Cincinnati Bengals Players React to Week 3 LOSS to Commanders
Transcript
00:00How good was it to have T back out there?
00:02It looked like it certainly benefited you a little bit, too.
00:05Yeah, it was great having T out there, man.
00:06It was like old times again, just having fun, you know?
00:10When you look at what you, Joe, and T did,
00:12do you see that as kind of a path forward
00:14for you guys to take place
00:15that you shouldn't have shown you can make today?
00:18That's more the standard, you know, that we do.
00:20It's not really something that we have to show.
00:21It's really the standard that we do.
00:25Jaden Daniels was extremely impressive.
00:27I don't know how closely you can watch his performance,
00:29but one of the more incredible rookie quarterback performances
00:33I think many of us have seen.
00:34What did you think?
00:36He's a great half-inch player, not going to lie.
00:40That was my first time sitting down
00:42and watching him besides the spring game,
00:44so he's a very outstanding player.
00:50Do you think you have confidence
00:52the defense can bounce back with one half of the night?
00:55That's not you, but...
00:57Yeah, 100%, you know, the defense usually
00:58is our leading pack when we're playing football games,
01:03but usually tonight it was the opposite,
01:04so defense still going to be good.
01:07We got their back, they got ours,
01:08so we just got to keep on moving forward.
01:15Jamar, have you ever been 0-3 before?
01:18No, it's the first time.
01:21Is it hard to digest being 0-3,
01:24especially when you had such a wonderful game today?
01:27It's hard losing, I can say that, you know what I'm saying?
01:30I don't want to be 0-1, 0-2, or 0-3, so...
01:35What was...
01:37Did Joe have any kind of message for the offense
01:39following a game like this,
01:40especially with so much more football left to play
01:42for the rest of the season?
01:47He didn't really give us a message.
01:48It's just we got to play football, man.
01:49We got to win those games.
01:50We got to take opportunities that we have in the red zone
01:55and execute them and win.
01:58How does Jamar Chase respond with his back against the wall?
02:04All I can do is come in and be myself every day,
02:07you know what I'm saying, be a leader, give team effort,
02:10and hopefully my guys do the same to me.
02:12Headlines with your comments
02:14about the commander's offense this week.
02:16Do you regret what you said, and can you talk us through
02:20what happened from a defensive standpoint tonight?
02:22No, ma'am, I do not regret it,
02:25and I didn't mean anything malicious out of the comment.
02:27It was just made bigger than what it was.
02:30Yes, I can eat my words, most definitely.
02:33We did take a L today, but as a team,
02:36it was sort of a call that was offered very quick,
02:38quick throws.
02:40He's very athletic in his sneak plays,
02:43and that's how the game went, man.
02:44They stuck to their plan, and, yeah, that's how it went.
02:47Zach indicated that he might talk to you about the comments.
02:50Have y'all had any conversations over the last couple weeks,
02:52even after Xavier's stuff, after this?
02:53Did he talk to you at all?
02:55Yeah, he only just said it was like,
02:57you know, how, like, where interviews go,
02:59just don't speak on the other team and stuff like that,
03:01but even with my comments,
03:02I didn't feel like I said anything crazy.
03:04I just took it and ran with it.
03:06So, what happened tonight? Can you put your finger on
03:09what was so tough to stop, how to stop in their offense?
03:12Running downhill,
03:14basically, we just got to tackle better.
03:16It was sort of like the first game,
03:18they were running downhill with Robinson.
03:20On the outside, we can say that we can't have the deep balls.
03:23When I had one, and I believe one of my teammates had one,
03:26but that was the only very explosive
03:29who kept them very, you know, cool during the game, though.
03:32It just seemed like they were methodical
03:33throughout the game in getting the third and short,
03:35fourth and short. Yeah, most definitely, man.
03:37And with the quarterback that they have,
03:38can they spin plays, third and two,
03:40if the back doesn't get it, he'll go get it.
03:42So, yeah, it's a two-way punch back there.
03:44How frustrating is it that you go out and kind of say,
03:46hey, this is what the offense is going to look like,
03:47and then they come out and they score on every single drive?
03:49How frustrating is that for you?
03:51Very frustrating.
03:52We went on long drives the whole game.
03:55Like he said, going third and two.
03:57We wanted to get them in third and long
03:58so they could pass the ball to the outside,
04:00make him use his arm.
04:02It didn't turn out that way.
04:03There were a lot of third and shorts,
04:04fourth and shorts, very manageable.
04:06So, you know, they got through the game.
04:09Orlando, I guess my first question for you
04:11is obviously we all saw Trent Brown
04:14come out with a knee brace on.
04:16What were your words to him?
04:18Obviously, that's super disappointing
04:19for the entire O-line.
04:21Yeah, man, you know, he's such a big part of us, man,
04:23just a veteran, been a leader since he's gotten here
04:27and been given a ton of insight.
04:30So it's sad to see him go down, man.
04:31I really don't know the extent of his injury,
04:33when he'll be back, if he'll be back,
04:36but hopefully he heals up soon and will.
04:39What were you, your words to Amarius Mims?
04:41He made his first start tonight.
04:44And I felt like the offense
04:45looked really good out there today.
04:46It seemed like you guys were clicking.
04:49What did you think of the offensive line's performance
04:51overall, in your opinion?
04:52Yeah, I feel like we played well.
04:54That's a really, really good front seven.
04:55That's the heart of their team.
04:57Man, I feel like we did a really good job overall.
04:59I'll have to be able to watch the film
05:00to tell you the mistakes, but man, I mean,
05:03having that many yards offensively,
05:05scoring that many points, it's always a good sign.
05:08Obviously after a loss,
05:09a lot of people have a lot of opinions.
05:12How do you guys block out that noise
05:14and keep the focus forward?
05:16Just doing our job every single day,
05:18continuing to stay committed to our team,
05:21ourselves, our plan, and look no further than that.
05:25I think in football, it's a lot of ups and downs
05:28in emotional sport.
05:29It comes with wins and losses, obviously.
05:31And so just continue to understand, man,
05:33that we gotta do a better job straining to finish
05:36and coming out with wins in these type of games.
05:39Did you guys feel like you were personally
05:41in a really good flow as far as this entire game goes?
05:45Yeah, I feel like we were in a pretty good flow.
05:48I feel like kinda once we got going with Jamar,
05:51I mean, good things start happening.
05:52Obviously the first drive with that touchdown there,
05:54I mean, it's so important and such a huge play for us.
05:58Have you ever been 0-3 before in your NFL career?
06:01I have not.
06:02No, I don't, yeah, I don't think I have.
06:04It might be the first time for me.
06:06Have you even, obviously you haven't had much time
06:08to digest it, but like even saying that out loud,
06:10does that feel strange?
06:12Yeah, yeah, it definitely feels strange,
06:13but as I said, man, it's part of the sport.
06:15You know, it's ups and downs in this,
06:17and, you know, you take your wins and losses,
06:20and it is what it is.
06:22What do you say to your guys to pull yourselves
06:24out of this, not a funk,
06:25but and pull yourselves into the next week
06:27because it's a short week and you're at Carolina.
06:29Yeah, no, I mean, it's so important
06:31to come out of this game 1-3.
06:33I know it's just crazy to say, but coming out 1-3
06:35and just continuing to press forward, move forward,
06:37being in the moment every single day
06:39and continuing to grind and strain
06:41when we get in these close games.
06:42Jermaine, there will be a lot of people
06:44that have opinions about how the defense played tonight,
06:47but in your opinion, what were you guys seeing out there?
06:50What seemed to be going wrong
06:52as far as allowing Jalen Daniels to score on you?
06:56Just a mobile quarterback.
06:57He's just standing in place with his legs,
06:58and then, like, he controlled the game,
07:02like, you know, he managed the game well.
07:03He did electric with his feet,
07:06and then he just made explosive plays when he needed to.
07:10As a leader of the defense, how difficult is it
07:11to get newer guys in line and ready to go
07:15in a Louie Annarumo-style defense
07:17when you have two of your starting defensive linemen out?
07:20I mean, we just got to be the next man up, you know.
07:22We got to just play sound football, you know.
07:24We got to make plays in critical situations.
07:26I didn't make the play in a critical situation,
07:28you know, go back to the fourth down.
07:30I didn't contain him, and he be able to be mobile,
07:33get out the pocket, and give a straight
07:36to gain the first down, so I blame me.
07:38I don't think it's on the D-line.
07:40It's on me.
07:41Well, I was thinking more of as a whole,
07:44your defense as a whole, how difficult is it
07:45to just kind of, like, get it together and gel
07:47when you have two key guys missing?
07:49I mean, you just got to just keep on battling.
07:50You know, these guys, they've been putting in the work
07:52just like everybody else.
07:54We just got to keep on working, keep on getting better.
07:56What did Louie Annarumo say to the defense
07:58as a whole after the game?
07:59What did Zach Taylor say?
08:00What were the words of encouragement, if any?
08:03I mean, we got to come together, be more tight.
08:05You know, we 0-3, but we got to find a way to get it first W.
08:08You know, we got to keep on building
08:09and keep on stacking A's.
08:10We got to have a great week of practice,
08:12prep, and get ready to get a win.
08:14Is there something where you're practicing really hard,
08:17practicing really well,
08:19but then it's not translating to the field?
08:20Like, is there something, like, a disconnect there?
08:23No, it's not a disconnect, you know.
08:24We just got to find a way to win.
08:25You know, don't get hard.
08:28Don't dwell on it.
08:30You know, we got to keep on getting better
08:31and then stacking A's, you know.
08:32It's all coming for us, man.
08:34We just got to keep on getting better,
08:35keep on stacking A's.
08:36It's all going our favor, you know.
08:37Don't get down because it's 0-3 start, you know.
08:39But we just got to find a way to get our first win.
08:42Have you ever been 0-3 before?
08:44Yes.
08:46When I first got here.
08:49I totally forgot you were part of that team.
08:52I'm sorry, J.
08:53My next question I would say is,
08:56you've obviously been in this position before
08:57when you've had your back against the wall.
08:59How do you think this team will respond
09:01in week four in Carolina?
09:02I mean, we'll respond very well.
09:04You know, we lost every game being close.
09:07You know, we just got to find a way to make a play.
09:09At the end of the game, I say that, you know.
09:12If I made that play in the fourth down,
09:14I know that Joey will go down there and score.
09:16But it's on me, you know.
09:18I got to find a way to make critical plays
09:20like I usually make.
09:21I got to find a way.
09:23Last question for you, is there anything
09:25that you can take from that first year
09:26that can kind of fuel you for the current situation?
09:29I mean, it's a different team, different mindset,
09:31different leaders on this team,
09:32different guys that love the game, you know.
09:34So I don't think we'll get down.
09:36We'll get in the right direction.
09:37We'll get back playing Bengals style of football.
