General Motors will lay off over 1,600 workers at its Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas. The first phase of layoffs starts in November, affecting over 600 full-time workers and terminating 250 temporary employees. A second round, beginning on January 12, will impact 700 full-time employees. GM plans to pause Cadillac XT4 production in Kansas after January 2025, leading to temporary layoffs until the Bolt EV and XT4 production resumes later that year. GM is investing $390 million in the Fairfax plant for new tooling installation.
