00:00Serve Serving others does not come naturally to
00:04me.
00:05I'm a self-centered person.
00:08I like it my way.
00:10It's not something I'm proud of, but unfortunately it's true.
00:14I'm not the only one.
00:16All of us can be a bit self-centered.
00:19By nature, we are selfish people.
00:22Just think about it, you don't have to teach a child to be selfish.
00:27According to Jesus, life is not all about us, and yet everything in our culture tries
00:32to tell us to have it our way.
00:35One of the quickest ways to forget about God is to be consumed with self.
00:40Jesus had pretty direct words for those who wanted to follow him.
00:44He said, Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and
00:49follow me.
00:51Matthew 16 verse 24.
00:54God wants us to have it his way.
00:56When he's not talking about extra meat, hold the lettuce.
01:01Speaking of food, Jesus made a statement that should make us pause before we order our next
01:06burger.
01:07My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
01:12John 4 verse 34.
01:15Imagine being able to say, My food is to serve God.
01:20My food is to please him.
01:22My food is to complete the assignment God sent me to do.
01:26My food is to do the will of my father and to finish his work.
01:30That's a different kind of nourishment.
01:33That's living with divine direction.
01:36When all of culture says, Fill yourself, God tells us to fill others.
01:42When the people around us say, Get all you can.
01:46It's all about you.
01:48God wants us to contribute rather than to consume.
01:51When all of culture says, Fill yourself, God tells us to fill others.
01:57God didn't create us to be takers.
02:00He created us to be givers.
02:02Rather than focusing on our desires, we are called to focus on the needs of others.
02:08Instead of cutting to the front of the line, we are called to wait at the end.
02:13God created us to serve.
02:15This kind of living will change your story.
02:18Think about it.
02:19The stories you love reminiscing about are the ones when you helped your neighbor, got
02:23involved at church, or gave something away.
02:27That's because we were made to serve just as Jesus did on earth.
02:31The decision to serve may not feel natural for you.
02:35It wasn't always for me.
02:37But I've realized serving isn't something we do.
02:40A servant is who we're called to be.
02:43Because when we serve, we become like Christ.
02:47Pray, God, how are you calling me to serve?
02:50Who are you calling me to serve?
02:53Where are you calling me to serve?
