revolve around you, boy.'"
06:37Avoiding a fight with Mike Tyson should be considered common sense at this point.
06:42Though the famous boxer has seemingly chilled out in recent years, it's best not to test him.
06:47Making the former heavyweight champion upset is a dangerous game to play.
06:51Yet some fans have been up for the risk. In 2022, Tyson made headlines when he punched a passenger
06:58on a plane multiple times in the face. Ultimately, though, police declined to bring charges against
07:03Tyson after it was determined that the inebriated passenger had been poking and provoking Tyson.
07:09He also reportedly threw a water bottle at the former boxer.
07:12Tyson later told Jimmy Kimmel that he felt remorse over how he handled the situation.
07:17I shouldn't have done it, but I was just irritated, tired, and high, and pissed off.
07:22Yeah, s*** happened.
07:23But it's not just fans who can quickly agitate him. The champ also doesn't like journalists.
07:28In one tense interview on CP24 Toronto News,
07:32Tyson went off on a reporter for bringing up his past rape conviction.
07:36So interesting, because you come across like a nice guy, but you're really a piece of s***.
07:39Hey, come on, come on.
07:41No, I'm not with a piece of s***.
07:42The reporter then attempted, unsuccessfully,
07:45to smooth things over by reminding Tyson that they were on live television.
07:49I don't care. What are you going to do about it?
07:51Those are definitely terrifying words coming from a man who beats people up as a profession.
07:56If you're a football fan, the name Ray Carruth will give you chills.
08:00The former wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers went from a star player
08:04to the main suspect in a horrific murder investigation.
08:08Carruth plotted to kill his then-girlfriend,
08:11Sharika Adams, and their unborn baby in 1999, after she refused to have an abortion.
08:17Adams, who was eight months pregnant at the time of the shooting,
08:20was shot four times as she drove home.
08:22Carruth, who was in a separate car, allegedly used his vehicle to block her in
08:27so she couldn't safely escape from the shooter he had hired.
08:30After the shooting, Adams managed to muster up enough strength to call the police.
08:35In the heartbreaking 911 call, she told operators that she suspected Carruth was behind the shooting.
08:41At the hospital, doctors performed an emergency C-section and managed to save the baby.
08:46Sadly, Adams died just four weeks later from her injuries.
08:50Her mother ended up raising the child, Chancellor Lee Adams, who was born with cerebral palsy.
08:55During the court case, it was argued that Carruth hired the hitman to kill Adams and
08:59their unborn child to get out of paying future child support.
09:03In 2001, Carruth was convicted of conspiring to murder Adams and served 18 years in prison
09:09before being released in 2018.
