00:12games with great multiplayer modes.
00:14Now for this list, we'll be focusing only on each game's respective multiplayer offerings,
00:19regardless of the quality of the single-player experience.
00:21So sorry, no Call of Duty here.

00:45Pokemon Stadium
00:54In 1999, Pokemania was at its absolute peak.
00:57With the release of Pokemon Red and Blue for the original Game Boy in 1996, Pikachu and
01:02the rest of the Pocket Monsters took the world by storm.
01:05With the release of the N64 in the same year, fans were eager to see how training and battling
01:10would translate to 3D.
01:12Enter Pokemon Stadium.
01:23Once you finished the main story, you and up to three friends could battle it out in
01:26the stadium mode with rental Pokemon, or of course, use your own imported Pokemon, provided
01:31you had the transfer pack.
01:33More importantly, however, is Kids Club, where you can find the nine minigames we've all
01:37come to know and love over the years.
01:39From Magikarp's Splash to Sushi Go Round, we've put countless hours into trying to
01:44be the very best like no one ever was at these addictive minigames.
01:48I'm still dramatized by Clefairy, I'm just saying.
01:57Far Cry 3
02:05The story of Far Cry 3 is one of the best in the series, and Michael Mando's portrayal
02:09of Vos Montenegro and his Definition of Insanity monologue is one of the most iconic we've
02:14ever seen in a game.
02:19Aside from that, the multiplayer modes in Far Cry 3 are not to be ignored, offering
02:24both a cooperative mission-based mode and much more popular competitive online shooter
02:28experience.
02:34Here Far Cry does its best Call of Duty impression of sorts, and lets you battle it out in objective-based
02:39game modes, create your own loadout, earn unique killstreak rewards, and even humiliate
02:44your opponents at the end of the match.
02:53While not quite as hot as what Call of Duty was doing at the time, Far Cry 3's multiplayer
02:57is still a force to be reckoned with.
02:59Luigi's Mansion 3
03:09The third entry in The Big N's answer to Ghostbusters is one of the best games on the
03:13Switch, based solely off its single-player campaign.
03:16Luckily, they also packed in quality multiplayer modes to tide you over once you roll credits.
03:21In local co-op, you and another player can make your way through the main game, with
03:25one of you taking control of the moist and drippy Gooigi.
03:39Jokes aside, this is a great way to play a relatively easy game with young ones.
03:43There's also Screen Park, which is essentially if Luigi's Mansion and Mario Party had a
03:48baby.
03:49More importantly, however, is the game's ScareScraper mode, where up to 8 players can
03:52get together online to cooperatively suck up some ghosties, solve some puzzles, and
03:57defeat Lulosus once you reach the very top.
04:07Doom Eternal
04:15Doom Eternal came out at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it couldn't have
04:19been a better time for this game.
04:21With the now-legendary memes between Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing New Horizons at
04:25the time aside, the 2020 sequel to id Software's Doom reboot brings all the gory goodness you
04:31know from the campaign, and cranks it all the way up to 11 with its online multiplayer
04:35battle mode.
04:44In this entry, war is waged via an asymmetric battle to the death between one beefed-up
04:49Slayer and two dastardly demons, who team up to try to rip the lone Slayer to shreds.
04:54Now as the Slayer, you win by killing both demons, utilizing a fully decked-out arsenal
04:59of weapons and abilities.
05:00And as the demons, you need only slay the Slayer, and you can do so by summoning minions
05:05and using their own abilities.
05:07Rip and tear, baby, rip and tear.
05:17Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Ah, yes, the wonderfulness of Tony Hawk's
05:25Pro Skater.
05:26The game that sparked a deep love-hate relationship with ska music for many in the early 2000s,
05:31myself included of course.
05:33Skating around in career mode to gather skate letters, secret tapes, and tearing up the
05:37local high school to some of the era's sickest tracks is one of our favorite memories on
05:41the N64, but what really kept us coming back was, of course, the multiplayer.
05:46And while I know the modern remake of the first two games is a significant upgrade and
05:50made me pretend that I'm a Superman even harder, the original is definitely what started
05:55it all.
05:56It was good times.
06:01The game offered three head-to-head ways to compete against your friends, namely graffiti,
06:05trick attack, and horse.
06:06Yes, that's a good one.
06:08Graffiti was especially fun at the time, outscoring my friends and rolling around a contestant
06:12sea of red while they struggled to just keep up.
06:15Running around the controller to see who could dethrone the winner is a couch co-op
06:18nostalgia trip, and I remember staying up into the wee hours of the night trying to
06:23beat my brother in horse.
06:31Bioshock 2 Bioshock 2's multiplayer expansion, the
06:43narrative-focused Fall of Rapture, thrusts players into the late 1950s Rapture Civil
06:48War.
06:49Playing as citizens of the submerged metropolis, two teams of five players battle it out in
06:53up to seven different game modes, from the classic team deathmatch we all know and love,
06:57to capture the sister, which is basically capture the flag, if the flag were an atom-harvesting
07:02little sister.
07:03Yeah, pretty cute.
07:13Decking out your character with the weapons and plasmids you're familiar with from the
07:16main campaign and eliminating other players is oh so satisfying, seriously.
07:22And if you're lucky enough to find a big daddy suit, you'll have the advantage as
07:25you mow down the enemy with the rivet gun.
07:27Those dirty stinking splicers never really stood a chance, did they?
07:36Portal 2 Valve's first-person puzzle platformer stole
07:47the hearts of thousands when it was released in 2011, quickly garnering cult status among
07:52many gamers.
07:53And while the single-player campaign is undoubtedly memorable, the multiplayer co-op takes the
07:58cake, which is in fact not a lie this time around, you know what I mean.
08:01Chronologically set directly after the main campaign ends, you play as robots Atlas and
08:06Peabody as they work together to help the evil AI GLaDOS find and upload data to strewn
08:11about the facility.
08:18The classic physics-based environmental puzzles and companion cube maneuvering are definitely
08:23in full force here, and the cooperative structure of the missions add more depth to the already
08:27cleverly designed puzzles from the single-player experience.
08:37Grand Theft Auto V Divisive at launch, sure, the online companion
08:49to Grand Theft Auto V, simply called Grand Theft Auto Online, has an extremely active
08:54and loyal community even after over a decade.
08:57Thanks to unending support and countless patches and updates, Rockstar's open-world online
09:01sandboxes some of the best multiplayer in video games with their other title, Red Dead
09:06Online, matching its quality but seeing significant player dips over the years.
09:17In this fictionalized doppelganger of California, GTA Online sees up to 30 players cruise around
09:22the city, looking for sex workers to court, I mean, complete jobs with your crew and stack
09:28your cash.
09:31You can also create your own content for other players to use and play online, adding endless
09:35variety and replayability for this already great game.
09:44Ghost of Tsushima Legends What's better than one of PlayStation's
09:55greatest single-player games of all time, getting an amazing multiplayer update?
09:59Doing it free, of course.
10:00Ghost of Tsushima Legends was added a few months after the game's initial launch in
10:042020, and the community has been going strong since.
10:07This huge addition has you and up to three other players working together to finish story
10:12survive a relentless horde moat, and even beat a raid.
10:14Yeah, that's right, a raid.
10:23That final chapter of the tale of Io has complicated gameplay mechanic puzzles that'll have even
10:28a seasoned Destiny player scratching their head.
10:31The best part of Legends is the character customization, as you can fully kit out your
10:35class to your liking and unlock countless cosmetic options.
10:38Now personally, I'm a fan of the Fundashi Assassin myself.
10:48The Last of Us Factions When it first launched on the PS3 in 2013,
11:03Naughty Dog's newest IP forever revolutionized the way video game stories are told.
11:08A truly cinematic experience.
11:10You'd think there was nothing left to do after rolling the credits, but of course,
11:13you'd be dead wrong.
11:15The Last of Us had an amazing online competitive multiplayer mode called Factions, where you
11:19lead a clan of survivors through 12 weeks of rationing and supply gathering.
11:33This is a fun aftermatch mechanic that serves as further motivation to win,
11:37but the main draw is the fantastic gameplay.
11:39Offering three game modes, namely Supply Raid, Survivors, and Interrogation, the sneak-heavy
11:45and crafting-dependent gameplay from the campaign is on full display in multiplayer, similar
11:50to how Uncharted 4's online multiplayer showed off its respective gameplay mechanics.
11:54When you engage with an enemy player in combat, the melee strikes and machete slices feel
11:59even more brutal knowing that there's someone on the receiving end of it.
12:02And yes, nailing someone with a bow and arrow is as satisfying as it sounds.
12:06It's truly one of the best and most unique multiplayer experiences I've ever played,
12:11and it's a shame that the standalone Factions follow-up was cancelled in 2024.
