00:00Janet Jackson has caused all sorts of
00:04Looks of wonderment from people. What is she talking about?
00:07There are two things that happened with Janet Jackson and Kamala Harris this weekend
00:12the first is what Janet said in an interview about Kamala Harris and her race and then the second thing was an
00:19Apology from Janet Jackson. That was not an apology. Well, it's very sure that bizarre
00:26She didn't know somebody made an apology just wasn't Janet right? Let's put it that way
00:30So first, this is what she said in an interview with The Guardian. This is Friday. Yes came out on Friday
00:36She was asked about Kamala Harris possibly becoming president said well, you know what they supposedly said. She's not black
00:42That's what I heard that she's Indian. Her father's white. That's what I was told
00:46I mean, I haven't watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white. Okay, it's stunning
00:53But there's something here I
00:56Have heard keep saying I have I have heard told this is what Donald Trump said that he saw
01:01Dogs and cats being eaten by Haitian right on a TV report or some right or in social media somewhere back based
01:08It's sort of like Marvin Gaye. Now. I heard it through the grapevine
01:11Yes, and if you heard it for some people that's enough and and then it becomes fact. So she puts this out and
01:19You know, everybody is just stunned and then there's an apology that comes out over the weekend
01:27Yes, and the apology was basically saying that
01:32Janet knows that this was misinformation
01:34She apologizes. She has the utmost respect for Kamala Harris and blah blah blah. So it turns out then we
01:42Made some phone calls and the person who issued the apology on Janet's behalf
01:49we're told no connection to Janet that it was not Janet and
01:54We were told there is no
01:57apology forthcoming
01:59Partly because they said she's she and the family are dealing with Tito's death, right? But
02:07She did an interview with The Guardian right so there was time to do that interview and to be fair
02:12Maybe that interview was actually done before Tito's death
02:15But still if easy to easy to say this is easy to correct
02:20Yeah
02:21This is easy to correct and if you don't
02:23It is so easy to correct and if you don't correct it
02:26You can only the public can only be left to believe that you you believe it you stand by what you said
02:31Yeah, and that you believe it
02:32So this is the problem of the modern age, right and I hate to be too meta about this
02:36But the reality is that there is so much
02:40misinformation available
02:42Everywhere you turn on the internet that if you're susceptible to this kind of misinformation
02:46If you're willing to read something and then repeat it and have others repeat it
02:50you can go down rabbit holes holes of falsehoods that you can't come back from and
02:55We don't know what's in Janet Jackson's mind. She says she was grieving for her brother. We have every reason to suspect
03:00That's probably true
03:01But nevertheless for her to make this statement
03:04Which by the way, that's not echoing what Donald Trump said when he said the Kamala Harris wasn't really black
03:09What Donald Trump said didn't say that he said that she has identified as an Indian until previously now she's identifying black
03:16He's calling her hypocrite, but never did he suggest she's not black or her father wasn't black with Janet Jackson is here
03:21This is just the wormhole of Twitter verse
03:24Disinformation that is infecting everything
03:26Guys I'm Jamila. I'm from Reno, Nevada and listen. Yes, there is misinformation here. But also this is a really toxic
03:34Conversation within like the black community like oh her father has a little white in them or her father is a little half-black
03:41So that doesn't make them all the way black or that doesn't make them all the way white
03:45I think that during this time also spreading that type of this misinformation is really toxic
03:50So I think not only is Janet Jackson purposely not apologizing
03:56I think she kind of meant what she said, but yeah
03:58Just this conversation in the black community is a little toxic anyway
04:02It also by the way, her answer is not what was asked
04:06Not I had nothing to do with what was asked and it's really
04:11Pissed off some people I will tell you and we got to move on
04:13But I will tell you that based on a couple of phone calls this weekend
04:19She knows that this is out there and they've spent enough time
04:25Dealing with the fake apology that it would have been easy for her to issue one if she wanted to she didn't want to at
04:32Least not now
